Maybe Chico can answer this question!
Indeed. I'm thoroughly fed up with this childish behavior. Its been exhibited on PN and now here too. Can't a range of IP addresses be blocked, not just one IP address?

Complain all you want--this is one of the few worthwhile threads going right now.
Is there some virus going around which causes people to lose any sense of fun?
Oh, my answer--Zeiss. Always. It's an incontestable fact.

Let's have make some guesses...
What will FG's next username be?
What will FG's next interesting topic be?
How long before FG returns?
BONUS QUESTION: Is FG really harrassing, is he simply being annoying, or or is he being just "cute"?

Fred, I think you have an odd sense of what's worthwhile. Could you explain how you think this thread is one of the few worthwhile threads going right now?

fred,
i'm gonna guess that you & frank have an email thing going on.
all i will say is that i did too and when frank decided that i was one of the bad guys he turned on me very quickly and it it wasn't very pretty.
he still emails me, i assume trying to taunt me or in some way harass me.
it's not about a sense of fun as i once thought also.

There's a common re-interpretation of the definition of "assume" which I probably don't need to re-hash here. I don't have "things" with anyone via email. If there
are some problems to be worked through I'm on "Cymbalta" which seems to work
for me but my friend Nancy prefers "Zoloft". Of course, it could be that gloomy weather you guys get on the "left" coast. Sunshine is my drug, and I freely OD
every chance I get. Sunlamps can work too, but you have to be careful with new
ones because the UV is really hot. UV is very effective for Seasonal Affective Disorder.
One thing's for sure--if a bunch of guys had bought me a Zeiss Ikon I'd be a lot
happier than you seem to be.

I (nerd alert, nerd alert) was/am an admin on a forum running the same software is here. Yes, it is possible to ban a range of IPs - but anyone caught in that range would be SOL.
The usefulness of such a method depends entirely on the size of Frank's ISP and his connection method. If he's on cable or DSL that stays connected most/all of the time, chances are that his IP is fairly static and it would require some work for him to dodge the IP ban over and over. I know I don't relish starting and restarting my cable modem regularly. (But then, FG seems mentally unstable and such a hassle wouldn't bother him? Good thing I signed up here with my gmail address!)
If he's on dial-up, you'd have to start banning ranges (ie 192.168.100.*) which could catch other people, and if the ISP is large enough may be difficult to narrow down his IPs.
If he's using AOL, it's all but impossible to curtail his access. They use a series of proxy IPs that could be shared by multiple people at the same time and have no connection to the user or his whereabouts.
Yes, yes, but which one's sharper? :D :bang:

Fred, I'm the one on the 'left coast' while Backalley is a mountain range or two away from the coast. It was a great, sunny day today.
Hope your surf turns better soon, buddy.

I think the list owner should look into contacting the police dept. in F.G.'s locale. I think he needs to be (lawfully) slapped, and/or fitted for that nice white jacket that ties in the back. This is certainly harassment. He's wasting all of our time. Seems to me that if this number of posts had come from a commercial spammer, everyone would be calling for the person's head on a platter...

Oh, right...Orographic Precipitation. I DO remember something from college! Regrettably, we need a storm to really generate surf and...we don't want no more
storms. Maybe just a wee ground swell. I have a long board (9'), so I don't need
big waves. Actually, I'm too old and slow for big waves. It's been sunny here, too
and unseasonably cool--just beautiful. But I know this summer will make us pay
dearly. I fear another active tropical season is awaiting us.

There's nothing Frank has done on the board that would merit legal action in either Canada or the US, especially given that the admins can ban him and his IP range any time they choose (the law doesn't care that other readers might get caught in the ban). He hasn't made any kind of threats, he hasn't broken the site, he's done nothing but annoy a few people.
One thing the admins might consider is turning off the ability of guests to post without registering.

I hope you're wrong about the upcoming storm season, there has been too much suffering down south already.
Apparently some people surf off of the west coast of Vancouver Island, I've been meaning to try but needing a 7mm wetsuit sounds like it's really cold.
Hoping the surf turns good, while the weather remains mild...

If the water temp is below 70 I always have my wet suit--we're spoiled here (or else
we're sissies). It takes a hardy soul to brave those cold waters. I don't know if it's
dedication or dementia. There is another lesser-known attribute of wet suits--they
are "package" enhancers--almost to the point of embarrassment.

yeah...i did over 100 cold water dives here in wetsuits. never again. never. 7 degrees celcius is enough to negate any package enhancing properties of neoprene. brrrrr..... :)

I'm roughing it here, but 7 Celcius would be about 43-45 Fahrenheit, right? NO. NO. NO. That's torture.

Actually the admins cannot do anything, if he is clever enuff to use one of those proxies somewhere in the Taiga. You cannot keep anybody out here.
The only thing is you can dry him out with zero response. My impression tho is there is no attack idiotic enufff that not some folks want to post their remarks about it.
Is it not better to simply ignore this Kinderkacke than calling the police ??? A suggestion btw which made him ROFL, I am sure.

 Hello nice people. I am new.
Ouhh, Frank, haste nix Besseres zu tun ?
I am very disappointed. I expected better thought out provocations coming from your post mortem alias. This is boring intellectual diarrhoe.. Pfourrrrz .... there it goes.
You won't get people started on this crap too long, after a while those you aim to will lose interest. I mean we all know since a long time that Zeiss is for pros and Leica for amateurs. So what?
If you feel the urge to provoke people then make the provocation at least worth to deal with, a bit entertaining it should be IMO. The way you act here makes you look (intellectually) like 2 pounds of old bread.
And, just in case that it is you who slows down this site by any goofy scripts running anywhere in the White Russian Taiga , please stop it . You bother too many friendly folks here who do not earn your "punishment".
Das ist Sippenhaft !! O.K., just in case it is you..... as I said.
Wishing a good and soon and complete recovery ! :D
Cheers,
bertram.

It seems everytime Frank G posts a typical trolling question, it generates a 40+ posts, with members at each others' throats for inane reason or another. I am sure he is getting a kick out of this, and I am equally sure he will be back for more. It appears he is getting the last laugh, after all.
Frank, if you are reading this... I hope all your photos come out purple. :)
I wonder, then, why this continues. . . it would be so easy.
Maybe just a wee ground swell. I have a long board (9'), so I don't need

Ooo oo, I have a 9'6" :) I'd recommend you go get one of the bigger, 10' ones, preferably with "hydrohaul" to help turn those piers -- they work very well on dinky waves. Most of my surfing buddies are as old, if not older, than my cameras so hope you never say you are too old and slow for surfing, even if for small swell
If you're in southern california, be sure to check our doheney and Old Man's down at San Onofre. My favorite places :) This was me at doheney a couple years ago.

jano, gotta stay with the 9--it's the longest board I can fit in my car so I don't have
to mess with racks. I just do it for the exercise--never was any good. But it's a
great way to clear one's head.
Fred
Ahh, okay. My rack is bolted atop the car, but it does suck trying to get the thing strapped down when the rain's out and it's freeing cold (a few weekends ago I did this -- and I was doubly cold because I had half the wetsuit off and couldn't pry myself free from it).
Ever "trunk it" in cold water? :D My coldest thus far was 52 degrees  Feel sorry for Chris up there in the northwest, that water is C O L D.
What's cool about this site? Lots of people with similar interests :)

Us southerners can't handle that stuff--I wouldn't attempt 52 in the suit--still gotta
get them fangers to work, dontcha know? I just want to get in the water and paddle
so I can build some muscle mass and gain weight. I weigh less now than when I was
13--forty (!) years ago. I even eat Krispy Kreme doughnuts and I STILL can't gain
weight. That's me--always going the opposite way of everybody else...

Fred
No, Fred it was not a joke. But reading one or two of your recent contributions to RFF, it's not surprising you'd defend him. I was trying to compare it to a scenario where, say, a commercial spammer attacked us as much as he does; you, and others, would be calling for the guy's execution.
As far as "nothing illegal committed", that's wrong. There are several stautes that would apply, they're just not commonly known. Harassment would be a well known one that applies, but there would be others that could also; it's kind of like if I were to interfere with your telephone service in an intentional way. Internet communication is the same.
