Diafine B in Fix

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I posted here - I've been moving and travelling. More recently I've been developing (Diafine is quite hard to acquire here in the UK), and just got done developing about 40 rolls from the last few months.

On the last two rolls I processed, I accidentally poured the Diafine B back into the fixer bottle (serves me right for trying to outsmart myself by having the next bottle I needed ready to go, with a funnel in place). I am planning to mix a new batch of fixer later this week and I'm more annoyed at the loss of 600 ml of solution B. However, I was curious as to how much of a difference that amount of B would make in 3.8L (1 US gallon) of fix.

I am just guessing, but perhaps the b solution will expire quicker than it would have normally. My thought is that you should be good to go for a while.

I measured the pH of 'B' at 10.1. Try kodalk (sodium metaborate) as a substitute. Google for borax and sodium hydroxide mix to give the equivalent which Pat Gainer has posted in the past.

It will still fix. There are fixers with pH over a wide range from rather acidic to rather alkaline. Your fixer is now (assuming that it was ordinary "black and white" fixer which is somewhat acid) a little less acidic, and a bit diluted. But it will still fix film fine.
