Picked up the M6 at lunchtime. For the last two hours I have been sitting at my desk at work, just looking at it, at it sits there next to my screen, with the VC Ultron 35 mounted. Every now and then I just reach out, pick it up, and fondle errrrrr I mean handle it, wind it on a couple of times and fire the shutter.

That's it, I've definately lost it. What was the number for Leicabaters Anonymous???

My mind is not on work, think I'll load the HP5 I have here and head out......

Now...anyone in the market for a EX+ Bessa R2 body? ;)

Preciousss....preeeciouuusssss.....

Oh...and next you will have to slap a Leica lens on it as well...its aperture ring is so smoooth and soothing....and the quality...oh...and have you looked at the Luigi site www.leicatime.com for the MUST have Italian leather half-cases...mmm...

Preciousss....preeeciouuusssss.....

Note: Yes, I know how to make fun of myself...but...it's all also true...Leica lenses ARE amazing and so ARE Luigi's cases... :D

Remember, the most useful accessory for a Leica is another lens. Don't make me post another subliminal message. Just look at the results!

Congratulations.

For God's sake man, don't put any film in it! You won't be able to listen to the shutter and feel that smooth winding on as you aimlessly fondle it.

This is a sick & perverted thread! I am going to immediately call the Moral Majority to come & investigate you guys for distributing such disgusting pornography on the internet. Will RFF now have to have a warning label, indicating that children should not use this site?! I'm shocked & dismayed to see such deviant, prurient behavior being displayed by all of you!

Tim, congratulations - and a bit of advice.

USE IT! SHOOT SOME FILM THROUGH IT! ASAP!

My guess is that you'll experience a renewed interest in taking photographs - I know I did.
That's what it was made for - shooting pitchers, man!

Tim, one good idea is to take out the battery. You'll drain it by turning the meter on all the time you listen to the music of the shutter.

BTW, I'm speaking from experience :(

Congratulations from this guy with a Leica on his desk to another with a Leica on his! ;)

Tim,

I have a confession to make. I have never owned a Leica, but I think I know how you feel. For I have owned a Zeiss Ikon Contina IIa. No, it is not a rangefinder - you have to set the distance yourself. But it feels oh, so silky smooth. The steel is machined such that you touch it and whimper quietly to yourself. Like a bank vault, the back closes. Like a Rolls-Royce, the winder operates. You trip the shutter and it is like a glass rod breaking, clean, with a snap of authority. It oozes quality. And it wasn't even the best Zeiss Ikon could make.

I dare to make this comparison because I have fondled, er, handled a superb Leica IIIf that a coworker has, and the feeling of solidity and completeness is the same to me. It is majestic.

When I first got my Contina IIa, I cleaned it up and come bedtime, I sat it on the nightstand next to me. My wife laughed and threatened to go sleep on the couch to give us time together. I think she was only half kidding.

Only one rung down on that scale is my 1962-era Canon FX slr. Not a rangefinder either, but oh my.

These cameras have authority. We dig them. Grok it. Enjoy your Leica!

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

I'd also sleep with my freshly CLA'd bzzzz-click rolleicord, would he not stink that bad!

Anybody has an idea how to get rid of that old-thing-from-the-bottom-of-grampa's-closet smell?

For those who want Funk, but don't have it, I can provide authentic 16 oz. boxes of well aged 1992 Hurricane Andrew Funk for the low, low price of $29.95 (postpaid to the contiguous 48 states, postage additional for other locations; payment by PayPal preferred).

Pherdinand,

Take the poor thing out for an airing! It needs some wind in the face, some sun in the back, some traveling to grow anything but fungus! :D

Man... this thread is scary... I'm not alone!! We're legion!!

Tim,
from one Leicabater to another, some advice:
*Don't rub....err caress to much........it causes "brassing"

*Never fondle your Leica in your lap sitting behind your desk, others might walk in and mistake your actions for something far more self indulgent!

*The first few times you take your M6 out to shoot you may notice yourself uncontrollably firing off frames. While this is very embarassing it is to be expected as a novice Leicabater, it's called premature shutter-release and it happens to the best of us. My tip: think about baseball, hockey, or something else and you'll be fine.

* Most importantly: never shoot without protection, use a hood on that lens, you don't want to catch "flare" do you?

Congrats,
Todd

Thanks everyone for your good wishes!

Well, I walked into work today thru the National Park, lovely morning, shot a whole roll of film, so ITS BEEN USED!!!!!! It really is a lovely thing to use, so smooth and quiet. And you may call me stupid, but just knowing that I'm using a (bloody expensive) Leica seems to make me think more about shots. Yeh, Yeh, I know that's just mental and could be forced with any camera.....but it's different.....honest......believe me...please?

Anyway, bottom line is I enjoy using it and it's going to be my carry everywhere camera (yes it's insured!)

The CV Ultron's going to have to do for the moment. Actually, I've had quite a few people tell me that unless you go for the latest aspherical 35 'cron there's pretty much no difference. Except in feel, of course...... And the M6 is sitting in a Bessa case at the moment, fits perfectly. I know that one day a 35 'cron will have to be bought, but that's gonna have to wait quite a while. Mebbe a CV 90 tho? Anyone used one?
In the meantime I'll "make do" with my CV 21, 35, 75; and my leica 50 and 135...... (mebbe I have too many lenses? LAS (Lens Acquisition Syndrome) is a disease I tell you!!!!)

Pherdinand: The R2's for sale, only rreason I haven't posted it up here yet is that a mate is interested, if he doesn't want it it's up for grabs - Black Bessa R2, unmarked, 6 months old, 18 months Australian warranty still to go, AUD $600 + shipping

Francisco: I got spare batteries with it ;)

Todd: Thanks for the advice, I suffered from premature shutter release this morning. All the while grinning like a lunatic.......

OK, I gotta do some work :(
