Canon 1.8/50 filter diameter

I'm a RF rookie, waiting to get my 'new' (in great shape) Canon P CLA'd from Mark Hamma. I bought it with the above referenced Canon LTM lens, and plan on buying the basic b/w filters for it. I've not been able to find anywhere, however, the correct filter diameter. Anyone know it right off hand?

Looking forward to participating on the site. As mentioned, I've never used a RF, though was pretty sure it's what I was looking for as a carry-around camera. After receiving the "P", I was very impressed w/ the build and ergonomics. It'll take a little getting used to from an SLR and TLR, but can tell it'll be a fun camera.

The filter size is 40mm. There were several available here a month or so ago. You might try posting a 'want-to-buy' and see what turns up. Filter Find usually has some available. And then there's ebay...

I'm a rookie too, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable replies as well... I think the filter size for a 50mm f/1.8 is 40mm, but you definitely will want to check with someone else... From what I hear 40mm filters are a bit of an effort to come by... If you scroll down there is some info on the lens.

They are the rare 40mm filter size.

I'd second Victor's suggestion on www.filterfind.net. Tim is a pleasure to deal with, very trustworthy and quick shipping. Last time I checked, they had 40mm Heliopan UV filters on sale. good luck

I almost forgot (old age, etc.) that 'Heavystar' has 40-40.5mm adapters.

Hey, that's pretty quick!. Thanks. I'll look breifly for used, but I like 'em in excellent shape and don't mind buying new, multicoated. Heh, I saved 2/3 of my $$ buying the P instead of an abused M3. Lens hood is next on the hit list.

Lens hood, metal, (40mm size) can be had from www.cameraquest.com . A tad pricey though about $30.

Another thing to look for is a 40mm to Series VI adaptor. Series VI items are relatively plentiful and cheap, so it offers another easier way to handle hoods and filters. It's what I use on my 50/1.8.

Hmm, didn't realize the 40 was non-standard. No luck at the moment, as I want an Orange, Yellow, and Red in that order. Not much need for the UV. I'lll look into the Series VI option as well.

'Heavystar' has 40-40.5mm adapters.
That was my choice for this lens. I like Heavystar's product line. Inexpensive and pretty well made. He's a good seller also.

Check out ebay. There is a seller who has 40mm to 40.5mm step-up rings for $7. I bought one yesterday and I will post an update when it arrives.

I bought such a step-up ring from eBay seller Heavystar recently. It is a very good quality metal ring, screws into the 40mm threads of my various Canon lenses nicely, and accepts the 40.5mm filters well. My only concern is that the edge of the ring is about 4mm wide- I need to test it on 50mm and wider lenses to check for vignetting.

At least on my 50/f1.8 the 40 to 40.5 step ring and a FSU yellow filter don't cause any vignetting, And none that I can see with the 40.5 vented hood/filter/step ring. Don't have any lens wider than 50mm that I use this set up on, though.

It should be OK on the 50's and probably the 35's. Not sore sure about the 28's. A normal 40 was OK on my 28/2.8 just but you may be better off with a wider ring such as a 40 to 46 ring to be sure. On the 25, a single "normal" filter causes vignetting and you really need the thin versions without to front screw part.
