"Nothing came easy," Parks wrote in his autobiography. "I was just born with a need to explore every tool shop of my mind, and with long searching and hard work. I became devoted to my restlessness."
"I became devoted to my restlessness."

The man was a great photographer, novelist and composer... Truly, a Renaissance man!
I was half-expecting this. Not long ago I read somewhere about him, and the article I read gave his age. First thing that came to my mind was "He won't last long..."
Sorry to see I was right. :(
Thanks for posting, Finder!

A "Breakthrough" artist in every sense of the word. He leaves behind the best thing
a person can leave--a remarkable legacy.

Don't forget he also made films.
His autobiography. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0873512022/sr=8-2/qid=1141794517/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-4542033-9564828?%5Fencoding=UTF8) .
Ya know, I thought he had already passed away for some time. I don't know why but I had that idea. Guess I was wrong. Sad to be proven wrong in this way.
There are some of his pictures and some interesting interviews here. http://www.pdngallery.com/legends/parks/mainframeset.shtml
I found it interesting. He was a black man born in 1912 for christ sake, think of the changes he's seen! And recorded!
I love "Shaft". Maybe not the greatest movie in the world but it's moody, fast and 1970s. :)

and he composed music. funky music, that is. to reach his age and leave behind such a legacy is quite an accomplishment -- judging from what he shared with his environment, he led a fulfilled life.
