Hi people!

I'm gonna buy a canonet g3 ql17, and i wanna to know the TRUE! Just the TRUE! hehe... :)
Is this camera a good choice?

I just want to get some feedback about the canonet g3 ql17 ;)

bruno, welcome to the forum.

there is a ton of stuff on the internet about this camera.
i have one and quite like it. it has a solid feel and a good lens.
it's a great camera to carry every day or just throw in your pack.

it would help to know what you plan to do with it, what kind of shooting you do, colour or b&w film...etc.

I have a SLR Minolta, i like it, but isn't portable!
I want a camera with nice lenses, and portable :)

I just use b&w film :)
it's my passion!

i just looked at your site, very impressive work, i like it.

the canonet would be fine if you are satisfied with one lens only.

i have one that needs a cleaning as the finder is a touch cloudy but it works great and i used it this summer as part of a bag of small fixed lens cams that i kept in a cooler in my car.
if you're looking for small and quiet with a good lens this would be a good choice.

Everyone who visits this site regularly should own at least one Cannonet QL17 GIII. They are inexpensive and there are plenty of them out there. It's a great camera, I've hardly ever heard anything bad about it.

Well, I'll toss my $.02 in then. I bought one a couple of months ago and sold it this week for almost the exact amount I spent. It's a nice camera, but I found it to be too small for me to be comfortable using it. I find myself enjoying old MF folders and Yashica Electros, so that may have had more than a little to do with it.

It has a nice lens and you'll probably like it alot. I just wanted to mention this so that if you find it somehow difficult to use, you'll know you're not the only one who feels that way.

I'll agree that with the lens stopped down, this is one of the best bargains in photography. Mine's not had a CLA probably for years, and the foam seals are going gummy, but the pics I had back are stupidly good for something I only pain £35 for. The one thing I don't like, however, is the Shutter priority, but that's something you have to deal with in nearly all fixed lens RFs.

In this particular case, conversion is very inexpensive, and there are so many good pictures on this site taken with that camera... :)

this is true peter.

i sometimes feel badly that i don't use my fixed lens cams more often, but my shooting time is limited and i always carry the canon p or the bessa r with me when i do go out.
i started to keep my oly stylus in my day pack and a konica c35 in my desk drawer at work. so far i have not used either of them.

and my poor canonet just hangs on the coat rack in my bedroom.

For me, it's the other way around, Joe. My fixed lens Yashica's (hey, i can talk about them now, instead of it!:D) get more and more use, while Sophie, the minolta slr, with 4 fantastic lenses, sits in the dark...
But maybe it's because it's an slr not a rf system:)

I have not used my SLR now for over a year. I tried to use it at Christmas last year and all the batteries failed spectacularly (the ones in the MD-4 motor drive as well as the one in the camera). :(
