Yes..
It is true..
I will hopefully join the dark side soon ehehehehe :D
After selling my SLR kit (Canon A-1 + several FD lenses) I got some money and started thinking of getting a Leica. I wanna know what is all this fuzz about eheh :)
Never handled one ever, but after reading a lot, and thinking that my investment (if I dont like it) wont be lost (I can resell it at same price i guess), I started scouting the usual places :)
So hopefully i will receive one user Leica M2 + Summaron 1:3,5/35 mm this week or the next one! :)
I was expecting to buy only the body, and use my soviet glass with it (glass that I can only say good things about), but I saw this kit and decided on buying it, the extra money i had to spend on the Summaron I might get back if I sell it to get my economies back in track :) (if I can part with it after seeing it)
Oh well, now I can hardly wait to receive it, and post some photos of it here....
Had to share my emotions with all you comrades ehehe
Regards,
Sergio

you realize that this is the end of your life as you now know it...
Indeed. It's a bit like Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On?" ---only a tad expensive.
Welcome !!! :D
You'll enjoy, we all float down here ;)
Congrats, the M2 is a great camera and you can check a recent Summaron thread about its qualities.
Resistance is futile eh ? ;)
The power is strong on the dark side, Sergio. Welcome! You will never regret it...
/me fears so! :D
You can always fight your fear with a little GAS-attack on something classic.
:D
...started thinking of getting a Leica. I wanna know what is all this fuzz about...
The M-bodies are classics, and beloved by many of the people and cats here, but for me, the fuss is all about the lenses. They make delicious pictures.
I went Leica less than a year ago, and I do NOT regret it.
Congrats, Serio! You'll need to learn the secret Leica handshake now: As you extend your right hand forward, you simultaneously reach for your wallet with your left hand in preparation for emptying it of any cash or credit cards for subsequent Leica purchases. :)

Waitaminute...the very act of relinquishing your SLRs, to me, means you've renounced the Dark Side (finances notwithstanding, of course...)

Oh Well, Having been teasing Joe for the last few weeks, I have to put my hand up and come clean. There is an M6 Classic and a collapsible Cron somewhere between the US and the UK with my name on it.

Good on you, Kim! (Took you long enough.) :)
Congrats. However, you will be hopelessly poor from now on.

Excellent combo! Congrats Kim!

ARRIVED!!!!!!! :D
The camera is a beauty (a real user camera, but I like it with scratches ehehe)!
All seems to function alright, I had to align the rangefinder but now seems to work perfectly :) Shutter also seems ok, even on slow speeds. On slow speeds I after the shutter closes I still hear some mechanical sound (something like the sound the timer does), is this normal?
Unfortunately the Summaron has several pieces of dust inside the lens (but no haze).. wonder if they will show up or render the lens less sharp... (Is there a Summaron DIY CLA web page? If so please give me the adress :))
And here she is:
Congrats, Sergio! The mechanical noise you hear after firing the shutter at speeds around 1/15sec (kinda sounds like a steel ball bearing bouncing) is normal and an indication of a healthy shutter timer mechanism. (This is what I have read.)
Chances are you won't notice a thing with a few dust inside the lens. Just enjoy it and don't think too hard on this thing.

Oh well, I just shot a small test roll, and nothing seems to show up on the film (It is still drying so I cant see much anyway).. But apart from the dust, the apperture ring seems to be a bit stiff... a bit too much, is this normal ?
Apart from that, the lense is very beautyfull and very small :) It is a pitty it is not a fast lense, since I do shoot a lot at dusk and night ehehe (when I get out of work)..
hmmm I love the Leica viewfinder... I compared it to the Zorki-4 viewfinder (my largest and most bright finder until today) and they are two different worlds :)
ihihihihi
/me is very excited with his M2 :D
Congrats on the leica! Will it be replacing your Zorki Avatar?

Here is the first result from the test film, all seems to be ok :)
And the lens aperture aint that stiff anymore... i guess it needed some use :D
An example, please tell me if you spot something funny :)

Let me see...I bought an M3 body Feb. 10th (my first and only Leica), a take up spool on the 11th, a lens on the 12th, a light meter on the 15th and mailed a check for pbjbikes Summilux yesterday. Do I have the handshake down yet?
Maybe, maybe not. But you certainly have a thin wallet now and that is one of the qualifications. ;)
Welcome to the forum John! :)

Handshake? Sweet Jeebus! You're ready to be fitted for your hook!
(Er, black chrome hook. Wetzlar, not Midland.)

You guys are making me nervous. I'm watching four M series in My EBay. Is this the first step out of the clean light down?
It is. And the steps are steep. Descent is quick, and inevitable. :)

Ooh, delicious tremors abound.
I don't care about a meter, so is the M4 the one to look for? And what is an M4-P? I'm a real babe in the woods, Leica-wise. Be gentle with me.
I think I have a Summilux coming in the mail. So, please peek in on eBay item 6667677754. It's my liver.
Hell, I only need one.

Be gentle with me.There are many here much more knowledgeable than I on the older Leicas, but I believe an M4 is considered good. I think the M4-P followed the M4-2 which I believe had a beefed-up film transport mechanism to take a winder. I think....
