Polarizing filters with xpan

Hey all,


Does anyone use a polarizer with their xpan?....
I realise its a rangefinder so your not actually lookin through the lense to adjust the polarization, although i have heard of ppl using polarizer filters on rangefinders.


Just curious as to peoples methods of over-coming this difficulty??

You can either buy two identical polarizer filters and then keep one on your lens and the other in fron of your eyes.

I thought about the Robt. White device. In the ideal, that is the solution.

On the other hand, I have my B&W polarizer that does very well. Hold the polarizer up near to the camera and turn it toward the subject. Then turn it clockwise until you achieve the desired effect.

Note where the top dead center (TDC) of the filter is (maybe with a pencil mark?) and screw it onto your lens so TDC is in the corresponding position on the lens. If it is a B+W thin filter, the hood will still fit on the lens but make certain that the filter is still TDC after applying he hood.

The meter meters TTL so you are good to go and your wallet is still as thick. ;)

I'm using the 45mm and the 90mm with the Leica Tri-Elmar (2d version) polarizer adapter # 14286 (E67/E49).

Together with a 67mm slim SIGMA EX Polarizer (and a generic 67mm Hama lens cap to protect the filter when not in use).

You can see the polarization trough the viewfinder, the adapter and the filter, on the side of the lens.

But usually, all I do is to point the little arrow engraved on the side of the polarizer filter in direction of the sun. It never failed.

The STEPS doesn't offer a 49mm adapter. You will have to find a 49mm to 55mm or a 49mm to 60mm adapter first.

The Leica adapter for the 2d Tri-Elmar was made for a lens with 49mm filter thread.

I have both the STEPS and the Leica # 14286. I prefer the later with the 45mm and the 90mm.

With the 30mm, the STEPS and a 58/60mm should work too.
