a first scan of some shots from yesterday afternoon.

this is a street scene and then a section of the pic.

hp5 processed in ddx but the film looks more grainy than normal.
could this be from developer that's too old?.

I really like that. Very nice. And I like the grain. :)

Joe, the marquee is sharp...... but terribly grainy! ;)

Just kidding. That lens looks like a winner and capable of high quality images. Your film/developer combination also seems to be excellent. I've always found HP-5 to be really good. I don't find the grain to be objectionable at all.

I would say a little grainy myself too... I use HP5 sometimes and found it to be nifty, I like delta better but its all good. I do them all up in Ilford LC29, not the most fashionable developer I guess but it gets the job done and looks good, and its the only developer I can get here besides d76...

Looking at your location, have you ever used Lucky brand developer before?

Nice...
Thanks Joe.. 25 just isn't wide enough for me though :)

If I get that Ikon.. I think the 21mm will be "my" lens ;)

I like the perspective you are getting with the 25 mm. Interesting shots!! :) :)

Don't know whether it's really that, but I can see what looks like an outline of dried up liquid around the letter B in 'PUB' in the first image. Perhaps your 'rolling' the developer tank needs to be tuned a bit.

Otherwise, despite the grain, resolution looks good. I bet you can get mighty fine pictures out of that 25.

haha yes, I love Lucky bw film, its so cheap and fun to kick around, although the Era is better I think, Lucky scratches too easily. The developer on the other hand I have not had the best of luck, its a little harsh with highlights I think.

Joe, great shots.

Now that you have used it for a couple days, I have some questions.

1) Is the lens shade intrusion in the finder annoying or bearable?
2) Do you find that using the entire finder for the 25mm field of view is fine, or do you anticipate buying the 25mm finder?
3) Does the 25mm lens bring up 28mm framelines?

not intrusive for me.

i doubt i buy the finder. i think having used a 35 on the p for so long i sorta 'see' w/o looking too hard.

yes.

Hi, back alley
Thanks a lot for sharing the nice pictures!

To my eyes, the lens' perspective and the pictures it creates all look beautiful!
As a user of ZI + 50 planar, this one sweet lens is a very tempting one to go for.

So far, I considered 28mm as one of my favorite focal lengths that any comments convincing me to have ZM 25 instead (like the ones given in your current and previous threads) would be encouraging.. :)

BTW, this is my first posting on RFF..

welcome then to rff.

the 28mm focal length was starting to interest me more and more and that was what i originally thought i'd get. but the folks here convinced me that the litle extra was a good thing.
i'm glad i asked the question because i like this 25mm fov.
and i think it may actually be easier to use than the 28...too soon to know for sure.

Well that lens is a winner for sure! As far as the HP5/DDX combo goes, I think the grain can be improved, and the contrast as well. I'd be playing with agitation (less agressive), and maybe thinking of somewhat higher dilution as well. YMMV.

thanks earl.
i also think i agitate too often and too hard.
i ude the the 1:4 dilution so maybe the 1:9 is better?
i'll try that next.
i have maybe 20 rolls of hp5 left before i buy the delta 400.

Try the 1:9. I haven't; I've only used DDX once, 1:4 (I think) with Pan F+. I was enthused about it as Ken Norton, a photographer and darkroom technician I respect a lot, uses it as his standard soup. But I've since returned to the Church of Rodinal.

Or you could stick with 1:4 and just reduce agitation.

back alley

i'll play with it.
i have a couple bottles of rodinal here too that i should use.
thanks.
