Photo Village is goingto sponsor an RFF contest and I am waiting for the details on the prize. When I know more, I will post it.

What I do know is that it will be a street photography contest. B&W would be the color of choice :) but not a requirement. There will be no restrictions on the lens used but it needs to be with an RF.

Anyway, stay tuned for more.

RF only again? That's cool, I just got the Hugo Meyer RF on my Speed Graphic calibrated and should have some flashbulbs in hand soon... :D Now, where did I put my fedora?

Yay, how fun! :D Thanks to Jorge and Photo Village for sure.

Defining street photography is a chore I'm glad I don't have to deal with!

Why not something else, or more general than Street Photogrpahy. Having, and shooting with rangefinders doesn't mean that street is the only thing one can do, look at the gallery for instance for ideas. Street is OK but only for a limited few talented members here in this forum, and phtotgraphy in general, even with rangefinder doesn't and shouldn' limit one self to "Street" photography (whatever qualifies as "street" anyway).

The decisive moment, as long as that moment happens at the point of focus directly in front of my tripod.. oh, and it must hold still to get a good 2 second exposure. Make sure I have time to adjust my movements, too!

Come to think of it, if you got a good street shot out of that it'd be genuinely impressive!

Jorge: After a thousand complaints last contest, it's nice to see 50mm lenses won't be mandatory again!!
Then again, I'm sure us members will find something else to whine about.....:D
Looking forward to it, thanks Jorge and Photo Village!

ok, street is pretty vague. I guess as long as it is not still life or studio work. You know, the typical fruit bowl, the christmas family portrait ......

I think it would be interesting to do a Portrait photo contest.. whether it was informal/spontaneous or semi-posed.. as long as it was with an RF and done with available light

It is too hot outside for street :)

I've got no problem with it being street photography :D

I've got about 200ft of film I need to use up and get a good photo from. Here's fingers crossed!

That's a great idea Brett. Its one of those types of shooting that's easy to do, but difficult to do well.

I'm down for whatever regarding the contest though

That's a neat idea. Maybe call it 'Expressions' or something like that. Capturing people's expressions with a rangefinder camera.

If not for this competition maybe as a photo project here.

I love street photography. Used to prefer landcapes, but time constraints have made the former the more practical option. I can do it whenever I go out of the house, as long as I've got a camera in the bag (and I always have at least one).

I think street photography is a genre that is quite accessible to all rff members.

One way to cut down on the theme-post-announcement-bitching could be...a poll :D

1) A thread open for 2-3 days where people get to suggest themes
2) A poll running for 2-3 days where the suggestions from #1 are presented as voting options
3) The theme is a majority choice

Now, there's some fundamental flaws with such an approach - one being that the competition and it's prize is not organized by RFF members but rather by the site owner and a sponsor :)

Anywho, regardless of what the theme is - I'm sure it will be great fun to join in!

Big thanks to Photo Village!!

Buy a Kalart or other rangefinder and mount it on the 4X5. No one said it had to be a coupled rangefinder! :D

Grab a Speed Graphic and join me  We can give homage to Weegee!

Now does it have to be available light? There's nothing like the pop of a #22 to wake the civilians up ...

Ok! anything but the fruit bowl and studio stuff !!!!!!!!!!!

That means that theme is NOT street photography only? Can you tell as something more, like on the other photo contests? For example:
1.Street phptpgraphy( it is O.K. - r.f. is street camera for me )
2.Portret
3.Free subject
Regards!

For those of us who live on the street, this is heaven. Of course so many people in America live inside. So it would be a great challenge. I assume taking a photo of the TV while sitting on the couch or laying on the couch is out.
Thanks jorge and Photo Village.

For contest purposes, would scale focusing cameras like the Rollei 35 and Bessa L qualify?

i'm guessing that this is the pre-announcement that comes prior to the actual annoucement of the contest.
the purpose is to generate some buzz.

i am confident that jorge will have all the details for us when the actual announcement takes place.

at least that's what i'm hoping for...:)

Doh! I was going to photograph my family in the street with a bowl of fruit.

maybe you can still set up a gazebo with white/grey/cloud backdrops in the middle of the high street, with your grocery shopping being carefully arranged by the family, with the family pet sat obediently by your feet. don't forget spotlights to combat the shadowing
