37 minutes.
Kinda tempting...
But I really want a 90/2.8 or thereabouts.
Thanks, Joe! :)

Urk. Talk about an impulse bid. I've been meaning to get a LTM camera of some kind and I like that length of lens, but I hadn't gotten that far. Guess I'll just have to buy one if I win it...
edit - it would work on a Zorki 6?

Is that typical for a Canon lens set? Seems like a good deal, with the finder and the original hood. Recently I had to pay more than I cared to for an 85/2 Sonnar that I really didn't want or need just to get the original Zeiss hood -- I think I should sell everything and buy a Canon;)

now i'm really depressed, i didn't notice the hood!
that's a very good price for lens, finder and hood.
at kevin's camera the hood would cost more than all that. i think they are pricey to begin with but they seem to have some very nice stuff.
i think sonnar's have always been more costly than canon's but i really haven't paid that much attention.

Looks like a decent chunk O' glass, but will it deliver better sharper images than my Holga?

Isn't Leica glass, just rebranded Cosina rejects?

Just curious: does the Leica lens really excel over a Zeiss 85/2 Sonnar? I really know little of the Leica lenses and am genuinely curious. Thanks!

I use both Zeiss and Leica glass - and they are both capable of achieving amazing results.
Leica glass is expensive and apart for the brand mark-up the main reason is a LOT of R&D that enabled Leica to produce the best 35mm rangefinder lenses ever produced.
If the Zeiss Sonnar 85/2 or Leica Summicron 90 or Summilux 75 is 'the better' lens I don't know. These are all high quality lenses that are capable of producing amazing result. Leica often do win when shooting wide open though where the lens design really shines.
Some somehat biased opionions here: http://www.kbcamera.com/imagequality.htm
I love the Zeiss glass on my Hasselblad and consider the Planar design to be an excellent performer.
You really can't go wrong with either.
Personally I've never been a huge fan of Cosina but then again I also never really liked Nikon SLRs - so sometimes it just comes down to personal taste :)

The Planar design has been around since the mid 1890s and is the most copied/plagiarized lens in the world.
I'm still not sure why they didn't make a 45mm or 60mm Planar for the Contax G series. According to my big book of optics, the Planar design beats the Sonnar design at the normal focal lenghts.

The 45mm G lens is a planar and then there is the 35mm, too
Opps... I must be getting old...
Sorry I thought the 45mm Contax G was a Sonnar. :(
I seem to remember a 35mm camera system using the Sonnar rather than the Planar for it's standard lens.

The 135 that sold is the early F4 version; the 135 f3.5 improved optically and is the more desirable lens for use. The F4 is more desirable to a collector. This one looks like it is going to Japan. The Nikkor 135 F4 goes for a fortune compared to the optically superior Nikkor 13.5cm F3.5 lens.
The 8.5cm F2 Sonnar was "THE" lens in its day. My Nikkor 8.5cm f2 holds its own against any of my newer optics. It is a copy of the Zeiss lens. The Sonnar is supposed to be sharper than the original 90mm Summicron, but the latter may be more pleasing for portraits as the vintage Leica glass usually produces less "harsh" contrast.
Many "new" optics carry the names of the vintage lenses, but are a radically different optical formula.
Honu-Hugger, if the 8.5cm f2 is "unwanted and Unneeded", you can always place it for sale/for trade here! Or just send it to me! I will be glad to compare it with the Nikkor lens! I assume it is in Contax mount?

Rollei 35S and 35SE, I prefer the Tessar and have a 35TE :-)
And as far as I know, the jupiter 8 is a Sonnar clone

AFAIK, the Sonnar was a very popular design due to its excellent flare resistance even for fast lenses like the 50mm f/1.5 The planar, even if considered sharper, was more flare-prone, therefore its rise begun with the (multi)coating technology only.
Once somebody posted on photo.net a link to a very very nice description on these lens designs - brief historical, brief explanation about the design, brief evaluation. I can't seem to find it back; should have bookmarked, me stupid.

The Contax II and IIa's were available with 50 f/1.5 and f/2 Sonnars as their standard lenses, but I doubt that you are that old, Stu:)
I never considered a Planar/Sonnar comparison before. I know from experience that the Sonnar was an improvement over the Tessar (in most situations) that Zeiss also offered earlier with the Contax. I also use to shoot with a 50/1.4 Planar when I owned some Contax SLR gear and it seemed to be an exceptional lens (nice color and bokeh).
I have a 150mm Sonnar and a 120mm Planar for a 6x6 camera, maybe it's time for a comparison...hmmmm

I should clarify that: unwanted and unneeded because I already have an 85/2, but I've looked for years for an original hood for it (began to lose hope of ever finding one). Finally found one, but I had to buy the lens along with it.:(
Yes, it is in Contax mount and I will be pleased to make it available here if anyone is interested. It is on its way to me now from Australia, hopefully I should have it next week.

That would be about what I paid for my Nikkor 8.5cm f2 with the case and two-part lens hood a while back. I have one in 'C'ontax and one for S-Mount.
Any interest in a Black Nikon F2 w DP1 in EX condition?
