I am planning to buy a collapsible hood for my 40mm Rokkor.

I've found two at B&H:

I haven't used a collapsible hood before. Can I fit a cap on the hood's inner metal ring when it is collapsed? I would like to put the camera in my coat pocket with the hood on, but I want to put a cap to protect the front element of the lens.

Thx

Looks like the difference is $15.

I bought one from them, but I can't remember which brand, I think it was the general one. IT worked OK. I stopped using it and went back to the hard short one that came with the lens. I carry mine in my pocket, and the rubbery collapsible one hung up too much.

They are designed to 50mm, but I never saw any vingenting.

Usually yes, they're threaded inside so you can insert a snap cap (usually the same diameter, so you don't have to buy another cap).
I've found just in wideangle (rubber) hoods a narrower thread, so my Rokkor 24mm uses a 52mm cap when hooded (instead of 52).

Thanks. I will probably buy one to see if the 40.5mm cap will fit on it.

www.fedka.com was offering some 40.5 mm hoods and caps. easy guy to deal with. I found a Minolta soft plastic cap that pushes into those hoods but have no idea what it goes to.
