I've bought my first leica lens, a 90/4 elmar ltm, but it has a problem.
If i put the lens at infinity, the rangefinder coincides with an object approximately 1.5 meters away. When i put the lens at 1 meter, the rangefinder patch coincides with an object at 50 cm distance. When I use my fed 50/3.5 lens on my fed-2, I can focus perfectly.

The lens worked perfectly on the zorki 1c and bessa r of the previous owner.

Has anyone had this problem before, or know what the cause might be? Or am I something missing here?

Once I sold a elmar 90 to one person who planed to use it on his Fed 5. THe elmar focus correctly on my leica and Bessa, but can't work with his Fed 5 (all the pic taken were not in focus). I can't remember too much details. But he was pretty sure his Fed works well with a J8.

I think I've found the cause of my problem: http://www.ragarecords.com/photo/incompatibility_leitz_fsu.html So I would only be able to use it on my fed-2 if I make the cam rings broader, but thats to difficult for me.

So, does anyone want to trade a portrait lens (jupiter-9, steinheil culminar85mm,...) or a fast 50mm (jupiter-3, jupiter-8, ...) against my leica 90/4 elmar? You must know that this lens worked on the bessa r and zorki 1c from the previous owner.

Have you considered just bending the RF lever of the FED a bit? (It's something you often need to do to get J-12s to mount - I bent mine, and it's still ok with other lenses)

So I can just bend the lever a mm upward, without damaging it? That would be a good solution :)

I think, it sounds like you just need to adjust the RF so that it works with your elmar. You'll have a dedicated Elmar-FED-2 :) did you get some kind of a ext. VF for it?

That might be possible, but I don't want a dedicated elmar-fed-2. I still want my fed-2 to be able to use my fed 50/3.5 lens and if possible both lenses.

I haven't bought a viewfinder yet, but I'm looking for one that fits my fed-2 with low shoe.

I don't see why not - my slightly bent one still works fine with all my lenses

Thanx Alan for the fabulous tip, now both my lenses work.
