View Full Version : Book 2 Important Request, Please read
OK, the mail box is filling up.
One issue.......
We had asked somewhere, that the text (Bio and photo descriptions) be kept to 150 words. Due to the number of participants we need to conserve space. We want the focus of the book to be the images of course.
Some of the text we have received is well over this limit. I must ask a favor of everyone.
If you feel you have submitted text over the 150 word limit, please edit your submission yourself, and resend it. I have to ask that you take the initiative on this as there is so much stuff now that has to be touched we cannot go threw every one and count words. At some point in the future when push comes to shove, we will notify participants individually, but right now I ask that you please use your good judgement, this will help us out quite a bit.
Also, if you are close to 150, that is ok. There are some that are quite lengthy though, those are the ones that need to be edited.
One other mention, we have been asked by some members for whom English is not their native language to edit their submissions to correct grammar and the like. We will be doing this and truly appreciate the diverse participation in this project and at RFF. We will not be editing every submission, only those we feel need some adjustments. If you have an objection to this regarding your submission, please send an email to the rff email box and we will comply with your wishes.
It looks like things are going forward quite well.
rover if you need help with editing or proofreading please count me in.

We had asked somewhere, that the text (Bio and photo descriptions) be kept to 150 words. Is this 150 words for each piece of text, or 150 words in total? (I'm sure you specified it somewhere, but I must have missed it...)
Cheers
Vincent
Revised bio sent. I also changed my mind on my photo submissions at the last minute... sorry about that.

I was close but I cut excess on my # 1 picture so I am now under...ah did the 150 include camera info
I bet it does... 150 words total.
Ralph, please clarify: is it 150 words total, or 150 words per picture description and per photog's bio?
Frank,
I believe it's 150 words TOTAL (for both photos and photog's description/bio). :)
I cut mine back and resent the "lighter" version into Rover just two seconds ago :D
Cheers

i think the bio is limited to 150 words.
the text for the pics should be relatively brief.
remember there are at least 100 shooters in this book compared to the 25 in the first book.
joe
150 total? EEEEK.
If so, I completely misunderstood.
And, if so, I will revert to "merciless" mode and get editing.
Thanks for all the work you are doing.
I kept my text very small and hopefully with not too many errors :-)
Feel free to edit as needed.

Well, I guess I need to trim down my text... Do you know for sure at this stage whether it's going to be one or two pictures per photographer? Obviously this makes a difference as to whether the 150-word limit should apply to two or three pieces of text (bio and caption(s)).
Cheers

Less than 150 means you don't have to be creative and write too much. We should all like that. My total was less than 90 words for titles, location, film/camera, date and a bio. Easiest writing assignment I've had in a long time.

word count feature?
really?
i never heard of that!
i have word perfect & word...do they have this mystery feature?
joe
It is 150 words total. Lets not get crazy though, just be close if you have to edit stuff down. Tech info doesn't count.
Think of this...there will be two parts of the book, the first is contains the images. We want this to be more than the focus, we want it to overwhelm the text. With 100ish participants you can imagine how big the text part can be. So, One Bio and two photo descriptions, 150 words. Again, tech info does not count.

Joe , I'm using Word for Mac. I think the feature is the same for a PC ... go to the toolbar and click on the dropdown menu titled 'tools' this should show a feature 'word count' about a quarter the way down the menu.

I'll be able to check this once I'm back home from holidays, monday 9th/ sorry!
I have just now sent revised and reedited image description and bio text that now all adds up to just under 150 words. I didn't include camera, lens, and film details (or the the image file attachments) as they were already included in the first email.
Hmm, I guess 243 words is a bit over - I just resent my edit down version, which incidentally is probably better (I cut out my attempts to justify why I like the photos).
I'm compiling the bios, descriptions, and tech data information and most of us are well above 150. :) I expected this from digital shooters, but from film shooters, who supposedly compose carefully before pressing the shutter release? ;)
BTW, I'm seeing basically two types of bios: the straight-forwarded chronological/historical type, and the 'my philosophy towards photography' type. Either one is fine. If you're having trouble keeping the word count down and you are using one, maybe try switching to the other.
Also, if you wrote in the third-person please switch it to first-person and submit again.
We have a varied and fascinating group here, the bios have all been great. This information will be in the back of the book, but the book is going to be excellent from cover-to-cover.
:)
Gosh, I was sure the 150 words limit included the Tech Info! Only the: Camera: Film: Lens: Exposure: twice took me eight words. Anyway gone is gone.

[SIZE=4]If you feel you have submitted text over the 150 word limit, please edit your submission yourself, and resend it. .
I felt so and checked my submisson . Downsized it to 5% of it's original size and resent it today, now within the limit of 150 words in total. ;)
Best,
bertram
