I just bought one of these on Ebay and I wonder if I have been lucky. Does anyone have any pictures in a gallery taken with one?

Incidentally, some of you know that my Leica M6 is a black one. Will I be treated roughly by Leica snobs?

No. Only by hard core extremist LHSA members. Rumour has it they employ black helicopters.... :p

There were 2 hovering over the building where I work today - if I don't post in the next 2 hours send a search party!

If in good condition the 90mm f/4 Elmar can take great images. One bit of advice though; use a hood! They do tend to flare otherwise.

I do not have any scanned from the Coated 9cm F4. I found it quite good; replaced it with the much more expensive Tele-Elmarit. Found the latter at a good price and traded the Elmar to an RFF member. It was only because I use the earlier uncoated version. I like it a lot.

Never known anyone here to make fun of an M6.

"... Incidentally, some of you know that my Leica M6 is a black one."What? Black body/white lens? Boy, what you M-users won't do... and probably parade it right out in public too, I'll betcha!

Congrats on the lens grab! Though mine is the uncoated LTM flavor (recently acquired) and I've only taken a few shots with it, I can already tell it's a definate keeper. 90mm looks like just enough FL to make it interesting IMO. Fire at will and enjoy!

This (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=16518&cat=500&ppuser=1267) was taken with a 90/4. A good wee lens if you can get round the speed (or lack of).

Nice picture Daveozzz! It's got me looking down the road for the postman (and it's 8.30 at night where I am). Thanks to everyone else too. I like this forum - there aren't too many places on the internet where the sense of humour is so sharp but the passion for the images is there too.

Just recently got one of these uncoated and have used it a little bit. Nothing scanned yet, but very nice. It handles well - a surprisingly small lens to me.

Plus today I added a 135/4.5 Elmar with a win on Ebay. 2 uncoated Elmars down, IIUC, 3 to go... :D Though I doubt I'll get the 105 anytime soon <LOL>

Mine was a silver one too that I used on a black bessa... definitely 0/10 for style but certainly used to attract a lot of attention with the thing!

I just got one this week too! Supposed to be a good lens. Mine is chrome and is coated. If you dig around on the net you can figure out from the serial number what the age is and whether it is coated. I think post-war, or so, they were all coated, but am no expert.

Haven't figured out where I am going to get a hood that will fit . . . any ideas for us folks?

By the way, lushd, I lived in St. Albans 20 years ago. Nice place.

I uploaded one of the half-dozen test shots I've taken with mine. A not too exciting shot, but ...

...shot on a dreary day close to wide open IIRC.

Find an A-36 clamp-on filter that's bad and remove the glass. Then buy a step-up adapter that is 39mm-to-whatever (43, 46 or 49mm). The adapter should press-fit over the A-36 filter. Buy a hood of the size to fit the adapter and you're in business. I have two such rigs that I use for my Elmars in all focal lengths. They work quite well and are inexpensive when compared to buying the Leitz factory hoods. An adjustable FIKUS hood, for example, fits the 50, 90 & 135mm lenses and routinely sells for more than $50.

Talking about inappropriately matched Elmars you've reminded me of THIS (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mtokue/65841684/)

Brilliant...

I've got a black Zorki.1 I use white lenses on. I'm not a real stickler for color co-ordination. I like bodies / lenses that work together well so the ease of use and results kind of skew my opinion about whether this or that "looks right." IMHO though... different strokes...

But yeah, daveozzz, that Nikon definately makes you take a second look. "what-the...?"

Yup - will post a picture of the beast when it arrives. It can go with the Zenit case very nicely, I hope.

St Albans is cool as well! There's some (digital, arghh!) shots on my website.

I checked out the pics of St Albans -- very nice. One of them is of the Red Lion, right? Great old pub.

Yup - my family worry about the number of pubs that appear in my pictures. Incidentally St A is great for cemeteries too!
