Hello out there:

new member here in southern California.

I took a roll of 400 bw today, actually partial roll as I couldn't figure out how to reset frame counter. Also there is a square opening with some sort of symbol on the same dial, what is that for?

Loading the film was easier than I expected as was removing it, and the meter seemed to be close to my Gossen digisix meter.

Focus took some getting used to as I had a problem grabbing the wrong knob and would change another setting.

One keeper of looking at the cloudy sky through tree limbs was a keeper, it appears this is a good contrasting lens.

Well thanks for any help to my "newbie" questions!

LOL!
The Contessas do not reset automatically.
After you loaded the film you rotate the frame nbr indicator to 36 or 24 and it starts counting down from there.

The other small window your talking about doesn't do anything really. I think its mainly used to help you remember what kind of film you have in there.

I just checked the manual to make sure, and it didn't list any special function other than "film-type indicator window"

Look in the Butkus website for a manual, I believe there is one for the CONTESSAMATIC (which is the same camera)
