If they ever make their way over here...we need to start charging for access to these forums or get some serious bans. Take a look at dpreview. That place has turned to trash in the forums.

sportsshooter.com just went through and cleaned house. Check out what it takes to become a member.

That is fairly calm and friendly for that place. I deleted all of my uploads and canceled my account last Winter when it raised blood pressure just to look at the Leica Forum. The Nikon forum was just as bad, dare say anything bad about Nikon or Nice about Canon and the moderator deleted the thread. Much nicer over here.

That kind of thread is why I haven't been to many other forums since I have found this fine group of people.
I am an unabashed amateur at photography and happy to be one. And I have gotten very clear indications that I wasn't the "right sort of person" to hang around with all those PHOTGRAPHERS.
I ask questions because I don't know the answer, I answer questions because I think I know. I give opinions because I have them.
I haven't posted many pictures any where cause there ain't that many of them that I like well enough to share with anyone. Most of the few that I do like AND think are any good I have enlarged and framed and they (maybe 7 or 8 over the last six or seven years) have been given as gifts to my freinds and family. I do like the gear itself but I'm trying not to become a collector. (though these durned FSU cameras are very hard to resist:bang: )
The folks around here don't seem to mind that photography is my hobby and I some times ask dumb questions or that my opinions are just that-mine- and not always right.
Whew!
When I first joined I mentioned that I am a chef and was asked if I would share recipes. Absolutely !
But they may need to be adjusted for groups smaller than 150:D Seriously; I will, but since this isn't the RadarRange(for those of you who aren't old enough or not from the US-insert the appropriate stove top pun here) forum it would be better if you PM'd me. Rob

I left the Leica forum soon after I signed up for the same reasons, couldn't stand the narrow-mindedness over there.

The best parts of the Leica forum, to me, were the interesting w/nw postings by travis... Haven't seen much of him there lately. The nobs there don't like the w/nw concept -- the Very Idea of using a Leica to take a photo !

I quit reading most of the text postings there some while ago. They can even turn camera bags into a religion ... not to mention lens caps...

I still read the MF and Classic forums there as I can occasionally find nuggets in them, but most of the rest is just sad.

I occasionally still visit the Leica forum, but most of the decent people have left and you are left with childish and/or acidic posts that as William says, make for sad reading. Life is short so what's the point?

I still visit the Camera Equipment forum and one or two others but the Leica forum seems to be more or less finished. It's just so much more congenial (not to mention broad-minded ;) ) here that I don't stray too much any more... :)

The Classic Camera Forum at Photo.net has some good stuff and the people are interested in all kinds of cameras. I like that. PN's Leica Photography Forum has an unwelcoming atmosphere and is often downright nasty. Visit it if you want to get bummed out. RangeFinderForum is the most congenial by far and also has some of the most interesting threads. It has also developed a nice feeling of community along with intelligent discussion.

Hell is a camera shop with no 120 film in stock.

With regards to photo.net, I'm like William. I still post on the Classic, where I thoroughly enjoy Gene's images made with his collection of cheap, consumer, bakelite, box-type cameras. It's a place where someone with a Pre-War Ikonta can feel right at home.

I've been avoiding the Camera Equipment Forum, as I find that in addition to some misinformed opinions - there is a tendency for the great "digital versus film" ruckas to creep into a lot of threads.

different gene frank.

i actually like going over to the leica forum. i stay clear of the nasties (for the most part) but i love the wicked humour, as long as it's not against me.
it's like being a peeping tom of sorts.

I've participated more here than in the PN Leica forum, which has its good and bad moments. However, for overall, consistent quality of interaction, this place has no competition.

Actually, the reason I lurk in PN is the deals. I've gotten a lot more gear there than from eBay.

"i actually like going over to the leica forum."

Apparently there are several Leica groups. I go to the LUG or "Leica User's Group" and also another Leica board. The LUG gets a little rowdy now and then but the other one allows absolutely NO nastiness and offers a quick exit to any member who breaks the rules.
