this is a whine, plain & simple.
i realize my bad day is nothing compared to the real worlds's problems, but sugar is tired of listening to me.
work sucks but yes, i do still have a job, so i can live with it.
the zeiss has to go back to popflash cause the rf is way out at infinity.
i tried it again today but focussing on a point waaaaay off in the distance and it's off.
sure i have a few other cameras i can use but this was a new toy...
the m3 did not show today. i didn't really think it would but a guy can hope.
same with the 50/1.2
ok, that's it!
please don't leave me nasty posts about how spoiled rotten i am.
i am already aware of that and it did not stop me from posting this.

Shucks, that sucks. On the bright side, my R3A is A-okay :D
your support is heartwarming frank.
Joe: My day was uneventful until mid-afternoon, when all hell broke loose. Well, a couple of issues got dumped in my lap, one of which is really the result of a sales rep who is a PITA with a capital P-I-T-A. So tonight was not "have a good but cheap red" night, but big friggin pitcher of margarita night, washed down with comedy night on CBC. I'm feeling better now.
Shoot with a P tomorrow. Life is good.

I had a good day. My IIIc arrived and it's in nicer condition then I hopped for.
Sorry to hear about the Zeiss Joe. Nothing worse then getting something new and finding out something is wrong with it. Look on the bright side, you have other things to look forward to, the M3 and the 50, and the Zeiss will be replaced or repaired.
I didn't get the P today, either! I was bummed, but tomorrow is another day!

I feel your Pain.
The S3-2000 came in. Took off early (had extra hours from before in the week) to open it up and play with it. The UPS box was big enough for the Camera box and Boxed Case.
Opened it up, no case. It's on the invoice. Shipped 1 of 1. No case. Sunday I'll give them a call, either send the case or take the camera back. I'm not using this one in an old S2 case with a Notch cut out for the Self-Timer.
And everyone will be pleased to hear that I will not be shooting with it Nude.
Tough news - after all the anticipation etc. this has to be a sucky letdown. :(
Please don't read any of the "Puts" thread tonight! ;)

There's not many problems a decent bottle of wine, a fridge full of film, and a free Saturday won't fix. I've diagnosed myself with women-stress and a coming week of car repairs. The prescription? 1 bottle 2004 Lange pinot noir, sleep til there's four digits on the clock, then follow with an afternoon of Canonet shooting with HP5+. Ahh, the stress is lifting already.. Oh nope, that's my glass.. and down the hatch we go :D
But seriously Joe.. all we really need are the love of friends and family (RFF friends count!). Count yourself a lucky man/woman if you have that. Have a better day tomorrow!

Joe, no snarky comments from me. I know the feeling of the "pile on", and I'm particularly regretful that the Z-I has to go back. But with a bit of luck, it'll be turned
over to some well-trained techs who will hand-adjust the rangefinder, and you may
wind up with the most diligently QC'd Z-I out there.
I am a long way from being a f****** Pollyanna, so these are not empty platitudes from some grinning fool. They're from a frowning fool...

i love it all!
i do wish the camera was easy to adjust - like my p is - but i hate to mess with brand new!!
i'll play with it tomorrow and then get hold of tony to see what to do.
what i really hate is that thr rf is out in the first place and if it is a common thing then all those leica guys are gonna start yelling, 'see, we told ya!!'
wait a minute...i'm gonna be a leica guy again soon.
i feel a bout of schitzophrenia comin' on...

Well, I did watch "Run Lola Run" again tonight, and it almost elicits a smile.
Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.
I shall post my rant here, too. Apparently my money order hasn't gotten to KEH yet...I sent it Priority on Monday. So now I'm worried that it isn't going to get there and I'm going to have actually, for the first time, do the whole lost mail thing. Sucks.
No reason to send a MO via Priority. Priority is for small packages that you want to get there in 2-3 days! It's much quicker than the Parcel Post alternative for packages.
First class mail is the way to send letters (i.e. MOs). Same time as Priority - much less postage!
i tried it again today but focussing on a point waaaaay off in the distance and it's off.
Sorry to hear that.
BTW ... how far off is waaay off?
My Bessa R is off at infinity, but dead on at closer focus (I've checked from a metre to about 15 metres). I suppose I should send it back for adjustment, but I've figured that once you're in the infinity range it's not really going to matter that much.
Peter
"No reason to send a MO via Priority. Priority is for small packages ..."... At the same time, it can also be used for things you might need to track, like lost MOs. However, that 2-3 day often turns into 4-6, so don't fret yet. Could turn up on it's own. Good luck Stephanie.
joe ~ that's bad news man... sorry. But hey, good for you. Go on out and shoot a roll with it anyway. Taking bad pictures with a new camera is better than staring at it on the shelf. It's a rule at my house. When a camera arrives, I open the box, unpack it, load it with film and shoot the roll, no matter what. The next week, when the lens arrives... I shoot another roll. (Often, the roll WITH the lens turns out better...)

and yes, customs again but coming from tony, they only held it for 7 hours and not the customary 7 days.

i will of course be sending mine to him.

Joe, if it makes you feel any better I dropped my Pentax 50/1.2 yesterday. Doesn't *seem* damaged, but it is being packed for a CLA today. I suppose it's lucky it wasn't an old Super Tak with radioactive glass - that might have caused a small nuclear incident :-0

I read the whole thread with a feeling there would be a silver lining.
Btw, we seem to be in the same trend of luck
The M2 has not shown yet, I find that strange since XpressPost has been usually extremely fast, 4 or 5 days to get here. If it doesn't do it today (priority mail here is usually delivered on saturdays) I'll inquire a tracking number from the seller and try to find out what's happening.
Hope the 1.2 shows up soon, the parcel I sent the same day to Dave reached him yesterday. That said, for certified bigger parcels regular time is more around 10 days. And then there's still Canada Customs...
Waiting is a pain.

Joe, I'm glad it all came down to a happy ending with Tony's PM and an offer of a replacement camera! :)
I know the feeling... One of my M6TTL went back to its evil ways and showed a big light leak in two slides taken on Jan 14. Of course, the Leica repair done last year is still under warranty, so I sent it back to NJ right away after seeing the faulty slides.
Regarding the RF, joe... a small, hairline difference at infinity is still a workable condition. All my three bodies have it, but then, at closer distances, their RFs are dead on.
Solution? In the rare ocassions you shoot at infinity, close down the lens. Not by a lot, just down to f5.6 will do.
But then... you already know all these things! :)
Again, I'm glad there's a silver lining to all of this! :D

Hmmm not so good. Anyone following the "Zeissfan" blog also knows his had a similar problem.
Hope they get this sorted or some of you might have a white elephant on your hands.
Joe I'm sorry to hear about your problem. Agree with your assessment of Tony - he treats everyone the same. Below is a shot of a "delivery" I got a couple of weeks ago - "delivered to your door" said the UPS web page but two days later this sorry package turned up in my driveway. This was my film development kit from B&H. UPS have been silent about a refund...

Looks like the UPS driver left it in your driveway and then backed up over it. I've never seen such a disaster. Alternatively, perhaps a passer-by decided to open it to see if there was something he wanted and left it there as there was not.

i feel ok, really.
i took the camera out this morning to the local farmer's market.
what a treat. it is much quieter than the p, of course the case adds to that also.
i had no problems with the wind or lack of feedback. it felt like the film was travelling and i hope it was;).
feels good in the hand.
i just have to send this one back and tony will be sending out another.
with any luck, the m3 will show this week along with the 50/1.2 and i will have 'new' toys to play with again.
not so bad really...

Think positive, you could have a Leningrad, with a viewfinder way off and trouble with film transport. It is the only camera I have with sprocketless transport or was it senseless transport?
See, when my MP went off to Solms, I just picked up a Smena SL and I'm a happy person. Tonight I will update the film from Orwo NP 20 to APX 100.

If possible, check the camera with two lenses. See if the rangefinder is out with more than one lens. It's possible that the cam on the back of the lens might be out. Otherwise, return it.
I place this fault entirely with Cosina, as I believe Cosina was responsible for the issue with my camera. Zeiss needs to press Cosina harder to improve quality control with particular attention to the rangefinder.
