View Full Version : Photo rating
My wife mentioned that the Photo Rating on the gallery should go. She said most people are proud of their shots and someone may insult them with a less than favorable rating. That being the case, I will let you guys decide.
I told here that we are all professionals and can handle it.

I would be happy to dispense with ratings. I like being able to post and share and hear views. I don't know what numbers mean and don't feel a need for folks to compare ratings rather than focus on the photos.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

i'm with alan on this one!
i'd love to get some feedback on my shots when i post them but numbers are not that important to me either.

Maybe it is not a bad idea after all. Number does not mean anything to the critique of a photo and the lack of a numerical ranking would definitely create a more relaxed and cordial atmosphere in the galley, it may encourage more people to post without the fear of bruised ego.

I agree. Numbers or ratings always seems to spur a lot of idiotic discussions. Would be nice if this was point/rating free :-)
(Maybe if we ever have 'competitions' the rating could be activated in that area only).
Yes, I'd agree the rating is unneeded. I see questions fairly often on Photo.net either complaining about no ratings or complaining about some unusually low ratings. I personally never give ratings, as I don't really feel qualified to do so.
The option is no longer there. Thanks for the feedbak.
Late due to some hours of difference (as always :p) but I prefer it without the ratings. In fact I don't really know how to rate a picture with a number. I know what I like or not from a photo, but can't figure how to translate these personal preferences into a number... And exactly like Doug, who am I to do it ?

Late also, but just wanted to give my agreement on the numbers issue.
Oscar, I think you said it better than I did! Agree completely; it's the translation to a simple number. On occasion I'll make a comment about a photo, just hoping it doesn't sound too dumb. In any comment I feel I'm expected say something wise, beyond a simple "I like that one!" so I hesitate.
