Well,

I did it. Used my wifes visa :D and got the new 50 asph in chrome.

What a gorgeous lens! Now I need to go out and shoot.

Chatting with Tom Abrahamsson, he feels that the 50 ASPH has no rivals; there are no other lenses with its image quality.

Nothing can touch this lens...except you. So get out there and use it (and share the results with us)!

I like the 35mm lux

Congrats, Jorge! From what I've heard and seen, the 50 ASPH is fantastic. Expensive, but well worth it, especially for the low-light shooter.

My solution is to have several 50s--that way if I start to complain about one, I can use another. :-) I mostly use the VC 50 Nokton for available light, and a 50 Summicron for outdoors and travel. However, ahem, I must admit that I also switch between a tabbed Summicron and a DR as my moods vary.

You've probably simplified your life, as the new 50 may be the only one you need. But you may have deprived yourself of the pleasure of future GAS buildup and release. . . (or not)!

Ah yes, but dare you return??

Truly a great lens - your finance approach is novel, I had a fleeting urge to do likewise, but my wife would likely beat me to death with my Zorki 5....well if ya gotta go.. :D

Or maybe a rolling pin? (to be declaimed in a Yatesian fashion)

Wow! I didn't know the 50 lux asph came in chrome. That's what I wanted but it seemed like the only one in chrome was the LHSA version. Very expensive. I see it now on Popflash's website. Congrats! We need pictures!

That's one hell of a sexy lens ! Give me chrome over black any time. Unfortunately, my girlfriend doesn't have a visa card (and she'd kill me if I would use it for photo gear, too).

Man oh man,
If I did that I would be submerged in a glass bubble filled with water in a NYC public space for a while.
Lucky guy, congrats!

Jorge, the lens is a thing of beauty and your methods are similar to my own. My first question is how will that lens look on a black m7? I know how a chrome body looks with the black lens, but not vice-versa... small point, but one I am struggling with as I am trying to justify an a la carte black enamel m7 with mp bits with a black normal lens (I thought it would match the black body better) while I clear funding through creative financing.

Also, the focus ring on the LHSA model is rather unique, and it seems to have a slightly more prominent aperture ring... is the lens otherwise identical to yours?

And finally, do the chrome and black 50 f1.4 asph both weigh the same or is the black a lighter alloy like the earlier black lenses? I may be mistaken, but I thought I had read that all lenses were now bronze beneath their anodized color.

Thanks, and best of luck with the subterfuge... remember, ambiguity is the key...

What does GAS stand for - sorry to ask a basic question - but I believe I have suffered from it and I am trying to explain it to the doctor:)

Mike, it's an acronym for Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Jorge... I know of a good lawyer! :) Will you leave that lens to me if I tell you the name?

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, I think I have it and there is no cure.

I know how a chrome body looks with the black lens, but not vice-versa...I find a chrome lens on a black body to be delightfully attractive.

Jorge,

See if you can get the credit card company to list it as "jewelry." That might confuse the issue in the future...

Smooth focusing, silver chrome, same filter size as 35 lux asph, tab focus like it too- looks like the LHSA 50mm will be sitting on the dealer's shelves for a bit longer maybe. Wonder when they'll come out with the black paint version.

Whoops...! Time for yet another working acronym: Wife's Reaction to the Acquisition of Terrific Hardware.

If a frying pan is somehow involved, I hope she prefers All-Clad to regular cast-iron! :D
