Again with the TMX in Rodinal 1:100. I like this combination. This time it was 22 minutes with agitation every other minute...seemed to work better. I'll have to remember that. As for comments on some of them. Neon and Birds are my personal favorites from this roll, but I plan to print Bike Shadow in addition to both of those. I have no idea what that light anomoly is in Birds...it's just there.

"I have no idea what that light anomoly is in Birds.."

Steph, this looks like lens flare to me being the opposite side of the frame to the brightest part, the other white spots could be dust on the end element or on the neg when scanned.

What lens is this, Stephanie? It vignettes and fades almost like a pinhole!

cheers, Rob.

Stephanie Brim
03-04-2006, 00:58
Yeah, white spots are dust. I figure those will clean off when I print, so I left them on the negs to give character. ;)

I figured that it was a lens flare of some kind, but it's kind of a weird one.

The camera is a Lex35. I can't even find a photo of the one I'm using for you to look at...I'll take a photo of it later on...perhaps tomorrow. :)

Lex35, Google works miracles. That is a simple P&S alright...
Could the shiny line be a reflection of the body, like a shiny edge of a hood?

cheers, Rob.

Stephanie Brim
03-04-2006, 01:21
No. The one you came up with on Google is most likely not the one that I use. The one I use is black and the simplest of simple: one shutter speed, one aperture, and a plastic lens. I have no control over anything.

Peptonio, I think you are a bit harsh in your judgement. Stephanie may be a little scattered, but she is enthusiastic in what she does. Sooner or later she will settle on what she wants to do and stick with it. In the meantime it is no-one else's place to be telling her what to do. Give advice by all means, but there is no need for any form of admonishment.

Ps. Stephanie if you are into experimenting with cameras and film you might find this place (http://www.toxpose.com/forums/portal.php) quite interesting. ;)

I left the dust because I didn't want to clean up the negs right now...I'll do that before I print them. I'm using a point and shoot right now because I got in a rut again...getting myself out of it. Tonight I'll be going to Des Moines with my boyfriend and taking photos there. Some street shots, some street level shots, some candids, etc. I'll be doing that with the P.

And don't get me wrong, I've been shooting with the P. I just don't have anything developed from it right now. I wanted to get these done before I did the others because they were supposed to be for the point and shoot contest...but I don't need the snappy because I'm incredibly happy with the Lex35.

So thanks for all the kind words. And Andy, don't mind Pep there...this is his third incarnation, if I recall correctly.

Sorry, I have to disappoint you, I am neither any kinda reincarnation nor have I anything to do with that pepto ghost , excepted the fact that we have a similar opinion concerning your "activities" at the several forums where we have seen you.

But even if I were him it would not change anything , the facts stay and wouldn't be less true. The ignore option is wisely chosen , the only choice you still have I suppose.

Peppo

PS.: Better you take Polaroid for the self-nekkids which you want to sell here, this brings you easier over the break even line and outta your dept. And somehow it fits better to your style of shooting and to this sick idea of making some bucks.

Geez, I don't know, but Peptonio makes some valid points. It just seems like maybe somone might want to learn at least one process before going on to the next one. I remember reading in one of Stephanie's threads that she doesn't like to read about how to do something but just wants to experiment and see what happens. If that is the case, then why ask for help? My advice? Get a book on the basics, learn something, and see what happens.

Life is too short to worry about any of the stuff mentioned here. Keep on shooting. There are many websites to choose from when I feel to do some interesting reading, and this site has many forums to choose from, so no single posting ever annoys me for any reason.

You know, I can sometimes get into shaking my head over the flightiness that Ms. Stephanie all too often exibits (especially when I feel myself turning in Mrs. Grundy... ) Someother very good people I know here have real problems with her because of it. But even as I shake my head, I know d*mned well that I'm gonna end up doing something similar, just, feeping, because... :D

Myself, though, I like the energy. I like the ideas. Keeps my own frigging shooting from being just another f*cking "Kodak Moment". WTF? I don't care what the other idjits think. I just want to see many images from that J-3... ;) And I got my own reasons for that statement <LOL>

Fit's my old punk mentality to a fricking "T". And I'll keep doing what I can to help her keep being who she is, photographically. Even if it is a mosh pit of ideas... :)

Brian,

I understand the signature more as an ironic anticipation of the response he expects to get from certain folks here, I'd say his comment is definitely meant serious tho and leaving aside the aggressive ground shade it contains indeed a lot of valid points.

I have doubts if Peppo is really male, he/she sounds a bit like an female teacher
or personality trainer, maybe a military instructor ?
"WTF are you doing here !!!?? CON-CEN-TRATE !!!") :D
And there are significant elements that point out a specific female annoyance. ;)

Pepponia !! Confess !!!! :D :D

It is a pity that he(she) (peptonio, that is) uses an aggressive tone, because, there are valid points in there, i agree on that. Even if one gets annoyed or bored because of what he thinks about somebody's behaviour, should try to keep civil. Otherwise, the effect of his words will be exactly the opposite of the desired one.

Bertram2
03-05-2006, 03:40
Hey! I don't pick up any female characteristics in Peppo's posts - just plain testosterone-backed aggression ;)

Seems you have no clue how much testerosone can be in a certain type of female military trainer?!

As to the images...Stephanie, if you are interested in using a crap camera very ewfficiently, i recall a person called S.Liu on photo.net who used holga and pinhole holga cameras with colour transparency obtaining some excellent shots. I think he was the most succesful exploiter of camera defects without going too "artsy-fartsy". One recognizable "trick" he uses-used is to choose as subject a bright large coloured something in a dull background. No need for sharpness, low distortion or such exotic stuff.

Peppo, why not say it nicely with some tact? No one deserves to be harangued here. You wouldn't talk like this if you were face to face with a person (at least I'd hope not) so just because you're sitting at a keyboard, this does not give you licence to be nasty.

Bertram are you refering to 'nads of bronze? Yep wimmen have 'em too.

I once worked with a woman named Jarell (yeah, I know it sounds like aSuperman name). Anyway, she was once 86'ed from a bar in Virginia forheadbutting a guy in the nose for making a rude remark about her genderorientation. She was only 5.5 ft. in height. He, reportedly 5' 9", wentdown, broken nose and all.

She had the fabled 'nads of bronze.

That's balls of steel. :P I have balls of iron. ;)

I think one of the things that makes this place as good as it is has to be the diversity of the people who post here. I like the diversity.

Oh, and just so you know...I started with one film and one developer and used that almost constantly for six months. I'm pretty confident with both D76 and Diafine and regular development of most films. I'm testing out Rodinal now for slow films with the intent to also switch to it for faster films to get the grainy look that I like. I'm also experimenting with slow films because I want to see if I really want to stay with TMX as my go-to 100 ISO film.

So yeah, experimental...but not insanely. My stand development stuff is going to be put on hold for a while.

I don't get this thread. Someone posts something kind of rude to Stephanie, then everyone steps in to defend her -- by "insulting" the poster with accusations of being a woman. Lots of talk about balls, inside and out, taunting with a feminine version of the poster's handle and so forth. WTF? And you wonder why there are hardly any women in this forum.

Oh yeah, now I know I've just opened myself up to all kinds of "you don't have anything in the gallery", "you're a crap photographer", "you have balls" or "show us your tits" or some other kind of nonsense, but whatever.

dany_nyc

Hi,

I think that everyone was fed up with this person. I think he had probably insulted about half the forum in his time here :(

So, when someone is annoying here, everyone likes to pile on with geezerly recollections of barroom brawls and lady drill sargeants, and insult the offender with sexual taunts. Kind of a combined dyke/fag insult sandwich. Very amusing. I'm just saying that there's a reason why there are hardly any women in this forum. And it's not because women don't have cameras and take pictures.
