Finally found some 19mm Leitz filters that I can use on my Elmar 50/3.5 without having to take them off when changing the aperture setting.
Filter (Firhe) and hood (VALOO) combination:

Without the hood:

And a somewhat geeky write-up of the filter on my blog here: Batteries Not Included (http://silfver.blogspot.com/2006/09/firhe-good-things-come-in-small.html)
Sweet lookin little guys...
Like it, Rich. Aren't the III(F)s a kick?

I'm so jealous!! If you find any more of those, let me know. I'd love to have at least a yellow to mount on my Elmar.

Great photos. I wondered what I had just bought along with my Leica IIf - now I know its a VALOO. I guess I need a FIORE now! (19mm UV filter)

here is a green filter. I just got the yellow one a few days ago.
how many stops of exposure should you add if using both filter and the hood?

Rich has not been around in a long while so I don't think he will answer. For a hood no exposure compensation is necessary. For filter compensation factors you may find this useful http://www.fineart-photography.com/bwfilter.html .

That really is a good looking camera! I'm sorry I was too late on the green filter. I put an ad in the WTB section in the off chance somone has a 19mm screw in filter they would like to sell.
BTW, does the hood interfere with changing the aperture settings?
Again-very nice looking!
The VALOO allows the user to change the aperture without having to face the lens both on camera and enlarger.

Walz also makes the 19mm filters. I found a set on ebay a while back. Only the red and yellow are in my possession--not sure what the other color was.

Hi,
Something you said about having a copy reminded me: I hope you won't think it's rude as I may be pointing out the obvious.
Anyway, often when looking for Leitz/Leica stuff I find Argus, Nebro and so on but in ebay as "Leitz" or "Leica" because people don't realise it isn't Leitz/Leica. So I go looking for Argus, Walz and Nebro stuff in the hope that I'll find Leitz! It works now and then and often the other stuff is OK and cheap.
For example, if you do a search on "Leica C3" you'll find their nice P&S camera and a lot of Argus and other filters mixed up with the camera items on ebay. OK they're not Leitz but usually the Argus or Nebro stuff is cheap and works but it isn't for display. On the other hand, the last thing I want to do is take the display stuff with me when I go for a walk, just in case it rains and I drop it in the mud.
Regards, David
How practical would it be to have an optician cut a proper sized disk from a modern B&W coated filter to replace the glass in a Walz or ? filter?
