Question about Jupiter 12

I have a Fed 2d with a 50mm Industar 26M and I tried to put the Jupiter 12 35mm
lens on it and can't seem to get it to fit. I don't want to force anything so after two attempts I quit. Does it not fit? The 50mm Industar goes on very easily. The Jupiter goes on readily onto the M2 where it has been since I got it 3 weeks ago. TIA. :confused:

I wouldn't keep trying. The Jupiter has a fairly large rear element that may go too deep into the camera. Oddly enough it works on the Leica M2 'cuz it's not metered. This Jupiter won't work well on a M6 or M7: it blocks the meter.

Again, I don't know much about FSU cameras, but if the lens and camera are not friendly to one another, don't push it.

I agree with Francisco about not pushing it, especially if it works well with your M2. Out of curiosity what are the dates on the J-12 & the Fed? I've often thought that the earlier ones were less compatable and like trying to get data points for and against that position.

I will not keep trying, thanks for your advice. It just seemed so great to be able to use a FSU lens on a FSU camera. Too bad it doesn't work out. That's Ok it can stay on the M2.

On the FED, the Jupiter-12 should fit. There is lots of space inside and the large rear element shouldn't be the problem. Can you open the camera, fire and lock the shutter open on B and then try to mount the lens to see where it hangs?

Tried it that way and there is plenty of room in there, but the lens doesn't seem to have enough thread to attach. I tried several times, but it goes on readily on the adapter for the M2. Thanks for your help, I'll try again soon.
Michael I I'll know if it is a good lens( the Jupiter) as soon as I finish the 36 exp roll of Neopan 400. It is very clean and the glass looks good. Thanks.

My recent black J12 wouldn't screw into my FED2c or 3a but would fit in all others. It was because on the 2c the rf cam lever "hung" too low into the lens opening. I couldn't get the J12 thread started. A gentle bend up on the lever, less that 1mm I would say, and it's fine. On the 3a there was a metal Tag sticking up into the shutter chamber which the glass would foul, although it would screw in. Bent that out of the way too, I guess that it was meant as a stop for a collapsing lens. Both FEDs now work with the J12.

That sounds like what fidget is describing. (19)87 is a very recent lens, so it won't have the fat butt problem ;) but I would not be surprised to hear that the RF cam is in the way somehow.

The J-12 is a very nice lens. It, the J-8 & the J-11 tend to be trouble free lenses so stick with it. I like mine very much.

I looked into the body with the lens off and the shutter on Bulb, the focusing cam does hang "low". Does moving it up cause any problem with focus or focus shift? I bought the Jup-12 to use on the M2 where it resides very comfortably and secure. It is not a big deal if I can't use it on the FED. Thanks for your help. :cool:
