Hello, I wound rate it as being excellent, though I've had some cases of flare. Don't hesitate ;)

I've got 2 - Kiev mount and L39. Both are sharp and contrasty. Definitely worth the money. There's a shot on my gallery from my L39 one (it's the deserted house in Ireland).

I just bought one that arrived Thursday, It's my first wide-angle for a rangefinder. I've already shot two rolls and am quite pleased with it, I'm trying to teach myself hyperfocal focusing so one of the rolls I shot without using the rangefinder and for the most part they came out pretty good, thanks to it's decent depth-of-field, the scale is so much easier to use than a normal lens anyway. I think it's going to be my main lens from now on.

I've got two in Kiev mount, a 1966 silver and a 1975 black. Seems to me that the black one is much better than the silver counterpart. :)

J12 is worth the modest sum you are likely to pay for it. J12 in Kiev mount is said to be better built than the LTM version.

I've shot one roll with my Nikon S2. Sharper than the Nikon 3.5cm F3.5, not quite as sharp as the 3.5cm/2.5. Of course it cost 1/8th as much. I did adjust the lens module with a loupe to make it agree with the Nikon's RF. That will probably not be necessary on a Kiev.

I have a newer black J-12 in LTM. It is my favorite lens at this point.
You can check this example (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=24028&cat=500&ppuser=1931) and and another example (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=12898&cat=500&ppuser=1931) from my gallery to see how it performs

I just emptied out the camera fund on a Bessa R and CV 35mm lens so I have to wait a while before I get a J-12 for my Kiev, but, believe me, another J-12 is in my future.

Just purchased one on e-bay today with the Kiev mount, looking forward to trying her out, seem like all the reports are favorable for this lens.

The J12 flares sometimes, but that isn't an issue most of the time. The last time it flared was when I took a picture of a guy pointing a DC P&S at me with flash.

The lens is sharp with little distortion. A problem may be the rear element. However, you can always be more careful.

Jupiter-12 can flare spectacularily. Not every other shot of course, mostly with strong light sources in. Perhaps an extra hood could help somewhat.

I totally agree with the flare problem... it has caused me quite some deceptions

Interesting... At display resolution pictures by dlridings @f2.8 look actually at least as good as my Oly's OM 35mm f2.8 wide open (which is more than acceptable).

I love my J12, great lens. I agree it does flare at times but not enough to put me off using it a lot. IMO its (and the J8 50mm) a must have if your into the Soviet RF's

Hi Daniel,
Which of the Kiev models are you so happy with.I only have a Fed 4 plus an Industar 61,and a recently purchased Jupiter 8,which I am awaiting results from.I am looking to add another FSU r/f,but had not considered a Kiev.
Brian.

My Jupiter-12 was flares in 3 ou 4 times. But I can tell in what situations this happend. I took pics agains light sources expecting flares but the flares not appears.

In clean blue skies, this lens give a very beautiful polarizer like effect.

In the first picture I had a spectacular flare, the sun was behind my!
In the second picture I had a spectacular sky effect.
