Happy (almost) July 4 and Sample Pic of Statue of Liberty

So I was recently in NYC, and I couldn't resist taking my son to see the Statue of Liberty. And I couldn't resist a snapshot of the same image that has graced a thousand post-cards. But I had my new XP1 and 35mm lens, so, ka-ching, I offer the following:

But then I couldn't resist the urge to fiddle with the image, crop, adjust, run through Silver Efex Pro, add the keylines that some seem to feel so strongly about, etc. And so I also offer the following:

Anyone else see the artifacts on the cropped image? Looks like the cropped image was put through a half-tone screen for newsprint publication.

This was converted from RAW in Lightroom to a DNG and then to a JPG in PS5 after treatment in PS. Looks to me like the biggies have a little bit more work to do on their conversion algorithms.

ISO: 250, 1/400 sec. at f:8.0.

I am going to run the same image through the OEM software to a 16-bit TIFF file and see whether the artifacts are still there. They are only visible at 100%, but the crop illustrates nicely a situation in which you might want an extreme crop.

I used to get a similar effect with a D2HS. It's just a software issue. Adobe/ Nik will get around to it.

First post on this forum excuse me if I err.
I have just loaded my first XPro pix from my camera, viewed them at 100% and couldn't believe the dot screen. It is exactly as you describe, like a newspaper pic.
I have come from a little Samsung X10 to this camera, there are no artifacts from the Samsung at 100%, so to say the least I am disappointed.
The workflow for me was similar to you Raw to DNG.
Can you please explain what you mean by "run the same image through the OEM software"?
