Now that the X-Pro1 is shipping and in use, how about a thread of sample images? Here are four to get things going. All are out of camera jpegs taken with the Fujinon XF 18mm lens. More images and commentary available on my blog here (http://douglasmccarthy.me/2012/03/diary-of-a-x-pro1-user/).

I think the first one is the best, hands down. Great tonality and rather abstract looking.
This was about my 5th or 6th "real" (= not taken in my kitchen to test lenses/high ISO performance) shot with the camera when I took it for a test spin at the weekend - fortunately this fog lifted very quickly or the pics in my first impressions thread would all have looked like this! There's an obvious irony in using a state of the art digital setup to capture an image that could have been taken in 1948 but I'm determined to remain oblivious to it....

And another one from yesterday.

Gee, that brings back memories of cold days. Even walking to work through the frost and snow! I used to board in digs on Station Road with a Mrs Tadgell when I was a trainee manager at Foster Mills (Spillers Ltd). It was their technical research centre and I remember working on the development of a process to manufacture extruded and expanded starch chips or crisps, rather like the prawn crackers you get in Chinese restaurants. From there I went to start up a new mill at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire and then, finished training that took me to Avonmouth (Hosegoods), Ilford and Mile End (Millennium Mills in Royal Victoria Dock), Cambridge and Gainsborough I came back to Australia after four years in the UK. Sadly, I see that Hosegoods, Millennium, Foster Mills and many others lie derelict these days, but it seems the Gainsborough mill continues in production but under other owners. There was a huge program of rebuilding and modernising flour mills all over the country after WW2 that was still going on during my time there.

Thank you for posting these
Since I'm mostly interested in high ISO performance in crappy lighting when using digital, attached is a boring shot taken inside a diner @ ISO 6400 in macro mode using the 18/2 (f/2 & 1/60th sec.), straight conversion to TIFF from the raw file, with no noise reduction, sharpening, etc., only a bit of curves adjustment before converting to JPG in Photoshop. The 2nd file is obviously just a crop of the 1st.

Here are a few which I shot today. I have to say that shooting with the X-Pro is really a pleasure. The camera is light enough that carrying around my neck all day is no problem, and the camera seems to take a perfectly exposed shot, no matter what the conditions.

Long time I didn´t have such a pleasure shooting a camera; not since my father´s Voigtländer Vito B to be honest (original, small edition); that camera died in ´77 from shutter failure, after more than 20 years of faithful service!

Few photos, one with the 18, one the 35, one the 60. 100% crops as well. Great camera, but I had some focus issues with the camera - it would, at times, just not lock on to what I wanted to focus on. Last shot shows the dynamic range - from the deep shadow of the footwells to the bright highlights in the clouds. All jpegs, all straight out of the camera, no adjustments AT ALL. (which is worthy of note - perfect exposure, white balance and colour, as far as I'm concerned...)

My grandfather's 88th birthday dinner, then one of my friend's daughter mugging for the camera. All in-camera JPGs, I upposed the contrast and clarity of the last. In-camera B&W still doesn't hold a candle to good Silver Efex Pro work, but it's not terrible.
AF missed more than a few but the 35/1.4 remains absolutely amazing - and it's nice to be able to flip a switch to macro for shots like the last.

How'd you find the AF or did you MF? How did you find the 18mm 2.0? Been considering adding it to my kit.

Here are three from the 35/1.4 lens, two of which are using the macro function. I'm very pleased with the camera and lens on the whole, but there are some relatively minor things I hope are addressed in firmware upgrades. I hope the aperture chattering is fixed and that, in doing so, I will actually be able to use the EVF to focus at the aperture I've set on the lens (darned difficult to determine focus / depth of field otherwise). Even with power save on, the AF speed doesnt bother me though. :)
Images are jpegs slightly edited in capture one pro 6. It was my first time using that program, which appears to be quite nice. I think I will stick to lightroom though, since I'm used to it and I can use silver efex in lightroom.

The AF worked fine. Definitely not as peppy as a D700, but as I wrote in your "Achilles' heel" thread, I wasn't expecting dSLR-level AF performance, only Contax G2-level & that expectation has been met. I have shrunk down the AF area ("virtual RF patch") & paid close attention to where I aim that area. I didn't use true MF at all for this show (so far, I've only tried that in Macro mode), though I did try using the AF via the AE-L/AF-L button in M mode a couple times (even slower, but you get a distance readout).
The 18/2 is also good enough for me, a little reminiscent of the Cosina 28/1.9 Ultron in LTM, i.e., lower contrast wide open than Leica ASPH glass, but still delivers (more like pre-ASPH Leica).
How'd you find the AF or did you MF? How did you find the 18mm 2.0? Been considering adding it to my kit.

LOL. Bring it on!!!
Had my first proper chance to test out the 60mm today - seems like a very good lens to me. These are straight out of camera Jpegs at 1600 ISO.

A friend asked me to photograph a group of visiting monks as they created a sand mandala at the museum where she interns - I'm not overjoyed with what I got (I was in the back of the audience for the initial ceremony and the monks didn't seem like they were in a mood to be posed beforehand) but it's serviceable for the museum to document things, I guess. A lot more satisfied once the creation of the mandala started and I could get in closer to shoot them working.

I have to admit that I am in love with this camera system! I did manage to get the 60mm here in SC last week and love it as well. I think for wide angle I am going to go with the Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15mm f/4.5 M instead of the system 18mm lens...

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. The thing has such amazing performance at high ISO, that I think I could live with f4.5 on my wide lens.

Initial image samples using my 15mm Heliar via Kipon adapter have been less that promising. Some anomalies that I am seeing makes me suspect my adapter. With a subject at infinity focus, the periphery is soft, but markedly more so on the right side of the frame. However, when I used my 50 Summicron with the same adapter, the images was tack sharp across the whole frame. I'd like to try another version of the 15mm, but I'll probably have to settle for experimenting with my 21mm as well. Hopefully I can narrow down the issue to either the lens or the adapter.
I really don't think that there is an incompatibility issue with wide angle M lenses on the X-Pro 1 in general. It really appears to be more of a sample specific issue. Obviously, I intend to experiment some more with my M lenses, but I wouldn't mind picking up the 14mm Fuji that is supposed to be released in the Fall. If it's anything like the 35, I would be quite pleased.

Would you please update us as you work with this lens? I cannot believe that the Kipon adapter could be the blame. It is a CNC machined metal part and should be totally parallel!

It is, indeed. He's the CEO of The Planetary Society now. He draws amazing crowds, especially at events like the USA Science & Engineering Festival, of which this was a part.
Initial image samples using my 15mm Heliar via Kipon adapter have been less that promising. Some anomalies that I am seeing makes me suspect my adapter.
My cv28/3.5 with the same adapter is also softer on the left side. It isn't on other cameras (film). Maybe the lens has a decentered element or other problem that the digital sensor is unforgiving enough to show it, but I doubt it. I too suspect the adapter.
On the other hand I'm yet to see a symmetrical wide lens that is sharp corner to corner on this camera.
18/2 @ f/2, ISO 3200 (effectively 6400 since I underexposed by 1 stop), in-camera JPG w/standard "Provia" setting & minimum noise reduction (no NR in post):

Took my x-pro1 to the national zoo with a couple of good friends. Hope nobody minds me sharing about a dozen photos from the day. I'm quite happy with the results. I used the 35/1.4 lens and also my 100/4 smc macro tak and my 200/4 smc tak.
Focusing with the adapted lenses was quite easy. But, handholding on a cloudy day (dim lighting) with the 200/4 was very difficult. All the photos with that lens came out reasonably sharp, good enough for small web prints anyway, but critical sharpness was somewhat rare. Bringing along my tripod would have helped but would have seriously annoyed the crowds at the zoo. :)
A lot of the photos below we taken at iso 3200. Some were two stops underexposed at iso 3200 and recovered quite nicely. I've tried to take similar photos in the past, years ago with my d70 and more recently with my e-p2 and the photos were hopelessly noisy and unusable. The x-pro1 lets me go where no camera (of mine) has gone before....successfully.
I had a great time and I really love the camera and the results it delivers.

@CopperB: nice photo. This one and in your site as well! How do you compare the result from your x-pro1 and the s5pro?
Just curious, of course I know they are two different world.

Great shot, love what you've done with the camera so far.
Man...wish I had had an X-Pro1 when I lived in Cambridge! Instead I had a Contax 139, and relied on Jessops film and processing.
I'm actually out with my X-Pro1 for a first 'proper' shoot today. Had quite a few misses with the AF so far. Big test will be a big walk home this evening, testing it out in the dusk.

Gosh...there are some stunning shots in this thread already. Gotta get shooting...
A few others shot this morning around 9am, downtown Lausanne. Dull, rainy weather as usual, unpleasant temperatures far below average.

So it's Memorial Day weekend here in the USA and there are a lot of local carnivals around with amusements and concessions. I decided to see if I could stress this camera a bit by going out after dark. All of these were taken handheld with the a Fuji X-Pro 1 and the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 lens. I used aperture priority and set the ISO to Auto 6400. Yes handheld, just tucked in the elbows and took a deep breath. For the most part they look pretty good, the noise is quite acceptable, and I could print these easily at 8x12. Like a lot of folks I'm waiting on Lightroom to get updated so these are jpeg's SOOC. I think they came out pretty good but I've got one that I'm holding back on to use for the current round of the RFF Postcard Project (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119031&highlight=postcard) that is really excellent.

Thanks, folks. Finally feel that I'm getting into this camera's operational space. It has a learning curve for sure. Preloading all of the custom settings and relying on them rather than fine-grained ISO control (RFF'r irq506 provided invaluable guidance here) was a breakthrough.

Normally my genre is street and documentation, but at the moment I live on the country side and I had to change my photo subjects...
The lens was a Canon FD 300mm 4.

After the sad death of my M8 sensor I found myself in possession of a Fuji X-Pro1/18mm & 35mm lenses and a Kipon M adapter. I have posted some shots that have been edited in LR4. I must say, it's a rather nice camera.

Everything is processed through Lightroom. To get the best possible image I need to nail the exposure. I have a bunch of presets I've developed that make it a bit quicker but each shot needs some TLC.
Thanks for asking.

Had a quick wander with the camera tonight, trying to get a feel for it and the 35mm before I decide whether to buy the 18mm or 60mm to accompany it.
First was really just a test of f1.4 on the lens and the depth of field but I prefer it in B&W, converted in Silver Efex Pro 2

Chris- I have not heard good things about the 60mm Macro so I went with the 18mm f2 and have to say that I use it more than the 35mm now. I also got a Kipon M adapter and I used my Leica fit lenses with it too. I have not tried the 60mm macro to be fair but I know someone who 'HAD' it and was so disappointed by focus speed, accuracy, and overall image quality, he said it missed focus many times, maybe he got a bad copy?... I would say, if you are not going to use it AS a macro then opt for a Voigtlander 50mm and an adapter, similar price, better performance.

Thanks mate, I've heard mixed reports about the 60mm, mainly saying that the IQ is outstanding but focusing is a bit mince.
I've got a Canon FD 50 lens which I've had on a m4/3 body so will pickup an adaptor for that and give it a go, I don't use longer lengths a lot anyway but I like to have the option!
Loving the 35mm and will be ordering the 18mm tonight from Amazon, at least if I don't like it for any reason I can return to Amazon,
Great shots Patti.

XPro works great with my el cheapo Voigtlander lenses used in conjunction with Fuji M-Mount Adapter. I used to use an M8 and the X-Pro's IQ is FAR superior IMO. I would say hands down, I would take JPEG quality X-Pro files vs. RAW files from the M8. I never used another type of adapter so I can't help you with that question. The ultrawides sometimes do have issues with color vignetting, but lesser so than the M8.
JPEG IQ is freakishly good... better than my 5DII and certainly better than M8

really, thats such great information, thank you so much. tbh ive just read so much about how the xpro yields poor IQ with RF lenses, and then i just came off a thread here showing, at least to my eye, very detail muddled shots using the cv 15mm, i was thinking i should cross the xpro off my list as a digi vehicle for my RF lenses. maybe theres hope yet! the fact that you think the files are better than with the RF optimized M8 is high praise. thanks again.

A few minutes later...
I've been shooting with the X-Pro1 since April and started posting a pic a day (http://jerphotography.tumblr.com/) in May. Almost all the pics are with the X-Pro1 except for a few at the very beginning and one M8 shot from '09. I use the Fuji 18 & 35 most of the time but have also used Contax SLR lenses (50 1.4 & 85 1.4) as well as a Nikon AIS 200 4 and few with a Voigtlander 50 1.1.
At first I converted a lot of pictures to B&W but once the Lightroom update came out I shifted more to color.

Hi all, sort of forgot about this board after selling off the last of my film gear, but happy to see some XPro-1 users! Been shooting with mine for for six months or so, love it. Here are some recent favorites, I'd be happy to post more if there is interest. (All with the XF 35mm). Cheers!

Last week's forest fires, approximately seven miles from home:

During this last weekend, it was nice to get away from the smoke and go to where the water was cool and the air was clear.

There's something primeval and intense about forest fires. Great photos!
