Would a 21,5 mm filter fit a 50mm f3.5 Elmar somehow?

Someone said it would, but I disagree. :) So, what's the verdict?

Searched the forums but nothing came up.

I think it's a 19mm thread size, same as on the Argus C3. Nice Ebay trick to find Elmar filters.

BUT: some of these filters, even the threaded ones, went by the outer diameter. A Kodak 32mm filter has a 29.5mm thread and fits the Retina's. Every other filter I have is marked 29.5mm for the Retina and fits it. The Kodak filters are marked 32mm.

SO: some vendors "might" have measured the same was as Kodak, an outer diameter and 21.5mm would be about right. Clear as mud.

Clear as mud, yes... ;)

The man said they were Kenko filters, with the inscription "diameter 21.5 mm". I'd better wait and see what gives when the Elmar (and IIIf) comes back...

it was I...I am trying to show you the Kenko 21.5mm filter...the 21.5mm is the outside diameter...the actual size of the lens thread is smaller, of course...and as others have already said, the Argus C3 takes the same size filter...They are difficult to find...you have to hunt....I so far can't figure out how to post a JPEG but am still working on it...regards, bob

Jerevan - I have a couple of 17.5mm and 16.5mm B+W filters. If you want to try them with some tape packing I am happy to send them.

Hey, that's cool! Thanks for the picture, Bob. I think I just found five of the Kenko filters. :)

The correct filter size for your Elmar 5cm is 18.5mm. I have a yellow #2, a green, and an orange filter in that size I use on my Elmar frequently.
