Anyone owns an epson 4180 scanner?

Just a quick question. My scanner constantly produces dark images. In slide there are almost invisible....
How many lamps does this scannet has on the top? I can "see" 2 with some dark area in the middle. Is this normal?

If I understand your question correctly, then yes, that's normal. There is one light for each of the two rows of negatives, slides etc.

You should be able to look at your images in the preview mode as a full image and make adjustments for contrast, color, lighten/darken etc. prior to scanning. I sometimes make adjustments before scanning and sometimes only after. It depends upon the image I'm working with.

What Walker said... Try VueScan software, too. You can download the full version but without the license key. Whithout the key, it used to put lots of watermarks on your image -- not sure what it does now -- but, you will be able to evaluate the improvement of your scans, especialy B&W. Anyway, I will be posting some samples on shutterflower's scanning thread... Just got his film strips... give me a day or so...
