Raid and I are using 50mm lens and XP-2 Film for our 50mm project. For this series I shot a Canon P with a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens.

I like the football game shots Wayne. At what speed did you rate the XP2?

I rate XP-2 at 200 ISO. This is based on some lame brick wall tests in the past that I did with a grey card, black card and a white card taped to a brick wall and shot at ISO's that ranged from 25 to 1600.
All if these shots were f1.8 and 1/30 second.

Very nice, Wayne. I also regularly rate the XP2 Super at ISO 200.
You beat me to the game as we had plenty of rain today forphotography, and I was too busy on Sunday to take any photos. If it does not rain tomorrow, I will have a roll done.

I have completed one roll of XP2 Super, and I will have posted here by tomorrow. I had taken five rolls of B&W film very recently, but the lab overdeveloped the film and it looks not so great at all. In order to keep this thread moving, I will post a few shots. They are taken with Agfa 400 film. I post them for composition and not for overal quality due to the over developing done.

I have just received back two scanned rolls of XP2 Super. Here are some photos taken today with the M3 and a Nikkor 50/2.
I am glad that finally I have some shots to show here in this 50-50 thread.
Two shots are of my daugher on our front porch and the beach photo was taken today at Pensacola Beach.

Here are three more photos from today's shoot with the M3 and the Nikkor 50/2.
These three shots are of Dana, taken this afternoon in the front porch. I talk to her and let her be herself as I take photos.
While I mostly use the M3 with the Summicron 50mm lens, I decided today to use instead the Nikkor 50/2 (Sonnar design). It is a great lens for portraits.
I hope that you like some of the shots.

Here are some photos from the second roll of XP2 Super film. I took most of these photos on Friday outside a well-known fish market in Pensacola, called
Joe Patti's.
The six photos were taken with the first version rigid Summicron 50mm/2.

My wife gave me 25 minutes to take these photos since it was so hot that day. I know that this 50-50 thread is not about equipment but about using 50mm in photography. Still, I played around with six different 50mm lenses at this location shoot so that we all can see any differences if they are present.
My second lens used at this location was the Canon 50mm/1.8.
Here are the rest of the shots taken with the Canon 50/1.8.
Next, I shot about six frames with another 50mm lens. This time, it was a very old Zeiss Sonnar 5cm/2. I added a green filter to enhance contrast.
Mmmm... that 50/1.8 is a delightful lens. I really regret needing to sell mine.

Here are the remining three shots taken with the Zeiss.
This Zeiss lens seems to be one of few made by Zeiss in Leica mount, but with such lenses you never really know who made them. DAG cleaned it up and shimmed it correctly to make it focus correctly. The expert at the Zeiss Historic Society told me that 200 such lenses were made for Sweden before the war. Here is one more shot with this lens.
Then I took six shots with a J-3. Brian Sweeney shimmed it to make it focus properly. It is a 50mm/1.5 lens with a good reputation.
The J-3 is an excellent 50/1.5 lens. I have tested in a controlled test it before against other 50mm lenses, and it did very well then. This "test"is not controlled, but still it could be useful.
On the 37 exposures that I squeezed out of the XP2, I tried to allocate six frames to each of the six 50mm lenses used that day.
The last six frames were taken with a Summarit 50mm/2 lens that I had forgotten for a while. This may be its first use.
Here are the last three images taken with the Summarit.
This photo shoot was very challenging to me.
I had one location in bright sunshine, and I had 30 minutes max to take one roll of film with six lenses. I hope that some of the images came out as good photos.

Thanks Raid and Wayne for the comparo test, I think it shows that all of these lenses are great, and the Summarit and Canon more than held there own here, good work guys...

Yes, I had a black & chrome one that I'd bought from Brian Sweeney. Sweet lens as the examples show. I still have my collapsible Summicron, but I'm going to have to get another Canon 50 to complement it.

I find the Canon 50/1.8 more modern in design than the collapsible Summicron. It is extremely well built, under-priced, and has great optics.

Raid, I concur with your assessment of the J-3; it's a fine performer, and is a great bargain because it is inexpensive. I don't know how this lens in LTM performs w/o calibration a la Sweeney, but when properly adjusted, it is outstanding. Not too surprising though, given that is a Sonnar copy. I used to own a J-3 in Contax/Kiev mount, and it produced pics identical to my Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5.

Mark: One of the reasons why the J-3 was underpriced [for a while] was the poor quality control, resulting in some lenses being sharp and others needing shimming to become sharp. I bought my J-3 directly from Brian. He told me that my J-3 is a better one since it was meant for some military use [or something like that]. There is a symbol on the lens indicating this fact.
Optically, the J-3 is great, but the built quality does not come close to a Japanese or German made lens.
