We should have a pool on the M8 release date. Prize to be debated.
I'd be in for Nov. 8.

Are you counting the release date as the day that Leica ships it? If so, I'll take Novmber 9th, and therefore can box you in on the late side.
If you are counting the release as the day the first jubilant poster says, "I Bought One Today!", I will say November 20th.

Is there an 'M8 Recall / Firmware Upgrade Pool' thread around here?
Is there a 'First M8 Sold on eBay Pool'?

I phoned round a couple of dealers and Leica UK and the collective view is that they Just Don't Know. They also give the distinct impression they are bored with bring asked.
Leica's position is still "end of November" but that is pretty undefined and shipping them out of Solms on November 30 doesn't put them in the shops on 1 December. It will be a long time before they start making an M8 which isn't pre-sold. In the UK, the M8 is "said" to back-ordered to April or May next year.
In the car world, it's commonplace for cars with long lead times to be available immediately if you are prepared to pay a premium. Rolex make a watch - the Daytona - which is back-ordered for 5 years (last time I checked) but you can get one today for a premium of about 70%.

Does it mean that if I can't get the M8 at the first batch, I'd have only two options:
1. Wait until mid 2007
2. Pay more than the list price and get it the day after
?
Well, how much more exactly ?... :D

Damm. Looks like I should have pre ordered an M8 afterall instead of waiting for others to identify the problems.
That way I could have sold for a premium of £2K on the first day and repurchased mid 2007. £3K - £2K = an M8 for £1K. Cheaper than my R-D1;)

Very symbolic date for Germans:
- proclamation of the Weimar Republic in 1918
- Hitler's first coup d'êtat attempt in 1923
- Reichskristallnacht in 1938
- fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 (that was an amazing day!)
- shipment of the Leica M8 in 2007^H6

There actually was an auction item on ePrey for an M8 last week. You can only find "It" on ePrey, no matter what dimension of this Universe ;)
i have it on pretty good authority that it will be november 14th...
...but they didn't say which year,

I think I win the release pool, at least in US.
Nov. 3 is the date that US Leica dealers receive and sell their first allocations of M8 to the public.
No, I am not looking for a free M8 as a prize but a privilage to be 5 grand poorer one on Nov.3!
