My M2 re-painting process is most likely going to happen and there are few things I have wondered how should I do them.

The colour is going to be black.

Since original colour is not black, I figured out that it is totally acceptable to little "pimp" my M2. But I can't decide some things;

1. Top plate engravings. I think I will fill all other engravings on the top plate except "M2 1234567" (M2 + serial number that is). So "Leica, blaa blaa, Germany" -text would be gone after the painting. Or should I not fill those engravings...? If I leave those, I would like to fill those engravings with sort of grey colour -- not pure white.

2. Film rewind crank, film/frame counter (? I don't know the right term for that one), speed dial. These I propably will leave in chrome/silver. Or maybe paint all except rewing crank. How would you do?

if you have the time and money Shintaro is the man to paint your camera.
here is the URL to his site:

http://homepage2.nifty.com/Shintaro/top1.html

Andrew Nemouth's excellent webiste also lists other camera painters:

'Hate to say but Shintaro got an absolutely horrible review the other day on the LUG from one guy, then others chimed in. Seems he painted an M the wrong color, then refused to repaint and answer subsequent emails. "Arrogance" or "indifferance" was the term used to describe him. I, for one, would avoid him like a plague.

FWIW My email exchange with him was very informative.

I'm waiting for Shintaro -I'll let you know. His e-mail answering is virtually non-existent in my experience, but well, as long as the painting is as brilliant as everybody says, who cares?
