For those that want to follow the daily revealing of the M8 on Lightmediation.com

There is of course no guarantee that this is an actual photo of the M8 - but it's kinda fun to see it unveil.

New piece '#2' revealed today.

I've been following the striptease for the last few days. What has been of great interest is how closely the pieces of the M8, as revealed on this site, match what Jorge posted a week ago. But today, there is a difference -- piece #2 has writing -- Leica Camera, Made in Germany. Yet I still believe Jorge's picture is genuine, and so is this. What Jorge posted is just too close to these pictures for it not to be the same camera. IMHO.

Huh, I missed that: the frame counter LCD is where the rewind knob used to be. That's a shift.

The grey, circular 'blob' on the top left is an LCD frame counter?

Jorge's photos were resized and low res. I trust these pics from the frenchman. However, the two sources of pics are close enough that I believe both are of the real M8...

Who cares though, since I would not buy a new M8 anyways... I'll wait until they show up on Ebay!

There was never a rewind knob in Jorge's pics... which would make sense.

Let's see if we can just drag the composite images over here - they might even update automatically if they're reusing the JPG names:

Why don't you drag Jorge's picture of the back of the camera 1#, 4#, and 5# so as to complete the picture? It's pretty much been established that Jorge's pictures where authentic all along. I haven't seen a complete back on any other site, so why not give credit where credit is due?

I notice in Jorge's picture that there are two additional buttons to the left of the command wheel. The one at 11:00 seems to say "menu". The one at 7:00 is unlabelled......possible a user defined button.

The "command dial" has a interesting rotary notation with what appears tp be a magnifing glass icon. In addition to that, their is a conventional 4 way arrow set-up.

I am disappointed in you guys! All this should rightly result in endless speculation! :)

It is nice to hear that the sensor will be the same of the DMR after all the praise the images made with that camera got.

It looks like the DMR interface. Depending on the menu item, Uue the arrows or turn the wheel to change options. On the image replay, turning the dial clockwise magnifies the image and the arrows can be used to pan aorund the picture.

The 7 o'clock button on the DMR is an on/off switch.

What's missing realtive to the R9/DMR is the seond wheel that is (very conveniently) used to set ISO, Image compression, white balance and turn the morie filter on/off. The R9 paddle to set expsoure correction is also not there. Putting these functions in the regular menu will compromise the functionality of the camera somewhat. When I used a Canon digital, changing the ISO was a pain becaue you had to go through a menu. On a DMR is very easy using the two wheels.

If they are using the same wheel as the DMR, then the M8 screen is bigger than the DMR.

I wonder where the battery is going to go? The DMR battery is about 4cmx 1cmx the length of an R9.

Yes, but, will it make me invincible, or will I still have to worry about Kryptonite?

Oh, I just saw the trainwreck remark, I guess I didn't need to make another useless remark... There'll be plenty more to come once it *actually* exists.

Maybe someone has already commented, but today's reveal shows a 1.4 Asph 35mm, right?

There's another reveal as of noon on Tuesday - confirms the camera is the M8 with no other lettering on the front, same as Jorge's earlier pictures. The magnesium chassis looks interesting.

Cheers,

Dan

The selection wheel is the same as the DMR. On DMR there is a wheel also to select ISO, Exp comp etc.

Ifthe "SET" button just cycles thru these on the main screen of M8 this would be a great improvement on the DMR, just cycle the SET and rotate quickly for ISO, COMP etc.
The DMR second wheel is the notorious one that puls off! (sogoodriddance)

Under the base plate, together with the SD card.

The site has disappeared!!  Have the Black Hats from Leica caught up with them??

Edit: They're back on line again :)

What I was going to say: Interestingly the frame of the LCD, including the button panel, seems to be integrated into the magnesium frame. I presume that was done to save any tenth of mm they could regarding thickness.

Under the base plate, together with the SD card.

If the SD card is going under the baseplate, what is going in the little door on the rear upper left? USB connection?
