View Full Version : I love my OM-1 (thankyou Dave)
With Dave Lackey (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119032) openly and unashamedly expressing his feelings for his M3 I've decided to unlock my emotions and declare my love for my OM-1 ... it's only fair after all because at the moment there are plenty of new cameras out there that could turn one's head and I needed to let my little black Oly know that she's still 'the one!'
We may be men (and women occasionally) but that doesn't mean we have to be stoic or reserved about these things ... Dave has shown me the way!

I'm right there with you.
My original black OM1 has wear problems from 37 years of use but it now has 5 brothers and sisters to hang out with. (not counting 2 OM10's.a 4T and PC - they don't really count)
One of my favorites is a very early pre-MD OM1 in Chrome. It needs a new prism (which i now have) and general CLA so I haven't shot it yet.
I have an EX+ (near mint to me) black OM1N that is gorgeous but I like the first gens better for the silky smooth film advance.
Also the very early ones had crisper plate stampings when the presses were new.
Afraid to say it but I love my OM2 more than my OM1, with the 50mm 1.4 its just perfection with a nice viewfinder and smooth film advance and its small size.

My great love affair started several days ago. The first Olympus OM I've ever owned...
Ad I am going to use it, I swear!

I think RFF "Show us your ..." is same than LUF "I love my ....". same thing, camera pr0n.
Absolutely!
The meter is dead and I need to reinstall fresh light seals but my original OM-1 (non md) chrome, purchased used in February 1974 is still clicking. Last service was summer of '86! I also have a well worn black OM-1md bought used in '89 and CLA'ed at Camtech about 2002. Also still works fine. I finally completed the Zuiko's I wanted a few years ago but I am debating a 300 f4.5, they seem not too expensive and sometimes I could use the reach.
Almost forgot, have a OM-2sp purchased as a back cap for a lens I wanted. haven't really used it much, perhaps I should?
I won't revisit this thread as someone has posted photo of an OM-3. :bang:
Sorry, but my true love is for the mini daddy of the Om-1: the Oly Pen F. RIP Y. Maitani.

I dunno - I think cameras are somehow like women. You just need more than one.
My first OM-1 will soon arrive. So I am looking forward to this beautiful new girlfriend!

Actually, Keith, thank YOU...I picked up a nice OM10 from Cosmo months ago and have no lens so I have been thinking about it. Then, I see this thread and it hit me...I have some gear to trade in at the local camera shop...maybe I can find a lens with an OM-1 for a lens cap! THAT would be too cool!

Congrats on the OM-1 ... I hope she lives up to our expectations! :p
One of the best things I did for my well worn OM-1 was send her off to John Hermanson at Camtech for a little holiday ... she came back with the most accurate centre weighted meter I've ever used and a film advance action that made me swoon ... and her new prism was a delight for my aging eyes! :D

Dave ... I have to say I would love to have you in the OM-1 family. We seem to have converted Paul and I almost assumed that you would be next! :p

Don't let your OM-1 know what your OM-2 is doing. Jealousy is an ugly thing. :D
I found out you don't want to leave two OM's in a corner together.
Ever
And don't forget that while you can control the OM-1's exposure totally yourself, the OM-2 is a little prone to exposing herself without your input.
Some people may like this trait ... personally I find it a little brazen!

I know. My OM-2S is exposing a lot of her brass.

I absolutely need to do this too, my finder is so dirty. BTW, why does my OM-1 have a steel top, as opposed to all the brass ones I've seen

I hadn't heard of her until this thread. Wow!
Out of curiosity, does anybody know what she used before Olympus? Her pre-Olympus stuff is great too.

Here's another 85mm image ... I took this a week or so ago in very harsh light with Plus-X. I had an early 90mm Summicron at one stage and for me the 85mm Zuiko is every bit as good as the Leica lens in the real world.

I like the truck shot, Keith.
If there is one Zuiko lens that I wouldn't even consider selling, it's the 85/2.
