Hi there,

I read somewhere that you need to follow a specific method when switching between formats on the Xpan in order to stop it from cocking up.... Does anyone know anything more about this...?

Never encountered a problem, I just turn the switch when I want to.

Just push in the center button and turn the outer ring and it transfers easily between pano and normal... if there is some other requirement, I've missed it but the pics haven't.

you_mutz,

As far as im aware you should be able to switch between normal and pano modes at any time... and the camera will wind the film backward/forward slightly to adjust for you....

If its playing up for you, id suggest you get it looked at. Im not sure where your from but there are hasselblad servicers/repairers all around the world. It may just be a very small problem, but could also be a big one with the motor drive or just the dial itself.

On several occasions my Xpan has failed to appropriately reposition the film when I changed formats from pano to stnd. The result of course is two partially overlapping exposures. In this fashion, I lost one of the finest portrait photographs that I have ever taken.

I sent the camera into Hasselblad w/ the offending slide and a detailed letter of explanation. Their response was to shoot a roll of film w/o changing formats, have no problems, and declare there not to be a problem.

Good job Hasselblad.

I guess all I can do is to take 2 exposures every time I KNOW that I have a money shot, b/c you never know what format your next shot will be in (I shoot 90% pano w/ Xpan)

Never had this overlap problem when stayng in the same format......

Sounds like Hasselblad has lost their "give a damn" about the xpan since they don't make it anymore. I wonder if you'd get a better response from Fuji? My Xpan II has been flawless...so far, and I certainly hope I'll not need Hassy's assistance.

I had this problem once--it turned out that I had turned the camera off, and then switched the format. This might be your problem.

After that I made sure that the camera is turned on when I switch the format, and the problem has not returned.

This is an interesting theory. I often put the camera on the tripod, focus, set, etc, then turn it on for actual action. I know I have on several occasions changed format while the camera was off & it repositioned the film when I turned it on.

I will never do that again!

A. They stopped making all their film cameras, no?
B. My problems date back to 2003......
