Shhh...not a word to Joe but over on the "Back Alley not allowed to read this!" thread we are very secretly raising funds to buy a small gift for our most deserving moderator, Back Alley Joe. Information regarding the gift and how you can contribute can be found on that thread along with periodic updates of how close we are towards our goal. Please give generously!!!
Link to "Back Alley not allowed to read this!" (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=203646#post203646)
Link to Nick R.'s Payment Option Page (http://www.columbia.edu/~nr6/rff.html)
We do not want anyone to miss the opportunity to donate if they wish which is why I am posting a second thread -- however this only serves as a general announcement. Please direct all donations and inquiries to the "Back Alley not allowed to read this!" thread, but post some nonsense here every once in a while to keep this thread bumped up on the page. Thank you all!!!

is there any way we can be more obvious about what we're doing here? now that Joe can clearly read the title of this thread and figure out what the other thread is about?

I was going to say the same thing - If I was Joe I'd be all over these threads like a chubby kid on smarties :D

Brett , it's a good thing this thread was posted. I don't read threads that sound sort of clubby if you know what I mean. I wonder how many others may have deliberately stayed away from the thread?
Normally if I'm keeping it quiet , I use a PM. I've done that successfully on occasion. So I wasn't expecting this other thread to be 'secret' more a 'hook' to lead into a general discussion. Etc etc. So now I have to read the thread... I'm on it. I think Joe might already know tho after all he has a job as... moderator. :-)
I'll be in whatever it is.

it's not the thread that I object to.. it's the title of it.. which is basically the same as posting a poster in your office saying "INFO REGARDING THE SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THE BOSS!".. where obviously the boss will be walking past it on an hourly basis.. I don't think it would take long to figure out the surprise

got it! :-D
Hey FrankS, I just bought 4 Joe's at popflash & was charged? $20 extra for shipping? I'm guessing they will they remove the shipping charge? JimG
Jim, that just happened to me too. Tony Rose made assurrances that they would rectify that, and I'm confident they will.
Brett, do you think Joe has enough self control not to read the "Back Alley not allowed to read" thread? Doug thought we should be clearly labelling our effort so that we can reach people (like Jan) who may not read every thread to find out what it's about.

The surprise, as I see it , is having enough financial support from RFF members to

/whiney voice/ Are we there yet? /whiney voice/
Inquiring (and generous) minds want to know!
Ray_g and Tony, update please?
Are we there yet?
Holiday mode in the U.S. could be slowing things down.

Right! Tony Rose may not even have the store open (although the internet site is.) We may have to wait until tomorrow, folks!
Somebody steamed Ed MacMahon?

Frank, I just got off the phone with Josh at Popflash Photo. Josh will call me back this afternoon with some numbers after he runs a total on the orders. Best guesstimate at this time is $1500. (Tony is out of town this week.)

If you select the USPS shipping option your shipping cost is zero. And also, like Jan Normandie, I never read the other thread for the same reason he didn't. But I also agree that the title of this one sorta let the ZI out of the bag.

Heh... this is very bad for Joe's health, all this anticipation...
Guess who is not sleeping tonight! (and tomorrow, and tomorrow)
But sincerely, Joe, I know you are reading this...
Thank you for a job well done, for protecting our corner of sane cyberspace, even if we don't all like Canon Ps...
Nick
BTW I'm in too

We have to keep at it. Josh at Popflash guessed wrong.
He just called and said he had $590 in credit card payments and $40 in money orders (to be received). He mentioned that some international credit card orders were declined.
Plan on keeping this thread open for a few more days.

but only in Moderation.....
Let's not taunt Joe. This canvassing has got to be a painful experience for him to endure as it is! :)

I'm Guilty, not going to put my credit card number on a shared computer at work so it's gonna be later tonight. I suspect it might be the same for others.

Thank you to all the contributors -- we're getting there!!!
I just received an e-mail from popflashphoto saying my credit card payment was also rejected. I'll try again. 48 more to go, come on!

I just sent 5 joes via paypal [extra joe to cover paypal screwage]
And I got confirmation of my CC payment to popflashphoto, and a credit for the shipping charge, so I'm in. I'm sure we still need some more support. We have over 4000 members (yes I know some are jsut here for the contest) but...
Hoping for updates soon.

A recent tally indicates we are still short but close -- good folks let's keep the momentum going!!! Remember, it's a camera, lens, and a pair of pants we hope to buy -- we've heard terrible tales about Joe moderating in scanty (or less) attire...
