Comment: Black Canon F1 with 50mm F1.4 lens; Just CLA'd. Took it out in the Cold, Cold, snow on its first roll. Smooth as butter, sleek like satin. Perfect meter. Dressed it in a Nikon CTS case so the F's and F2's would not throw a fit.

Comment: Canon 135 finder for the L1/Vt. MINT in Bubble, shipped before I paid for it. Don's stuff is first class. A fellow gearhead that knows his stuff.

Comment: Rob is The Man from Atlanta! You don't find Eagle Scouts that can hunt down a bargain like this and then pass them on to fellow users. I have DIY'd repaired four Canonets, and passed a few of them onto members here at RFF after testing them. Rob describes in detail every problem so you go in with eyes open. My Minolta 7S-II with case from Rob is mint.

And everyone that I have sold cameras/lenses to here at RFF: Fast pay, friendly people, and I have basically quit selling on Ebay.

Reading this thread is fun, "canonized" - hilarious. I feel like most people are basically honest and trustworty, and now I can even name names!
I need to make a list, a long one. Yes Don, I have only had excellent experiences dealing with folks here. Once you get to know folks, trust follows. As long as we are honest and respectful our community will grow. Lets keep our market place strong.

Don sold me a lens that, after receiving it (in mint shape, exactly as described, and packed extremely well) we mutually figured out that it had been put back together incorrectly after a CLA (of which he also sent the receipt). He took the lens back, no questions asked, and even reimbursed my return shipping costs. I can't say enough good things about Don !!

COMMENT: I joined this forum after getting the RF bug late last year. I got scammed on a few rangefinders on eBay and was lamenting on this forum about my problems, when David offered to fix my cameras for me. We arranged a trade, and David worked diligently, patiently, and with kindness in fixing my Canonet GIII-QL17. You can actually find a post or two on this forum of David working through that particular camera. Today I sent up my other camera in need of help. David is an excellent guy, a true treasure to this forum, and is really cool person to know.
I am very blessed to know someone like David. Without him, I would have been turned off to rangefinder photography and would have probably just junked my cameras and moved on with life. Because of him, I can now enjoy this hobby.
The next time the R.F.-G.A.S. (Range Finder Gear Acquisition Syndrome) hits me, I'll contact David first for getting a camera!
Thank You,

Time for some feedback!
Floyd, Chaser, Joe, the reasons why I sell items here. No problems, no hassles, and people who enjoy using the equipment. Not going off to a distant place to just sit on a shelf!
R-Brian: great seller, hard to find stuff! I will be putting the proper shade on my Retina IIIc lenses! May not get a whole lot of use, but that Kodak will be wearing shades. And with a 120 back for the Speed-graphic, it may finally get out of the closet.

General Statement. It may be time to attach some rules to the classified ads here. Rules such as a limit on classified ad posts per month, selling things overseas, etc. Selling overseas is a pain-in-the-A. Because of all of the counterfeit Money Orders floating around, I was informed that my last international Postal MO in US dollars would take 4 weeks to be deposited to my account. Never mind that I have a lot of funds in the account to cover it. That is the way it is these days. I'm not going to hold a shipment to an RFF member, but it involves some risk. Same with Paypal. If a credit card is stolen, and the payment is from overseas, the seller loses their money. Again, some risk. But this is an international forum, and I think offering items for sell internationally is a good thing. As a seller, I try to estimate a reasonable amount for the shipping. International shipping with insurance is not cheap no matter how small an item is. And customs are of course the responsibility of the buyer.
I certainly have turned more than an occasional piece of gear around, have bought stuff to fix-up and resell at a profit. Usually it goes to offset the latest additions to the collection. Mind you, if I want to "maximize" the profit, and no one is really hunting for one here, up on EBay it goes. Lately I sold a bunch of stuff to offset the Nikon M and lenses that I picked up. I put some Olympus Pen F stuff up on Ebay and made $350 off of a $90 purchase. I could probably turn the $470 Nikon M unsync over for close to $3K if I wanted to, but I'm a collector. I do consider myself a buyer and seller of camera gear. And I probably have more inventory than most small camera shops. So does Bill and Wierd Collector. I was kind of let down when Bill put his stuff on EBay rather than here, but I can certainly understand why.
I have obviously taken advantage of the 35mm Classified ads here. It's easier, faster, more reliable, and cheaper than Ebay. Plus the buyers really use the gear. Some ground rules to level the playing field would ease my mind.

i hope that last money order wasn't mine!
you may be right - it may be time.
jorge started this thread and as owner i would think that anything that looks like a rule should maybe come from him.
i also wonder if the old adage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' might apply here.
i can only assume as to the timing of your comment brian, where the impetus for it came from.
i highly doubt that anyone here has a problem with your buying & selling on the rff. i most certainly do not. you have been up front since day one and you are an established member of the forum, both adding to and interacting with many of us.
when someone comes along and it 'appears' that their interests here are purely for profit, i will be the first to say so. just as i have done recently.
sometimes less IS more and that may just apply to the rules here.
self regulation by responsible parties can work.
just my thoughts on this matter.

What a good idea hoot had.
I shipped off a filter to him last week, no trade and not a lot of $ money involved. Instead of going the Paypal route, which would involve some fees, I exchanged the filter for a small web gift certificate to amazon.com. Not a lot of $ like I said, but free to buyer and seller from fees, and always useful.
A good idea and another way to make trade work here.

Tom is a great buyer--followed through with a money order payment and kept me informed of mailing date and receipt of his package.
USER: ferdinand
Ferdinand insisted on meeting in person so I could check out the M4-2 and lens first hand and know what I was getting. A super honest guy and a great resource for digital imaging info.

Bought a Crumpler bag from him. Fast shipping and exactly as described, a smooth deal all around.

Because of logistics, I shipped a finder to Wayne before receiving payment. He had the m.o. in the mail immediately after we made a deal. I appreciate the class shown by buyers and sellers alike in every transaction I've had on RFF.

it's amazing the amount of trust shown here by some of the members.
i also have had gear shipped to me before they had received my payment, in essence we were both taking the same risk (not just the buyer).

What can I say apart from a huge, bold, underlined and 72 sized THANKS TOM !!!!!!!

COMMENTS: My transaction with Dan didn't originate in the classifieds, nor was it technically a sale, but it needs to be said that Dan is a true gentleman. In a thread I made inquiring about camera bags, Dan was generous enough to offer to buy one and ship it to me. He was very conscientious every step of the way, sending me scans of the sales receipts and the postal receipt and tracking number. He also used great judgment in warning me about the actual shade of my first color choice and sent pics of the bag for me to judge myself, after which he was gracious to exchange it for me. Although I suspect he may have secretly wanted me to use a bag with the Canadian flag embroidered on it here amid the Stars and Bars, I have no proof and must admit that, no, he's just a good guy. ;)
Kudos to Jon Goodman for being a great guy and an excellent seller! Jon not only offered up a gorgeously refurbished Canon QL17, but sent it prior to payment for me to test out at my leisure. It performed flawlessly. Thanks again, Jon!

Is it just shipping to Canada that's slow, or is it generally slow both ways? I've had two shipments from Canada recently, and in both cases the package was at my door about a week after shipment (which seemed to be consistent with the promised delivery schedule).

I have been looking for a thread to thank all the rff members for their generosity in support of my camera repair projects. Specifically to the lobster for a beautiful zorki 1b body in need of a shutter repair, kuvvy for a fed collapsible lens which he sent in a great little pouch, kiev4a for zorki 2c parts and Laika for fed3 parts.
I had a most satisfactory transaction with sockeyed when I purchased a vintage J-12 ltm from him.

Comments: A++ seller! Rover sold me a filter for $6 including shipping to Europe, which in retrospect I think was a very kind gesture. The filter arrived immediately and was in mint condition.
User: Chaser
Comments: A++ buyer! I gave Chaser my old scanner for free, but asked him to pay for shipping. Since I didn't know exactly how much this would cost, I gave him a rough estimation first, and sent it off before receiving his payment (on my own risk). It turned out to be considerably more than my estimation, but he paid immediately without complaint. Very trustworthy buyer.
Thanks, guys! RFF is a fun place!

Andrew was an excellent buyer. Sent payment immediately after deciding to purchase and was completely understanding when it took me a couple days to send out and that the address was screwed up by UPS initially. This was my first sale ever of camera equipment (I have a tendency to acquire, not give up :( ) and was kinda nostalgic sending away my first RF. However, I think it's got an excellent new home! Joe, no worries about the payment speed. It was certainly within an agreeable time frame -- most of the others were paypal, so I was just noting the difference.
As for 50/1.8 lenses, most of them came to me as thick body caps on Canon bodies. I kept the 50/1.8 which came on the IIf. But I didn't really need the extra 50/1.8s which came with the VT, VI-T, etc. I even once got a Canon 50/1.8 as a throw-in with an otherwise perfectly matched Leica IIIa, Summar, case, and leica-meter II.
I think I've sold 4 50/1.8s in all. I suppose I could have kept one black one and one chrome one, but I didn't really see the point.

Comment: Don't you love it when there's a parcel waiting? Thanks BJ for the excellent strap. Grab one of these, folks, before he wakes up!
Another vote for greyhoundman (a rather late one). He has been very patient with all the complications we encountered due to my personal circumstances (location, etc), plus always gave helpful advice. Not only is he a great seller, but also includes "product support." Love my Yashica GS, she's beautiful, looks almost new to me.:)

David's been terrific to deal with. We did a trade, and his camera arrived today as described. I feel bad that he's still waiting for mine to reach him, but I hope he finds the wait worthwhile.
Thanks David!

Just found this thread..
Did business with cp_ste-croix (Chris) for a Canonet QL17.
Easy to work with, arrived in good order and was very helpful as it was my first RF. Also friendly and kept great communications. Very pleased!

ChrisN, Leicaflex SL with Summicron. First rate all the way around. Another case of an RFF member coming across a super-bargain and passing it along to others.

i seem to be very bad at remembering to list feedback so i will try to catch up in one post.
if i have not listed you it's because i have forgotten and not written down our transaction.
also please note, i have never had a bad deal here on the forum.
* g'man - a great guy to deal with and sometimes he justs sends me stuff.
* have done some business/trading with scott s. - he is upfront and a square dealer who drives a hard bargain :) but no surprises.
* sold some stuff to chris n, to frank s, william, brian, wayne, john neal, capn' slack, and traded books with ray g. all great guys to deal with. no hassles and everything went smoothly.
now if only ebay sellers were as easy to deal with...

(didn't know this thread existed)
Seller: G-man (aka greyhoundman aka Dave); sold me a perfectly fine (so far!) Yashica Electro 35 on a Monday, paid him that same day (almost 3% less but I made him realize the fuzz of the math ;) ), and camera was at my door on Wednesday.
I just completed a good transaction with Kevin Li of kevincameras.com.
I know others have had trouble with him, but he was willing to trade me a Canadian Elmarit 28mm Type-I for a Type-IV that's in good condition- only a bit of paint missing from the front edge of the focusing ring. Lens is clear, as promised (though I did have to clean the front element with a touch of alcohol and Q-tips) and takes nice pictures.
pacoats (Peter Coats): this gentleman purchased my Mamiya 6 set. The transaction went smoothly and he was a pleasure to deal with.

g'man - almost goes with out saying it was a great experience.
i sent the g'man a working but dirty yashica gs that belongs to a friend.
the filter ring was dented and the mercury battery in it was in need of replacement and the finder was hazy.
it came back looking new with a finder that looks great, clear as can be. and an adapter in it for a modern battery.
quick work and more than reasonable cost.
this man is our own treasure...

Just purchased a Mamiya 6 with 50mm and 75mm lens from hoot (Ronnie Niedermeyer). All equipment was exactly as described, and packed impeccably. It was a pleasure to transact with him, and am indebted to him to him for bringing me to the world of medium format!
