All right! This is so cool. Have you gotten your case from Luigi yet? The day I ordered mine I commented that his gift pushed me to go with him sooner rather than later and he said it had shipped that day, so... ?

Hey, Joe! It's going to be +9C tomorrow in Edmonton---1 degree warmer than Vancouver. :)
Start by photographing the postman on your doorstep, it will make for some nice street pics, and no fill-in flash! ;)
Hey, how nice. It's in my old home town.
And, surely you will keep us updated. I doubt that you'll miss a beat. We are all looking forward to your reactions.
Good luck to the camera's journey.

Lucky dog!
Canada customs (or whatever they call themselves now) held a camera I imported from the UK for 3 weeks, just to charge me $2.65 duty, incorrectly I might add, after reviewing the customs schedule.
Of course, I have filed the appeal to get back my lousy two bucks from the SoB's ;)

frustration...so far the usps website tracking has no new info for me.
JoeFriday
01-25-2006, 17:50
I can't think of a single time that a USPS tracking number ever provided any info for me.. I have no idea why the post office claims to provide that service
but then, I suppose it's just a money maker for them.. they charge a little more and don't bother to actually do it.. much like their Express Delivery, which is handled exactly the same as their regular delivery.. in fact, I've often had Express Delivery take longer
back alley
01-25-2006, 17:52
well thanks brett, i feel so much better now...;)
I don't think that the USPS offers actual tracking. I think it is simply a delivery confirmation.

"Track & Confirm by email is an online feature that saves you time by allowing the United States Postal ServiceŽ to send current delivery status information on your mail piece. There are two options: email all activity to-date or email all future activity.
Email all activity to-date will provide a single email to each recipient stating the current delivery status information.
Email all future activity will generate an email any time we receive a delivery or delivery related event (such as attempted, refused, returned to sender, or forwarded"
'To check on the delivery status of your package, please go to Track and Confirm at www.usps.com.'
hhmmm...
This tracking thing was a bogus "competitive advantage" gimmick started by the evil Mr. Brown (aka UPS).
Reality is that all their system does is tell you when the item moves from one truck hub to another.
I won't buy into anti-USPS bias anymore. Ragging on the PO is old school and out of touch. Their Priorty and Express stuff is done with joint partnership services from FedEx (so don't ya' think that UPS is "bad mouthing" on the web?)
Shipment to CDN may add a few days - but it's far, far better than Mr. Brown and his evil brokerage fees!
BTW: To those "dark siders": How dare you think otherwise! No, I do not work for USPS or FedEx etc. TOTAL DISCLAIMER :D :D

JoeFriday

my experiences with UPS has always been extremely good.. never had a problem with delivery and their tracking system is often updated hour-by-hour.. I know exactly what day a package will arrive, and can usually predict within a half hour of the brown truck arrival
on the other hand, I find USPS to be completely indifferent to customer needs and problems.. they claim to provide services that my experience has shown to be nothing more than lip service.. I would always choose UPS over USPS if the package is important
Lately I found that USPS tracking of certified mail was very slow in being updated. It took the system 3 days to show the confirmation of delivery of a letter.
Maybe this is more than certified mail, but I'm not sure how they track back on an international delivery. My bet is you'll have the camera for 2-3 days before USPS tracking shows the status online.
PICS PICS PICS!!!

You are wrong about EXpress Mail. My guy stops the truck in front of my house for express dely, then goes to the end of the block, parks the truck, and does regular mail.
Your carrier must be lazy.
I can't think of a single time that a USPS tracking number ever provided any info for me.. I have no idea why the post office claims to provide that service
No, they really do provide it -- it's just that (like FedEx and UPS) they only scan the package at transfer points. So, if the package is in transit for three days on the same truck, it won't have the opportunity to get scanned again until it's unloaded and put on a different truck.
FedEx may appear to provide more tracking data, but I think that's mostly because they update their website several times per day, whereas USPS (and UPS, I think) only do one update every evening.
That's frustrating when you're trying to follow the progress of a shipment, but I'd have to say that when you pay for the same service level, USPS packages seem to actually arrive about as quickly as the competition.

my heart skipped a beat for a second when i got home.
there was a notice saying a parcel was waiting at the local postal station.
but then i turned it over and saw that it did not have any money owing on it.

my auto up for the 50/1.5 was here and required a sig before pick up.

01-26-2006, 20:46
i am torn truly.
my history has not allowed for the owning of multiple systems.
when i have changed from one to another i usually had to sell off the old, add some $$ and then buy the new.
owning 2 systems may freeze me in place.
i have the benefit of using all my lenses though with the use of adapters so this may help.
for now, i am seeing myself use the canons when i want 2 cameras along for the ride and 2 or 3 lenses also.
i see the ikon as the loner, just me, one camera and one lens. back to basics with the latest camera out there!
ironic...?
if i can swing it, then the zm 28 and 50, down the road of course.
somewhere along the way, i just might sell one of the canon bodies because i'm thinking one of them might not get much use.
but then, who the hell knows...')
joe
wlewisiii
01-26-2006, 21:04
joe, the lenses will all still work - that's the beauty of the adaptors. As for the bodies, well, yes you might decide to sell one to get back down to a number you're comfortable with. But don't look at them as being anything other than complementary cameras. While you can't use the ZM lens on the P's, every Canon lens you have will work on the ZI.
I've rarely kept many cameras as I've moved along. But even as I've mostly moved to Canon LTM, I've kept my first Kiev and that pre-war Sonnar. There will always be times when you need something different. I think you'll find that as much as you enjoy using the ZI (and I do believe you will), you'll still find plenty of reasons to shoot the P's.
You may need to get a second or third life, but that's a different problem... :D
