It's nice to see the first photos rolling in. I took a few frames on Delta 100, Ultra 100, and 6x6 Portra 400. There's also some night stuff on a Neopan 400. I have only had time to develop the Delta 100, there's one shot I like but I cannot post right now as I am away from base. Hopefully the colour films will give me another photo to speak off. We 'll see.
Hi folks,
I don't know if anyone had a similar experience but I felt a bit odd  going out and "have to shoot". Usually I shoot just for fun and I was quite excited about this project but the day before I really wasn't up to it. Yesterday I went to NYC shot just 2 films which I dropped off for development this morning. So I will have an idea about the results earliest by Saturday maybe Monday. A couple might turn our ok...hopefully. I will post next week. Btw the weather was quite chilly but lots of sunshine :), sorry for the many of us having to deal with worse conditions.
Well, I shot about a roll and a half, and also some from my digi p&s. Since I'm away from home for a couple of weeks, I won't be developing my film until I get back. Hopefully there'll be something worthy.
My shots are now on my blog.

It has really been a problem to catch up with the weather. Snow, rain and sunshine, changing every 10 minutes. So I have been lucky to get up early and start with my "Abandoned House" project that has been in my mind for the last 2 weeks before I had to go to work. But no time to develop the rolls before weekend.
I had the same problem, icebear. I felt better about shooting once I was able to get the chores and such done. The light was a little flat by the time I started shooting but hopefully I got one or two worth looking at. Even though I shot digital, I haven't reviewed them yet; I'd like to get a little more distance from the day so that I can be more objective about which ones are "good".
I got some bad news. I shot exclusively with my Zorki because of the bad weather and because it was the smallest camera to carry around with me at work. I mentioned in my previous post that the shutter sounded different and now I know why. The second shutter curtain doesn't close all the way sometimes. I shot 5 or 6 great rolls with this recently acquired camera prior to the Equinox but Murphy's Law struck. 3/4 of my shots have a light leak like the one in the attached photo of some of my adult students.:(

That's a shame. Bad luck.
I had slightly better luck. I shot just over half a roll on my way home from work. The least bad of them are here:

Fernando: Damn, that hurts...I've been burned once or twice by relying on a "new" acquisition for an important shot, so I do know from this.

Weather was really erratic that day!!!
From sunshine to icy-snow...
...so here they are (http://www.flickr.com/photos/shipak/sets/72157600016850377/)... (i still have one roll to develop)

Ian: Too bad the 35 RC doesn't have a sharp lens ... NOT!!! Man, those cut my eyeballs! Anyone wondering about the RC, fuh-gid-uhboudit!
Hi, this is mine contribution (http://www.flickr.com/photos/patak_bubi/sets/72157600016873411/)!
Bye and good night!
I have good news and bad news...
The bad news is that I had completely forgot that I had signed up to participate
The good news is that last night, after the sun went down, I noticed that the lights shining on our Sakura tree outside my office window were illuminating the blossoms quite nicely. I stepped outside and took about 10 images. It looks like a couple of them will work.

Looks good so far. I wasnt able to develop my film yet as my wife was ill today and we had to go to the hospital. All is ok now though and she is sleeping. Pics to come.
I was driving home from Disney World all day yesterday, and I must think hard to recall if I took any photos. I took four rolls of film the previous two days. Do they count? I am a little upset but not that much.

Ash,
Great pix, my favorite is the one with 4 people silhoutted against the sky on a hill.

Here is my best digital (20D) shot I got between thunderstorms. I'll have to get my film processed this weekend and see how those turned out.
So where are we supposed to park our best three photos once we decide?
Great stuff from the Croatian pair, Nikola and Daria.
I took a variety of shots during the day, but none of them were at all representative of the day until I began to drive home in the rain which lingered over Austin as, it seems, it did so many other places.
I've put the best four photos from the drive home (M8 + 75/2 Summicron) on flickr; you can see all four by clicking the picture. The first three (or maybe just the first two) are probably the ones I'll choose. These "look like the day looked" to me.

:-)
It's rapidly become my favourite carry around camera. Great lens, small, damned cute, decent VF. I have an SP too, but that's close to M size and hasn't got used as much yet.

I had to go in to work as well but got off the train a few stops early and walked the rest of the way through the centre of London. Did the reverse on the way home. Took a few photos and am happy with two:
Set on flickr here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ballfresno/sets/72157600016812828/detail)
Didn't use a rangefinder unfortunately but fell back on my Minolta 5D dSLR.
My SO and I spent the day on the South coast of the UK (Dorset). Weather was great and I took about 110 shots with the M8. You can see some of them at http://oldgoat.zenfolio.com/p781906170/
PS
How do you post a link with a name?
Just put some pix from the equinox shoot on flickr if anyone would like to view them.

This is the Carillon in Canberra. The carillon was a gift from the British government to the people of Australia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the National Capital, Canberra.
Such drama! :) This project seems like it was a real test for some. Good. :)
Well, Amsterdam wasn't too bad. I shot from midnight to about 1am. Then slept a while and got up before 6am to do a bit more shooting from the window.
By 9am I went out and walked and shot from my home to the city centre. 3 hrs in total. Had lunch with my wife, and walked a bit more around the harbour. Great vistas with dark brooding clouds. Went back into the city again and dropped by Foto Nivo (got me a roll of Tri-X there at Eu 4.95 and a 2-roll Paterson dev tank). From there went to my parents' house to collect my daughter. Back home I shot a bit more from the window. I called it a day by 8pm when I went to bed. :p
I don't have any photos yet! I shot all day with my Leica M2 and roll upon roll of B&W Lucky SHD100! Not a single digital shot (except for the shots I took for my personal Clouds and skies project). I shot with one of my 6x9 folders as well, also SHD100 in 120 format.
Y'day had to work. Today had to take my girl to the physician. Now I'm home and I think I'm gonna dev some film. :)
Good to hear that you're still shooting some film with your M2, Remy! I developed my single roll of APX100 last night and it looks good. I'll do some scanning on the weekend.

Its nice to see some colour for a change and also quite refreshing to see a range of cameras being used, not just RFs - celebrating the images, not the device.

So somebody has to be at the bottom of the barrel. Let me volunteer my quick shots. I didn't get any real *walkabout time* so mine would fall more into the "a day in the life" category. But, as mentioned before, it put some added fun into the day; big thanks to those who came up with the idea and all participants!

Gid - thanks for your comment! From your collection I see you also had some good weather and sunshine! You have compiled a great set that gives a real sense of the day's outing you enjoyed. Excellent!
Last night I scanned the roll of 120 film I shot on D-day. The negs look pretty good but the scans look like sh*t. I scanned them on a flatbed scanner (Canon Lide20) and the detail I can see in the negs just isn't there in the scans.
What to do? How can I do justice to the negs? I'm loath to have them printed and then scan the prints. I'm shooting cheap but good 120 film and dev them myself to reduce costs, right? So, any suggestions?
Well, now that all you talented guys have posted, here is my first set, second roll to be processed this weekend.
These are from my stroll around downtown Hartford, CT. I particularly like the third one, waving good bye to winter on the Equinox.

I really enjoyed posting those pictures this morning. I can't say that I paid great attention to this project as the months went on. I kept in touch, you all made it just as simple as it was, go out and shoot, your own style, your own theme and post them here. Not a lot of attention was needed. I was pretty satisfying seeing my work "pinned up" on the wall.
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad to see my stuff with all of yours.

Well, here are a couple of my very humble contributions from the first day of spring. I took two of my kids skiing at Killington, VT that day. They can be seen (barely) snowboarding down the mountain in the photo taken under the idle chairlift. The other photo is of workers preparing the hill for the U.S. Freestyle Championships, which began the next day. Both taken on expired Kodak Supra 100.
... not so many signs of spring here in Sapporo, it was a rainy day. But I managed to go out and took some photos during a ride on a ferry wheel. It is on top of a shopping center in the middle of the town and - if the weather is fine  - one can have a great view over Sapporo. Since it was a somehow "special" shooting day, I decided to try some different subject ... The scans are not that good and I only had Tmax3200 left but somehow managed to develop myself ... Rather than bouncing around all over the internet checking out everyones images, would it not be possible to set up an Equinox gallery on this forum? That way everything is all in one spot and easier to view.

Here is my contribution. I am not very happy with the scans - my scanner failed totally to deal with the early morning light :bang:
Anyway, these two are the best of the roll - taken on my way to work (on foot for a change!) at around 06:40am.
I have put some images from the 21st here (http://www.formal.ie/equinox/index.html).
Comments welcome.
David
Two of my shots. There are more to come, but the rolls still need be developed.

Chris: I'm impressed you got the bridge when empty! What time was that?
David: some lovely character shots but I really love the kegs!
I'm still scanning. :) My work is taking up too much time these days, as is my family. I scanned 4 rolls 135 film, and 1 of 120 film. The 120 film was on my flatbed scanner but I'm not too happy with the results. I still have one or two rolls to scan, and a bunch of digital shots to process.
Nice shots so far, folks!
I'm not showing anyone the crap I managed to get onto B&W. But I'm still hopeful about the Kodachrome I shot. Ought to be back from the lab this week.
Rob
Well, nuts. The Kodachromes aren't any better. This is frustrating. Can't even blame the gear--it is totally my poor skills/talent.:bang:

Now that I have seen all my photos from the day, I have decided to submit one B&W and one colour photo. Below is the B&W (I might change the contrast a bit before I send it out though). But the colour one is giving me serious problems in scanning as it is a long exposure on a Tungsten balanced slide film. Hopefully I will get it sorted.
I've processed the b&w from my Equinox shoot, and everything looked copacetic ... scans to follows.
BUT ... Friday when I loaded some TX into the OM, I went to set the ASA dial and it was already at 250. Great! A few hours later I thought ... hmmm, I was last shooting Kodachrome 64 in this camera!!! Gaack! Did I screw up? The only way to tell is when the K64 comes back. Two rolls went through the OM, one through a Mamiya 1000 DTL. ... and I don't know which are which. So I can't really ask Dwayne's to push process them. Sigh ... I'll just take my chances and trust that I changed the ASA setting to 250 sometime AFTER I unloaded the K64. But I'm prepared for the worst.

Here are a few of mine:
I'm liking, Frank, I'm liking.
And I've done some final scans of a few of mine, which I have to touch up a bit, and are modest in scope. But out they'll come, in a day or so.

FrankS: I like all three, you must be very pleased.
I had a busy day and managed to snap a couple of shots during my lunch. Sorry I only knew about the project at the last minute and couldn't take time off to shoot.
Here's the best of the two.

Is tomorrow the deadline for submitting photos? Most of my shots turned out bad because of a light leak but there are a few that I can save. I haven't had time to scan all the negatives yet and I was hoping that I could do this over the Easter holidays.
Where and how do we submit again?

i didn't realize there was a deadline. the online deadline should probably be if anything were to actually happen with this (a show, book, etc).
Is tomorrow the deadline for submitting photos? ....
Oh?
diggin the thread I only found - at page 15 (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29549&page=15) - the 1st of july as a deadline ...
Nico
btw, Nando ... sorry for the light leaks:( N.
Ok, sorry for the confusion. For some reason, I thought we had two weeks to submitting photos. Thanks for clearing this up Nico.
Submission Guidelines again.
Just for the record: UPDATE THREE HOURS TO GO! (In Japan, that is)
WHAT: a "Shoot all day" event
WHEN: Wednesday, March 21, 2007, a.k.a. "Autumn" (or "Spring" depending where you are) Equinox
WHERE: anywhere on this planet
WHO: anyone who is able and willing to spend some time (the more the better) on March 21, 2007, to shoot pictures for this worldwide event
WHAT CAMERA / SUBJECTS / TECHNIQUE: this is all up to you. Anything goes (well I mean, as long as it is legal, it will be alright ;-)
HOW and/or WHAT to shoot: doesn't matter, but analog shooters please keep in mind to keep a record of the exact time(s) of your shot(s).
WHAT DO I DO NOW: just post to this thread, telling us "you're in" - or something like that
WHAT DO I DO AFTER THAT: just wait for the day to come (3/21, 2007) then shoot as many pictures as you can that day, and submit your best ones (you'll be your own judge here). In the meantime, watch this thread from time to time, to learn about the details and/or to participate in the preparations phase
HOW MANY PICTURES PER SUBSCRIBER?
24 or less
WHAT SIZE / QUALITY?
Good enough for a 30x40cm / 12x16'' quality print
WHY: to be shown in galleries in as many places as possible, to be published in a photo book, to be part of a worldwide event and to benefit charity (on which we will decide later on, in a poll)
HOW DO I SEND MY PICTURES IN?
Digitally. JPEG will do. TIFF wil do. Try to keep the quality up to gallery standards, so please use as little compression as possible.
Upload them in one or more ZIP batch(es) to a server through FTP and send us (both RML and doitashimash1te) the URL, or send the batch(es) to our gmail address, whatever suits you best. Details will follow!
SO I WON'T NEED TO SEND IN PRINT(S)?
No.
IS THERE A DEADLINE?
Yes. As for now, July 1st. If this changes, it will be to a later date, not sooner.
IMPORTANT:
Submitted photos should be renamed before sending them in. Please insert your subscriber number (see below), followed by an underscore (_) BEFORE the original filename, like this:
Your filename: DSC01070.JPG
Name of the submitted image: 009_DSC01070.JPG
(This would be one of Trius's images)
Further details on how to send in your images will follow.

Hi,
here three of the shots I took for the Equinox day ... Hope you like it... I'll post some more tomorrow ...
Ciao
Nico
Deadline is indeed July 1.
I created a place for the photos:
http://equinoxproject.blogspot.com .
I can post each participants' submissions there and add a link to the posting in the side bar. That way everyone's photos are easily found. I haven't been able to get any gallery (getting one for the travelling FED-2 isn't working either) from Stephen Gandy so I'm taking this business outside. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Send me an email to have your photos on the Equinox Project photo blog. If you want, write a long or short story about your aims, views, modus operandus (sp?), etc to go with the posting. I'll post it 1:1, no editing, no spelling checking, no alterations. :)

What amazes me is how difficult some people found this project. :) But when I'm looking at these (as y'all say yourselves) poor results, I'm thinking y'all are a bit harsh on yourselves. Perhaps it's the notion that you had to shoot and were not shooting on your own terms that makes you feel the results aren't up to par.
Anyway, I am more than pleased to see so many good and interesting results.
Please, send/email your favourite results to me so I can collect them on http://equinoxproject.blogspot.com .

Is there a recommended pixel size for the images?
Is there a recommended pixel size for the images?
Nope.
What I do personally is resize my images to 600x900. They end up smaller on the blog but these link to the larger file. I found that 600x900 fits in most people's browser windows (except, of course, in portrait). That way people see the photo in one go, without having to scroll around.
BTW, I recommend everyone to mark their photos. Either sign on the print before scanning, or put a watermark on the digital file.
BTW, I uploaded maddoc's photos to the _Equinox Project blog_ (http://equinoxproject.blogspot.com/). :)
Very nice work RML. Thanks a lot.
I finally get to see my first results today. 2 rolls of color 35mm to pick up & 3 rolls of 120 (2 b&w & 1 color slide) to look over & decide what to scan.
You can put me in the camp of people who thoroughly enjoyed participating. Everyday comes with me wanting to take pictures & so many pass with none taken. The project gave me a bit of a sense of purpose & I like to think I responded to this sense well enough.
Let's hope my pictures do my feelings justice!
I just had a thought.... Are you ready for it?
How about a "Shoot all day on Summer Solstice" day?! :p
I'm thinking, we now have some experience and the next time we're all better prepared, better motivated, better aware of the pitfalls.
So, how about? Shall I start a new thread? :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I didn't manage to shoot at all on equinox... Well, actually yes I did take about 300-400 frames during that day, but I have no rights to give those photos to anyone...copyright belongs to my employer. And I forgot my own camera at home that day... :P
Another serie of three ...

In the first one "I Fiori di Kully" the photo shown on my monitor has been shot by Rff fellow Kully (you can see it in his gallery (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=5253&sl=k)) who allowed me to post and use the photo ...of his photo ...

Then the Exhibit/Book could be called "Solstice".
And it would give us another couple days to prepare for shooting this year.
Sounds like a good idea to me.

doitashimash1te: Thank you for looking at the movie and for commenting.
The music is 'Beanfields' by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It's quite popular for tv ads, and for background music generally.
Cool, Jon! I love what you did. You turned something that could be utterly boring when printed and hung on a wall into something that is actually fun to look at. :) Reminds a bit of the movie Groundhog Day.

I finally have a few to post from my Equinox shoot.

lff: I like the last one especially. The pink and yellow tiles.
Thanks a lot Jon. That's been a special little spot here in my town the past few months. There used to be a downtown motel there. When they tore it down, they left the rear wall of the entire structure as a retaining wall. Consequently, the rear wall was where the bathtubs were located, so what you see is a retaining wall with bathing accoutrements.
I'm a little partial to the b&w of my fiancee in the first post- even though I should have gotten more light on her face. Hand-held & wide open with my now-defunct GSN.
Good to see these photos slowly coming in!
Keep it coming. I know there must be quite a few more out there!

yeah...business and/or laziness seem to prevail for me. i still need to buy a scanner too! and all before july 1st ;)
Here are two of mine. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, most of my photos were ruined due to a light leak. I only had the Zorki with me that day.

FINALLY got a scanner and started the long process of scanning in all my stuff (in general). here are 3 from the equinox shoot though. i've only scanned some slides of yet. color and b&w film comgin soon. also...these are fast scans that get the basic idea across (but not the utmost in quality). larger versions are linked to in my flickr gallery.

thanks! i shot them w/ the uc-hexanon 35mm and velvia. i found it's a great combo for that rich, saturated look.
I have just moved house and developed the last of the films (the mf rolls). I'm very relieved to read that the due-date is still a few weeks away. Foolishly this was the first time I have used Delta-400 in 120, so I hope they turn out as expected.
The odd thing will be trying to work out what to do with the digital scans to produce a 12x16 equivalent. (I know, I know - search here and Google for tips. . .)
The Solstice shoot will be just after I am made redundant, sighhhhh. Hopefully I will be busy with job interviews so won't put my name down yet.
Well done to all the Equinox contributors so far - all more organised than me at the moment (better pics too).
Can someone do an update post that can tell us when the final images are due, what to do with them etc? I seem to recall something about maybe the end of this month? Is that still the goal? Should we just link to out flickr accounts? I know this has all been discussed but it seems to be just a bit here a bit there and to be honest I don't have the time to read through 33 pages of posts to find the few that addressed all of this!
Thanx! It would be a great help to me and probably to others as well I bet!
OK.
I'm sorry if it has been rather quiet on the Equinox front. Normal life has a bit of a hold on me the last months. You know how it is. Sometimes you can't find things to do with your time, and then sometimes you can't find time to do your things.
I'm looking into a few options of placing the photos on the equinox blog. Keep heart. I'll get back to this subject before the end of the month in a more public way. In the meantime, keep your photos ready!

Not sure what I'm supposed to do with the full sized images, but reduced versions are in my gallery.
Posting the photos in your gallery, Flickr, blog or other place is ALWAYS a good idea!
I've been talking here and there about a possible exhibition but I can't find a place nor a person interested enough to go along with it. A book might be a better approach, though then someone will have to investigate online printers (Lulu.com has quality issues, as we know from the last RFF book), someone will have to invest time in creating the book, and someone will have to organise things in general. I'm strapped for time as it is, so I can lend a hand but can't do it all just by myself. For now I'm giving up on the exhibition and the book, but things can change in the future.
However, there is the Equinox Project blog ( http://equinoxproject.blogspot.com ).
So, for all participants: send your selected photos (longest side max 900px) to shardsofphotography at gmail dot com.
Please use the subject line "Equinox Project: <your RFF name>" so I can keep things a bit organised. :)
If you want, and I would really appreciate it, you can also write a short piece on your experiences, techniques, etc on that day. No limit on the length but if you plan to write a small novella, let me know beforehand. :)
Add titles to your photos if you want, as well as camera/ film/ etc info. These aren't necessary; you can leave them out.
So, let the deluge commence!
