Did u happen to bring your own sd card and take some pictures with the 35 f1.4? After viewing I would think serious gas attack :)

The accessary hand grip makes a big difference. I wish they would market one for the x100.

You currently have a great setup with the rd and Nikon dslr.

Will your photos be any better?
Will your photos be any different in subject matter?
Or have you managed something that I think that non of us other guys have managed, use two cameras at the same time on different subjects?
Have I missed something after all?

This is a good start for a very emotion-draining novel. Proceeds of blockbuster novel pay for camera. Now you are famous and get to photograph everyone you've always wanted. How's that?

I do agree with that statement. I think that your photography changed quite dramatically with the RD1. However, you also produced some great stuff with the X100, so maybe it was just coincidental. If it makes you happy then go for it, but I don't think you need it photographically.

Isn't GAS wonderful :D

I find it helpful to enforce a 72 hour cooling off period, to see if the GAS urgency of the moment will go into remission.

Two things hold me back from the X Pro1: it seems a tad expensive; and it would mean buying yet more lenses. Can't I just be happy taking pictures with all the cameras I already have?

But I did get the X10, though. It feels pretty good in the hand, too.

Moving from film to digital may have had some effect, but with the RD1 you seemed to have settled and focused more on your photography and less on gear (apart from numerous lens and bag diversions ;)). We're all different, but I noticed that my photography suffered when I got onto the GAS train. I've bought and sold 19 different (mainly expensive) cameras in the last 6 years 3 of them twice! I've spent so much time testing, that I've almost forgotten the point of it all :bang: So maybe stability is the answer - well once my second RD1 arrives next week :)

I have owned the X1 and the X100. I sold them both together with a whole heap of other gear to fund a new start in photography. The xp1 is everything you have heard about it and I can't wait for the 60mm lens to become available in Australia. At the same time, with the change I bought an R D1 and a cv 35 to keep my feet on the ground.

I hear you on the focusing issue. In fact, I am going to eventually sell my M9 and invest in the Xpro-1 system. Not concerned with potentially slow auto focusing issue. My aging eyes agree, slow is okay.

Very Homeric. Straight out of the Odyssey. Someone needs to tie poor Joe to the mast to keep the sweetly singing sirens from luring him into more trouble. Of course, there's always the chance that you get more pangs of GAS and tire of this, moving on to something else. We'll all be watching and waiting. Meanwhile, how about posting some pix??? Okay, I've come up with an anti-GAS medication (anti-FLATuLENT???) that will work for Joe if not for others here.

How about if you make a deal with yourself. "I won't buy the Fuji until I first find the perfect bag." Since the perfect bag doesn't exist, you'll be in limbo indefinitely. Right? No, of course, not. I tried. At least, the lack of funds burning a hole in your pocket will slow you down a little on this one.

I get the eyes problem because I notice the same thing but it tends to affect me more in low light ... in decent light a rangefinder is still very quick for me. I don't see you posting a lot of images here that are shot in what I'd call the extremes of low light so I don't see that the RD-1 would be a problem. Unless there are things about your vision I don't know.

i'm a diabetic...one day the eyes are fine, next day i have problems focusing...apparently it has something to do with pressure behind the eyes...some diabetics can have several pairs of glasses and see which works best for a particulay day.

and to add to what keith said, even if you DO need to shoot low light, for those occasions (and lets be honest its probably the minority of most work, well i should say for me atleast to some extent) the R-D1 and a fast lens push quite nicely at 1600, and for your eyes, getting great at scale focusing will be ideal. The AF often fail in that light anyway. My 35 1.2 and 50 1.4 have not put me in a situation where i couldn't get the shot, except!! for the rare AYE-AYE forest exhibit i saw, which is a pitch black (with blue ambient light) exhibit where the aye aye live (nocturnal). But to be fair, my d700 couldnt do it either, at any ISO. :)

Ahh ... so it's a focus problem and not a light problem!

I understand totally because I wear contact lenses that are affected by relative humidity ... on a bad day (extremely dry) my vision can be all over the place so I can imagine your problems. I'd forgotten you were diabetic and I'm familiar (not personally) with the vision issues this condition brings to the table.

I really dislike auto focus and I have a couple of cameras that are supposedly state of the art (D700 and F6) and they both pi$$ me off when I use them in the way they faff about while focusing.

I generally use them with manual lenses for this reason but did have a 24-120 G series Nikkor on the F6 the other day and it had me grinding my teeth in no time! When my eyes fail me completely I'll probably have to find a new interest! LOL

+1 on the aging eyes issue. I am in the same boat as I got older my visual acuity got worse. Bright day light helps a lot here. But my days with a slr are long gone. I can still use an rf camera, but cameras like the Fuji, Ricoh gxr and Sony which can provide at least magnified view is getting to be a must for me if I use a manual focus camera. The dslr af are an option but I really don't want to carry the weight any longer. Cameras like the Fuji I hope will keep me shooting longer.

In a similar boat with R-D1 only I don't think I can part with that camera. Lately I've been using the X100 as a walk around camera that's always with me. Thinking the X-Pro1 would be a good option to make use of my M-mount lenses. Am I off my rocker?

Just wait until you are bored if the Nikon (if that happens), then move to the Fuji. As long as you are making photos and happy, the camera won't matter.
