Well, the time has come to finally say that the Zeiss Black bodies will be arriving in 10-14 days. We could only SQUEEZE 4 out of our distributors. None are sold at this time at $1400.00 and FREE Freight to RFF members.
Ladies and Gentlmen is time to get ready. We would not take orders until we knew for sure that they were on the horizon. At this time we are not going to put them on our site until all the RFF members have a oprtunity to buy them before they arrive.
Please contact us directly for orders at 805-492-6548. Also let us know you are from the RFF.
Thank you,

oooh black...let's see if i sell both of the p's and maybe the m3 and both collapsible lenses...then i could have a matching set :)
or maybe just sell the car and then i could get some film too...
there's gotta be a way...
OK, Joe... I'm expecting Four Horsemen any day now.... and 99 to rejoin the Oilers, which is even more of a Sign of the Times.

i was 99% joking...but i have to admit that the zi is a different kind of camera.
if you allow yourself to enjoy it and not compare it to the p or m, it's a great camera.
and i'm not saying that it doesn't hold up in a comparison...it's a very different feel. lighter, smoother...unique.
it's modern and i'm discovering that that isn't a bad thing.
old dog...new trick
Now you're scaring me, Joe.

Will there be more silver ones in the future or is the production shifting to only black cameras? It's a long time before I can hope to get one, but if I do someday, well, I'm just not that fond of black cameras if there is a better, to me, option.
Thanks,
WIlliam

Now you're scaring me, Joe.
hopefully you will be able to sleep tonight frank. ;)
my brain is in overdrive sometimes when it comes to my gear.
i think i may be a little ocd.
the best thing about having only the p and screwmount lenses was the simplicity of decison making.
i now have 3 different cameras and, although related, 2 different mounting systems.
it gets overwhelming sometimes.
please, stop me if i'm revealing too much info for comfort...;)
if i had to choose one camera and one system right now (and thank the lord i don't), i would be at a loss. i could not do it. hell, i can't even sell off some of the 35's. i think the p went cause i had 3 and they were the same camera.
confusing times in edmonton (where it has been snowing since this afternoon and we are looking at about 8 inches tonight)

Take snow photos, Joe...ours just melted again. :(
Tony, this is very generous and loyal of you to offer those ZIs here first before making them public. We appreciate you and your sponsorship of this site. I know I'm definitely thinking long and hard about this camera and will contact you right away if I decide to go for it.

Go for it, Dgray. You won't regret it!
Just be sure that Tony sends you the Englsih version of the manual - & not the Japanese one. :D

I can't afford one, but I'd love one. Heh. I'm going to work on saving...perhaps this should be my camera for school instead of the M3. Either will turn heads, I suppose.

All my GAS will soon dissipate...in 10-14 days apparently. Ya see, the real problem is that I now work all of 5 minutes from Tony.

What do these look like? I don't think I've seen a black ZI, yet. Is there a link?

Does Cosina have an English site?
No, they don't. I was just posting that page for the picture of the black body. Given that they're one of Cosina's North American distributors, I guess that CameraQuest is the closest thing to an English site for Cosina that you'll find.
If you try http://babelfish.altavista.com & then type in www.cosina.co.jp where the ask for the url, you'll get a translation - although it's an awlward one at times.

Tony, why does a different color cost an extra $100? Is it a California thing? ;)

Well, I have always wondered why but they say that the supply and demand dictates the cost to us. As soon as they will be come more readily available the cost to us will go down and then to our customers. This has always been the way for distributers in the Far East.

Kyle and Huck, Thank you. Wow. I think the black is a better look on this camera. It takes on a different resemblance/look.
.
Does anyone know if the black is a black paint (lacquer) or more of an anodized black (like the M6)? It's hard to tell from these photos. Thanks.

Thanks for the straightforward explanation, Tony. So, it's "supply & demand"? What a radical idea! Hang around a while. Maybe it'll catch on. ;)

Not Black Paint, maybe Black anodized.
FWIW, I pulled this photo off the net. Looks nice to these eyes!
Not Black Paint, maybe Black anodized.
The finish may not be glossy, but this owner says it's black paint: http://www2.odn.ne.jp/reica-m8/page047.htm
Many old Nikon SLRs used a similar kind of matte black paint, more practical than the fingerprint magnets from Leica. :p
Wow, that pic posted by vol72 shows what a beauty it is in black; the small one on the Cosina site didn't do anything for me. If it hadn't been for this pic, I would have said I preferred chrome.
Hey, can we re-do the Beauty Contest all over and link to this photo of the Zeiss?

hello all,
i have seen this on the display shelf in one of the store in Hong Kong
it's just sexy and looks better than the chrome version (which looks so shiny to me) and make you want to go wild with the credit card
a subliminal thing or not, i just commited to buy a CL this morning... some sort of divertion maybe?
is anyone in the RF forum going to get one soon?
cheers!

joe... I did solve the black-vs.-silver problem and got one of each!
Of course, I was bankrupt for a looooooooong while (and still am, but for different reasons).
Hence, that's the only way! :)
As for Tony's offer... He's convinced me now that my next Leica purchase (in some 3 years) will be from his store! :)

...made for walkin'?
hello all,
i have seen this on the display shelf in one of the store in Hong Kong <snip>
So it's actually available for sale already?
Tony already has the black Zeiss camera listed available on his site ... only wish I could get some cold cash!
Tony said they are expected to arrive by the end of the week and a few might still be available for those who don't care about No Purchases in March... :p
