Lets here it from the Red Sox fans.
As a Yankees fan I am a little numb right now, but stand up and be counted.
sfaust, peter_n you guys are in the capital of Red Sox nation, what is the feeling in Boston?
After missing the NE gathering last week I ended up grabbing my camera this morning and went to Old Sturbridge Village today. As I walked around I wondered if it would be more approprate for me to cheer "1819" while I was there.
I looks like the best team is going to win this year, of course, if we could just get to game 7 on Halloween....

Well now that you have the Holga are you going to sell everything else!
Got 120?
Good luck, from a frustrated Cleveland Indians (now-non)fan!
I'm a Toronto Blue Jays fan, but when they don't make the playoffs (many years now), my backup team to root for is the Boston Red Sox. I really felt badly for them last year in the final game with the Yanks. This year I'm pulling for them all the way!
Gene
After such a long wait, all I can say is that its so sweet the way its unfolding. If they win tonight, its one hell of a comeback and post season sweep. Definitely one for history. If they loose, and we go all seven games and win, still a great series and victory. If we loose the next 4, St Louis will be the victor with a hell of a story behind their comback on the tails of the Red Socks comeback. A great story to tell their kids. Either way, it a great ride no matter what happens tonight, or in the next 4 games!
I just wish I could be there!! I hope somebody is putting in on film or in digits ;) (said as if I didn't know there were thousands of cameras documenting the games)

No, I think I will hang onto the other odds and ends that I have hanging around. :D
And I did just take stock, I have enough 120 for now even after shooting 4 rolls today.
And no peter_n, this didn't escape my notice :) I also need to call my niece, as I would swear, even bet a $100 thats her on the right in black. But what are the odds.....just no way

7 years in the US and I still have no idea if most team names I hear are relating to Baseball or American Football or Basketball :-)
2-3 years in Chicago did make me a Bulls-fan though and to this day Basketball is my favourite American sport.
Baseball makes me wanna fall asleep :)
Yes it's nice that the Red Sox are doing well. Baseball is a beautiful game - basketball makes me want to fall asleep... :)
It's nearly 8 o'clock and I know the Sox are playing the Cardinals but there's a match on the telly I just HAVE to see, Manchester United - Arsenal, I can't wait to see it!!! :D :D :D
The funniest sporting event I have seen recently was a Liverpool vs Newcastle match. It was a pretty poorly played game by both sides, but the announcers were a riot to listen to.

What would we do without lap-tops? I am watching the game, developing some T-Max 3200, and monitoring the RFF.
I grew up in Michigan and we had season Tiger tickets (my parents did). I was kind of a Tiger fan but from early on always had an affinity for the Cubs, so I can empathize with the Sox fans. It's been fun just watching records being broken and history being made -- enough of the "Curse" already, the poor Sox fans have suffered enough! Now, if only the Cubbies could...

P. S. Forgot to mention that my younger brother lived in Chicago for quite a while, before they installed lights at Wrigley -- man, there was nothing like taking in day games at Wrigley field, probably as close as I'll ever get to time travel:D
It's ManU two-nuffink Arsenal innit? I'll bet the Arse is as sick as a parrot! :D
I'm still waiting for the Seattle Mariners to make it to the World Series... don't let my location fool you :)
Happy Day! And done in the 100th World Series too!

That's a big deal, Frank. I hadn't heard that it was the 100th -- that makes it especially special (I always like tying those two word together). Congratulations to the Sox and all of their dedicated fans -- you guys certainly deserved it. And what a performance: back from a 0-3 deficit with the last game 19 to 8, win the next four with their backs against the wall every game and then to sweep an otherwise first-rate ball club (remember, the Cardinals had a pretty impressive record). Way to go Boston!

The kind of thing legends are made of.
Congratulations Red Sox !!!!!!!!!!
Curse... huh...what.. someone say something about a curse???
 :D
After the long drought, it sure was a hell of a way to win it all with style!!
I told everyone that if we lost tonight, I wanted St Louis to win the next 4, and do to us what we did to the Yankees. Just because it would be a great event for the books. BUT, I REALLY REALLY WANTED TO WIN TONIGHT!!! Lets not dismiss that :)

And win you did, in a big way! Congratulations to the players and the ever so patient fans -- the fans are the best (along with the Cubbies:D )

I feel especially happy for the fans. As a Toronto Maple Leaf hockey fan (last Stanley Cup in 1967) I can empathize with them!
My wife wept last night after the game was over - this time however they were tears of joy. This will give a great fillip to the whole of New England as the Sox are a regional team, and there is going to be a huge party in Boston to be sure. :)
The victory gives hope to others who are also trying to do the impossible like the Chicago Cubs who have been without a World Series win for longer than the Red Sox. Also a word of commiseration to St. Louis fans; you were just unfortunate to run into the Sox during a hot streak, better luck next year!
St Louis played very well indeed. They have nothing to be embarrased about!! As Peter said, they were just unlucky to meet Boston in the middle of a winning streak. It could have gone either way, like it has so many other times in the past!
BTW, how come I never see any other countries in the 'World Series' other than the USA ???? :D
When is the parade scheduled guys? Tomorrow? I am giving some considerations to going. I would only be able to be in the city for a couple hours, but it would be worth seeing the frenzy.
I would have to leave my Yankees gear home though ha?
Bummer, it looks like it will be Saturday, I won't be able to make it.
I think it is going to be Saturday.
BTW, how come I never see any other countries in the 'World Series' other than the USA ???? :D
Don't get me started... ;)
This would be an AMAZING street-photography opportunity!
That is what I was thinking.
Of course last night when the Police sent everyone home would have been too.
This would be an AMAZING street-photography opportunity!
I am ready to go, believe me. Take the 35mm and the 50mm and a couple of rolls of film and I'll be all set. :)
I'm really looking forward to seeing any results posted!
Frank to tide you over I don't know if you saw this (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/3635/password//sort/1/cat/500/page/1) but it was my first effort at a Red Sox crowd shot. Stephen seems to think his niece is in the picture... :)

Ahem!! Toronto Blue Jays, back to back World Series wins, 1992 & 1993 ...
Gene
I'm hoping that I can make it as well. However, due to a death in the family, need to attend a mass on Saturday or Sunday.
If its on Sunday, it would be great to meet up at some point at the parade on Saturday, if thats even possible!! With an estimated 5 million Sox fans for the parade, I doubt it would be easy unless we pinpoint an exact 10'x10' square space and time.
I know what cameras I'll bring. Just don't know what I'm gonna wear :D :D
I doubt its my niece, but man its got to be her sister then. The odds are just too great against it being her.

I'm genuinely happy for all my friends & relatives in Boston. :) They've waited a long time . . . although I really don't know anyone who's waited since 1918 . . . or even 1948. Actually, they don't seem to know how to react.
As a Yankee fan, I'm now happy as well to let them feel how it is when the shoe is on the other foot. I love to say things to them like:
"No National League team ever had a chance against you guys. You outspent all of them."
"Best team money can buy."
"You did it all with free agents. Nobody on the team came up through your farm system."
"There's a new Evil Empire in town now."
"With all the free agents you're losing, who will you go out & buy this year?"
They seem unaffected . . . lost in a fog of delerium. Congratulations to Red Sox Nation!!
Little known piece of trivia: The Red Sox are now third all time in number of World Series won!!!
And maybe the first two are the Yankees and the Cardinals in that order?
Alright Gene, North America. :) How come Cuba isn't allowed to play in the World Series - they win all the Olympic titles don't they? :D They're good, right? :D :D :D
Stephen would be great to meet up, but now I find my own participation may be at risk - apparently we have "plans" to visit someone. But, lets find out the day and route, you never know! :)

Did you ever watch any cricket?
Hey, watch it John! :) I particularly like the test matches that last for several days and end in a draws. Then everyone says how marvellous the match was and I say to myself - yes- why can't a sporting event end in ambiguity like the rest of life?
Makes sense doesn't it? Why does there have to be a winner and a loser every time? Why can't we all be winners? ;)
Peter_n, Great shot, that's what I'm talking about! If only all our shots could capture emotion that well. There's obviously a Cardinal fan right in the center of the crowd and the center of your picture - that's great! One RFF member's by-line is something like "a photograph must contain at least 1 thing, the humanity of the moment" and your shot does that very well!
It's almost not fair though, at a time like this at such an event, it's kind of like spearing fish in a barrel! Tons of people filled with emotion (happiness and sadness) mostly oblivious to another baseball fan with a camera. They don't know you're really a photographer!

Yes, Peter, it's the Yankees & Cardinals. :)
Just got back from the parade but didn't see Stephen there... ;)
Got a couple of good shots I think but will wait to post because the roll is being sent along with others to a lab in California for processing. It'll probably be a while before they come back.
The weather was lousy but the parade was great and the Red Sox players were clearly delighted at the reception. My camera got soaked but I kept the 35mm on all the time. Pointless to go to the 50, people were jammed up so close together that I could actually have done with a wider lens. Anyway, it was fun! :)

Peter,
Toronto Blue Jays 1992 and 1993 (it was a worrisome time here in the US;) )

Just got back from the parade myself. I did see you there Peter!! You were the male wearing a jacket, and holding a camera. Wasn't that you?? :D :D
I read your message last night, so I figured you weren't going to make it. Otherwise, I would have tried to meet up with you, even if only for a quick intro. Where did you end up? I was mostly around City Hall, Downtown Crossing, Common, and Quincy Market.
I got a number of shots that I think came out well. The film will need to be processed, but I also shot a bunch with the digital SLR. I've already edited those, and burned them off to CDs for the archives.
Lots of emotion there! Everybody was well behaved. Weather lousy. Lots of police, but everything very civil. I only saw a very small handful of idiots, but they didn't seem to cause any problems. I didn't feel there was anywhere near 5 million, however, that was only based on the size of the crowd around the end of the parade route. I would have expected the crowd to be twice the size it was for 5m. I had little trouble getting in or out of town, as it was like any other rush hour day. The mess. WOW! But they had it under control within a couple hours after the parade. But it won't be quite right for a few days.
I found it amusing that when I used the RF I was noticed a few times, but generally dismissed. When I used the SLR, I was noticed much more and everyone was acting right to the camera. Everyone wanted their photos taken, and I was asked a number of times who I was working for. I guess they want to be on the front page of the Boston Globe :) When I had my dinky digital P&S, nobody even glanced my way once. Probably the best stealth street shooter I have.
I also found it interesting that when the SLR was spotted, the mens testrone leves rose significantly and they acted accordingly. Yet the women just seemed to grab their female friend, arms locked, victor sign flashed, and asked me to have their photo taken. Hmmm... Whats up with that :)
Had a good time. Walked about 10 miles. Time for a nap!
Oh yea, got home and my 50mm Summicron was waiting for me. Why didn't it arrive yesterday so I could see if it was sealed well from the rain!
Stephen I had no idea that I was going to be able to go until this morning, and I had very little time to spend there. I live within walking distance of Fenway Park, and there was no way that I could get on a subway train (people were packed in the cars like sardines in a tin) so I walked down to Boylston St. in the Fens and took my pictures there near a pub. Then I walked back to a subway station and got a car home immediately.
I did get wet and so did my camera but it was fun and people were pretty much well behaved. What happened to me was no reaction to my RF camera, but lots of requests to take pictures of people with their cameras, with which I happily complied.
I think I got maybe one or two good shots - didn't take that many and it will be a while before I send them off to be processed - I'm giving A&I Labs a try with the processing...
Good luck with the Summicron - that's one sharp lens (literally speaking)! :)
Is 5 million the official estimate, that is the entire population of New England isn't it? I will pop on New England Cable News to see some coverage, I actually forgot about it yesterday as I was goofing around with the boy (I know, dumb Yankee fan). Glad that you got to enjoy the day.
Hey Steve, post some of your DSLR shots, we won't tell anyone how they were made. Love to see them.
Peter, we can always meet up at some point in the future. We are close enough.
I was at City Hall plaza while there. I bet you had far more people in the Fenway area that at City Hall. I also think the press regarding not having a rally at the plaze turned some away from that area. It was still a good crowd.
Subways crowded? Thats an understatement. Here is one shot I fired off while on the subway. It just caught my eye. I fired from the hip with the SLR that was around my neck and just kind of lying in my lap. The subway noise was more than enough to hide the shutter/autowind.
Rather than post the non RF shots here, I'll just provide a link to either my Photo.Net gallery, or a web page I'll create.
Fuji S2 Pro, 1600 ISO. I didn't do anything to the image, just shrunk it.
Hey! It's a photo booth repairman!
Here are some of the images. I believe all were shot on a Fuji S2Pro digital SLR, or on my smaller P-100 digital P&S. I haven't done anything other than resize them. Some are also soft as I turned sharpening off so I can post-process then later.
Most everything was shot handheld in heavy overcast and rain. I used anything from ISO400 to ISO1600, and slow shutter speeds and wide apertures. You can see this info in the EXIF data which can be accessed by the little camera icon at the upper right of the image if you want the nitty gritty.
http://www.giantscalerc.com/rff-boston/index.html
You'll notice I spent more time photographing the environment, than the parade itself. Most of the parade stuff is on film which is out for developing.
If there is a photo that jumps out at you, let me know. I always like the feedback, especially on what people feel are keepers.
Wow Stephen you took a lot of pictures! I only took about a dozen or so... but then I was home by 11:30am! :)
The ones I personally liked were:
boston-DSCF3709 Pretty scary - looks like you were on the track but I did like the composition - looks like the train was leaving.
boston-DSCF4001 I liked the couple taking a break from the crowds - seemed to accentuate the throngs more than the actual picture of people 20-30 deep
and I liked the ones at the end in the station (Alewife?) with all the angles and asymmetry.
