I think it's terrible. It doesn't allow multi-button presses: it treats LMB + RMB as LMB alone. This doesn't work with some of my software.

I found MacBooks don't need a mouse, had one but never get used to it. It's not reactive as working on an Apple track pad.

I love mine.
I gave up on mice. We have cats. I use a tablet instead.

My cat was too lazy to catch mice, so I have always used them.
I have the "Mighty Mouse", and love it except the tiny ball scroll wheel, which never works right, it gets jammed with dirt too easy and is hard to clean. I haven't tried the Magic Mouse yet. If mine dies, I suppose I'll get the newer one.
I use a Magic Mouse at the office and like it in general. But I turn off the scrolling feature when using a spreadsheet document, where otherwise it's just too skittery. At home I have the Bluetooth trackpad, not so fond of that as fine control is difficult. In all, I prefer the Magic Mouse. No jittery screen with either; I wonder what would cause that... Check the Mouse settings in System Prefs?
magic mouse with magic prefs application is epic. Gestures on your mouse = best. Great little piece of hardware.

Joe, you probably don't realize that you can swipe side to side on the mouse, as you can on an Apple trackpad. You can even side-swipe with two fingers to get to your previous web page or what have you. The whole surface is like a trackpad. That's why the jittering--you need to control your finger motion a little better with this mouse. If you don't like this you can disable it in settings I presume.

I like the Magic Mouse and use one at work all day. I did like it's predecessor with the tiny scroll wheel which I use sometimes at home with my MacBook but it seems not to work so well now and I have reverted to a simpler wired mouse.

What problem are you experiencing? And, which model? I use one regularly.

The newer one is much better in this respect.
But, if you want to clean your scroll ball, try putting a piece of paper on the table, turning your mouse upside down, and rolling it around a bunch on the paper.

It's my favorite aspect of my Mac. Set up the preferences to your liking and it can do most anything with just the mouse. It does use up batteries though if you're like me and don't turn it off.
I always ditch the mouse when I get a new Mac, considering this is the company that popularized the use of the mouse, Apple is really bad at making them. I find them fiddly and small, and I don't have big hands. I'd say, save the pennies and get a Logitech or something, cheaper and probably better.
My brother likes the desktop trackpad though, never tried it myself.

Joe,
The system preferences has animated instructions then find parameters that work for you. Maybe you should change your mouse pad?
My Magic Mouse is so good I quit using my Bamboo drawing tablet for selective adjustments during photo processing.
The swipe gestures are useful too.

Now, if you want to talk about KEYBOARDS, there is everything else, and then there is my keyboard: The Das Keyboard Model S for Mac. I wish there were a black magic mouse to go along with it.

Awesome, I didn't realize they had a mac version now. I've used their keyboards for years, they're awesome. Nothing better out there.
If you ever typed on an IBM Selectric, which was always the ne plus ultra of typing hardware, then Das Kayboard is waiting for your money.

The fix it! -- http://magicprefs.com/ :bang:
Cheers for that, downloaded and installed. My magic mouse seems to jump by default sometimes, and think it is the sensitivity of the mouse to any movement by the base of my hand, am sure Magic Prefs will sort that out :)

Apple just make crap keyboards these days. I agree the DAS is very good but ended up going with the Matias TactilePro 3 for mine. Love mechanical keys and the tactile feedback makes typing very fast.
Personally, the Magic Mouse is a pain; primarily because its velocity sensitive. I hate the distance it travels on the screen relative to how far the mouse moves being a function of speed. I only have one to travel with my Macbook Air I use for business trips, and even then, only when I need to build powerpoint chart decks. At home I ditched the mouse for a trackpad, which I find fantastic

Or, there are the original IBM Model M keyboards, like the ones I have used for the last 28 years. That is the one Das Keyboard attempts to emulate. Of course the original IBM keyboards weigh almost as much as a modern day compact laptop and certainly are not cheap these days.

Then fix it! -- http://magicprefs.com/ :bang:
I am leery of supplemental driver software like that. I ran USBOverdrive for a while, and my system became flaky with it.

magicprefs made the magic mouse usable for me. i started out thinking i'd really like it, then after two days i thought i'd never use it. then i got magicprefs and it's growing on me. it's not perfect, but i've decided i reallly like it.

I just ended up buying a $14 charger with 2 batteries at Lowes. Great because I cannot run out, and of course it does save some money.
At the Apple Store or Amazon, get a product from Mobee... special rechargeable battery pack and a little flat stand for the Magic Mouse. Place the mouse on the stand and it charges the battery. Really nice.

No Mac apps require a third mouse button.
Maya does.

I love the functionality of the magic mouse, but hate it's form. For the life of me, I cannot find a way to make using it comfortable.
Mine eats batteries...now I use my good eneloops on my mouse. It still seems to burn through them pretty quickly. Although I ignore the low battery warning until they flat out die.
Also funky if orientation isn't right with the screen.
ymmv
My mm has worked fine since I got nearly 2 years ago. I put fresh batteries in it every 6-9 months. It seems to go to sleep when not in use; I never bother with turning it off either. Love the gestures.
Occasionally I think of getting one for my wife's iMac. As others have noted the little ball on the mighty mouse only works sporadically I'll try the cleaning method suggested here.
I don't remember what the warranty period is on them, but it might be worth a visit to your apple store to see if it is defective. They've been good about replacing products during the warranty period.
Unfortunately, I use my computer way too much...
I use a magic mouse at work. It's ok, but nothing special IMO. Ours eat batteries too. We generally have to change them every couple months.
At home I use a Logitech wireless mouse with my mac, and I think I prefer it. Mostly for the shape of it, but I also like the mechanical scroll wheel.

Nooo. i use one of these at work, and those little scroll wheels don't work half the time, the magic mouse is great, except for the batteries part.

While most of us mortals use Blender which is free, for those with $3500 and the need, I would think they would spring for a three button mouse.
Thanks, I did. Good 3-button mice are cheaper than the Magic Mouse, anyway.
The Magic Mouse and Microsoft's Touch mouse are, in my eyes, a step backwards in UI design. They introduce a strong ability to use them "wrong". It's easy to mishandle the mouse and activate a gesture unintentionally, or do the incorrect gesture. Physical controls on mice are, I think, a better idea. Or mice where there touch surface is physically distinct from non-touch surfaces, and can be avoided or used as needed (like mice with touch strips for the scroll wheel).
I reviewed the Microsoft Touch mouse for IEEE (found here: http://spectrum.ieee.org/geek-life/tools-toys/review-microsoft-touch-mouse ). Logitech's gaming mice are, I think, the best mice out there. Cyborg's RAT7 mouse is crazy looking, but awesome in the hand.
