View Full Version : Where to buy used G lenses?
Besides Ebay, any other places to used G lenses with good price?
There was a Contax G 45mm/2 Planar at Midwest Photo Exchange (http://www.mpex.com/WVM35.html) going for $89...
Also try-
www.keh.com
www.tamarkin.com
www.cameta.com
www.brooklyncam.com (This where I got my first Bessa R from)
Also check B&H and Adorama's used sections.
Hope it helps in your quest, good luck.

I bought some filters from KEH. One was impeccable, the other was so dirty I don't know how they even rated it EX or EX+ or whatever it was, but it was fine after a good rub down. I have heard only good things about KEH, all first hand from at least a dozen or so people. I would feel safe getting more lenses for my G there. I don't know about any of the others.
But nothing beats finding it locally in a used store and getting to try it before ya buy it though.

I haggled a little with my local camera store and I got a good deal on the 90mm for my G1.
What's KEH's rating? is EX+, EX or Like New good enough?
Adorama has quite a bit G lenses, but a bit more expensive? Anyone have experience with them?
How do you compare the haggled price local store with online like KEH and Adorama?
What's your experience on eBay? I bid several lenses, but they were all outbid buy quite high prices. What's going on?
keh seems a bit expensive?

I have found both of the following excellent to deal with:
www.georgeury.com
www.classicconnection.com
Used camera stores are normally "expensive" compared to likes of eBay and other websites that sport classified ads, such as that
other photography website with the questionble Leica forum (http://www.photo.net/) .
The reason is that they have to make their profit, to feed and house their wife and kids, plus there's the overheads like shop rent, staff, phone, etc.
One bonus with used camera stores is a warrantry. Unless it's sold AS-IS, you tend to get a 3-12 month warrantry on your purchase. Try calling up a eBay seller six months later saying your camera has died and you the camera fixed/replaced/ your money refunded... Good luck!
I bought an "Ugly" tele-converter for my Hasselblad from KEH. "Ugly" means fun things like scratches, fungus, damage, etc. Buy alias, no scratches, no fungus. When it arrived it looked like it had been on river cruise up the amazon at least three times. But half and hour later armed with cotton buds (Qtips), can of air, some isopropyl alcohol and a tin of Humbrol satin black paint she's good as new.

I bought a Bargin 60mm S-Planar from KEH, it is beat up... and lens is perfect, all parts move perfectly. Well worth the money.
I have bought things from KEH from Ex to LN-. They have all been near perfect. They tend to be more careful with more expensive items. I have bought two Mamiya 7 lenses (43mm and 150mm) and both were listed EX and I could not tell they had been used at all...and I am very picky. I also got a medium format scanner that was LN-, but it was essentially the exact same as a new scanner. I really like dealing with them. And if you don't like it, you have 14 days to send it back. I find them much better than adorama. I bought a summicron from them that was listed as excellent, and it was from the 60s and showed very noticeable wear...they did not indicate that it was not the latest model on the website and it was only 200 dollars less than the new price.
