Just out of curiousity is anyone here related to anyone famous, dead or alive?

I am a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake on my Mothers' side. I enjoy being able to say that I am a pirate, even if he was a bit on the "fancy" side as pirates go.

I am related to Herbie the cop. There was a time in my town when everyone knew who Herbie the cop was. Is that a famous person? Is that a good thing?

As in around the world Francis Drake? Cool

Do you ever have any urges to start walking in one direction for a very long time just to see where it will take you?

Sorry, I didn't sleep last night so I am a little punchy right now.

not related to anyone famous, but my grandfather did leave Warsaw in 1911 to avoid having to serve in the Czar of Russia's army. Got lucky, came to USA and missed WW1.

My great grandmother on my dad's side's uncle was Clark Gable. He was named after my great great grandfather (his father's brother), Robert Gable, whose nickname was Clark.

I don't think about it too much, but my son is very intrigued by the connection, and really wants to become an actor. He's a big show off.

To add further glory to my dad's side, we are direct descendants of Revolutionary War general Arthur St. Clair. I've never received any blowback from any of these legacies however :)

Bill: Nordic Blood! A real man there :)

So we have (as far as long dead types go): A pirate, a Viking, and a king! What an odd bunch we are!

I don't know if a former police officer should admit this, but a close uncle of mine is the basis for a character on The Sopranos, right down to the character using his real name. Not one of the 5 or 6 "big guys", but he's there... No, I won't say which one!

Speaking of Phil Rizzuto, My sister and niece was/are great fans of his and attended many of his personal appearances, and struck up a friendship of sorts, and it got to the point that they would bring him cannolis to the TV sportscaster's booth at Yankee Stadium and hang out. He and Yogi are really nice people, but I imagine you could guess that. I see Yogi from time to time at NJ Devils hockey games and I still get very nervous and almost hyperventilate around him. I've been near 5 U.S. Presidents, and I think Yogi got me the most excited.

well on my mother's side the closest I can get to famous is my grandfather was working security for the Oscars [a side door] when Marlin Brando tried to enter without a badge.
An official ran up and asked my grandfather if he knew who that was, he said YEAH the guy tring to get in without a badge..... later that night he won the best actor oscar for ON THE WATERFRONT.

Dad's side John Thomas Snelson arrived from England in 1695 among other things, a first family of Virginia, and much more important HE knew when to leave England [as opposed to the Aussie Snelson's who waited just a little too long, what can I say my Great, Great,Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great grandfather knew when to "get out a dodge" :D

I once rode in an elevator with Stevie Nicks and fantasized about having relations with her - does that count?

My wife is distantly related to Lucille Ball.
