10 days ago, from those united of states, various people dropped into the mail system one canon lens, a bunch of filters, a shade and i can't remember what else.
between the american and canadian post offices, customs and some very tired sled dogs i still have not received one package.
what makes it take so long?
i have no patience for this.
(maybe you noticed?)

Joe, I hate to tell you this, but last spring I ordered a part for my motorcycle from Califonia, and it took 10 weeks to reach me in Ontario! Most of the time the package was held up at Canada Customs. (I guess they were waiting to see if it'd explode or something.)

didn't it used to be quicker?
or am i just remembering it all wrong?
even my payments are taking longer, like 10 days for an envelope to arrive in a western state.
i think it's crazy!

lol rover!
this isn't as bad as waiting for the 'p'.
i'm more amused and only slightly p.o.'d at the postal/customs system.
i just don't see a reason/need for such long delivery times.
oh well...

so the metal hood for the 100 lens, the series vi red filter for the 50/1.8 and the red filter for the 75/2.5 showed up today. still waiting for the actual lens to show. i ordered this stuff days after the lens.
i bet there is a canadian customs officer stalking a bull moose with my lens attached to his camera.
he's likely checking to make sure it can't be used in some sort of terrorist plot.
oh well, i hope rover is right and monday will be the day cause that's the mail for this week.
damn.......
joe

Rover has probably bribed the mailman with a percentage of his pool winnings... ;)

well rover, i hope you didn't bet too much $$.
no mail for joe today!
i have got to stop buying off ebay, i can't handle the mail/customs.
joe
That is bad, and if you complain to someone they will inspect all your mail, not just the boxes with cylindrical metallic objects in them.

the lens is still not here but the 2 filters i also 'won' off ebay A WEEK LATER have arrived nice and safe at my door step!!
oh well, now the canonet has a nice yellow filter to go along with the original canon shade and one of my oly rc cams has a yellow filter also.
things are looking up.
joe
You can see a bunch of guys huddled over an x-ray image of the package.
"Ya think it's a bomb?"
" I dunno."
"Poke it."
"NO, I ain't gonna poke it. You Poke it!"

no lens yet!
It took me about 1 week to receive my Pentacon 300/4 from Kiev, it was send Sep 28/04, received today . It took about the same for my MTO 500mm mirror.
My seller did send it by registered air mail tho.
I'm in Toronto, so I'm a bit closer to Europe. I have had packages take longer to get to me from Winnipeg than the Ukraine?!?!?

winnipeg is actually further away from toronto than the ukraine!!

Bring back the pony express, hell no!
You have any idea how long it will take for Rover's Bessa R to be shipped from Connecticut, USA to Auckland NZ!? Plus I don't think ponies can swim, so I have visions of the USPS mounted employee trying to coax his mount into the North Pacific and drowning taking the camera with him...
...Which reminds me, I wonder what horrors the Milford branch of the NZPost have in store for new baby. I still remember the phone call when my first Bessa R arrived at Milford
"Hello, Mr.S Todd?"
"Yes..."
"We think we have a problem with a camera what was shipped to you..."
"Oh-no, what's happened?"
"We think someone's broken it"
"How?"
"Somebody has ripped the lens off it and we can see all the inside parts"
"The camera doesn't come with a lens, you're not touching the 'inside' parts are you?!?"
"Hmmm..."
Stu :)
PS. Yes there was a finger print on the shutter curtain, but NZPost paid to get it checked before I used it.
The race is on, the R made it to the post office on 10/7. Right now it is probably spending a sunny layover in Hawaii.

Stu, that's a funny story:)
And a 85mm Jupiter-9 is on its way here as well, even though not from the FSU lands this time ;)
It's been a week and counting, you're right Rover, the race is on :D
Stu, if Sea Iguanas could arrive to the Galapagos via a floating log, just think what that Bessa-R can do ! :p

i can feel the love all the way here.
well, my b'day is about to end and there was no lens at my doorstep whan i got home.
the seller said he is seeing more & longer delays of shipments to canada.
i feel the need to blame someone but don't know who...
joe
Rover, if your camera sends me a post card of one of Hawaii's sunny beaches "Saying wish you were here!" I'll forward it on :)
Taffer, yes but I sooner trust the drowning postal service worker and his faithful mount then a sea iguana floating around the ocean on a log. Plus the first living thing to show up on New Zealand shores by the "floating wood" method was us humans...
Stu :)

My Pony Express tale doesn't involve iguanas or Hawaii, but hey, if Hawaii is involved, I'll go look for your camera for you, lol. I called the store I use for my US shipping address yesterday to see if my latest goodies had arrived and lo and behold, after 3 months or so of thinking it was lost in the mail forever, my Zorki C has turned up sitting on a shelf in their back room. I think my Hyundai set a new land speed record for the 35 miles to the border. The Zorki seems to be in great shape, shutter , aperture etc. look/sound ok, now it's time to run some film thru the old feller (gal). The other assorted goodies (a Tower RF maybe a type 57?, a Voigtlander Vitoret D and a Closter?? C61) are not bad, but the Zorki sure made my day. Lately I seem to be hitting about 50 % working, and 50% dud cameras on E**Y so I've put the brakes on acquiring any more for a bit. Unless you count the Agfa and Kodak box cameras I picked up yard saling this morning. Time to go shoot a few pics, so everyone take care out there.

it's been over a month since i sent my payment.
i now have 3 lenses on the way.
still waiting on a couple of series v filters.
i becoming despondent, sad and restless...where are my pills?
joe
Well the USPS must have used sea horses or given those log faring sea iguanas GPS, because rover's camera arrived safe and sound today.
Got you lens yet Joe <poke poke poke>

Joe,
Have you considered that the Mailman is really an RF user and is checking out the equipment before delivering it?
How many Canadian Mailmen are members of the Forum?

brian,
you have no idea the twisted thoughts that have coursed through my tiny brain.
i have started to look at my neighbors with the greatest suspicion, heaven forbid i see one of them shooting with a ltm camera.

Actually since moving to Ontario, I find the postal service has only improved...unless it's a letter or parcel from an old friend in Montreal :-)
