well, the longwinded subject line should pretty much cover it:
i look for hoods | shades, anything that you can put, stick, jam or shove on top of a collapsible industar-22 lens.
so far, i have not been too successful finding information on this matter online, however -- thus my questions:
a) what size do they (filters and | or shades) have to be?
b) what are some recommendable brands | products?
c) where do i find them?
thanks a lot & cheers.

My "Elmarsky" re-engraved "Elmar 50mm F3.5" Russian copy lens used the same size filters as does the Argus C3. Ebay trick: Look for Argus C3 filters, they are cheaper than Leitz filters.
A36, a.k.a 36mm slip-on filters, which are a bit clutsy.
Steven Gandy, a.k.a. CamerQuest sells a slip-on hood and lens cap. I do recommend getting a hood for the lens.
With regards to filters, you may not need them. The only time I use mine is when I'm in the middle of roll of 400TX, which I've already exposed at EI 800 or EI1600 and want to shoot some frames outside.
Brian,
Will the C3 filters also fit on Summitar [assuming 36mm]. Just curious and ignorant.

Fedka sells russian-made 36mm yellow filters designed for the Industar-22 and Industar-50 lenses. The link to the filters page on his site is here (http://www.fedka.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=40)
He's in NY, is very fast and responsive answering quesions, and everything I've bought from him is ready to use as received. You might want to email him about hoods, because I don't think he lists everything he has on his site.
Another alternative is to buy a Leica SOOGZ (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7548287299) (around $15) and then screw a standard 39mm into it and a lenshood into the filter ring. Using a SOOGZ means you can't change the aperture too easily though. :(

thanks much for the reply, guys!
peter, aperture changes are not that big of a problem, when it comes to my industar lens: i normally stick to 5.6 (give or take).
mister_hat, i will check him out -- however, i am in germany, so i suppose shipping would take some two weeks under normal circumstances.
thanks again.

Steve Gandy only advertises the caps now, I think the hoods are sold out!
My solution, take a 36mm fsu slip on filter and knock the glass out of it. Then take a 40.5mmm fsu filter and remove glass. The 36mm slip on will press fit into the back of the 40.5 (add a drop of epoxy) and now you have a nice filter adaptor. So you need only take one set of 40.5 filters out with you and still can use them on a J-8 if need be................

The standard Leitz Elmar clamp-on hood is all you need. It fits the 36mm lenses, does a fine job, doesn't get in the way, and is readily available quite cheap.

IIRC, the FOOKH clamp on hood for the elmar is also used on the Summar, and is quite in demand, usually expensive if you can find one. Or were you referring to a different hood?
This is the hood. It is marked Elmar 5cm. I use it on a Summar, as well as on the FED 3.5 and Industar 50. The FED cap does not fit on in a confidence-inspiring way. I thought it could be gotten cheaply on eBay - about $15
Nickfed, that sounds very interesting. When you get an opportunity, maybe you can post a photo -- it may be a nice, inexpensive alternative for all of us :)
Here are a couple. My cheapo digital worked hard to do this, with a +2 62mm close-up held over the front. The lens is a Leitz Summar. The FED case is only good for the FED 3.5 but this combo fits nicely in the Zorki-6 case, collapsed but with the hood still on - and including a 34mm screw-in filter.
The stuff of dreams.........

Just spotted the question: The ARgus C3 filters are much smaller than 36mm, the are like ~19mm? They screw into the threads on the I-22 and 5cm F3.5 Elmar. The size is not marked, I'll try the calipers when I get home.
