A friend of mine who is not a camera person gave me a Leica Lens Flange. Does anyone know what this is for?

My guesses are that it might be to upgrade older Leica's that did not have interchangeable lenses such as the Leica I (A), as a replacement for screw mount Leica's with worn or damaged flanges, or something to do with enlargers. I attached a photo of it. Any ideas are welcome.

thanks - David

David,

I suspect the flange would be intended for use on an enlarger lens board. I haven't had my darkroom assembled for many years, but the old Federal condenser enlarger that is in my attic is threaded for Leica lenses, and I used my 5cm Elmar for large enlargments when my 3-inch enlarging lens would not produce the desired image size on the baseboard.

David, I just checked the lens flange on my screwmount IIIa and it is attached by 4 screws to the camera. Your lens flange shows 3 screw holes, so as Jim suggested, it is likely a flange for enlarger use.
