I still think this camera will have the same problem as the X10 with white disc blooming on the exr sensor, something the most recent firmware update was supposed to solve, but didn't. This camera will have the same exr engine. Too bad the pictures weren't posted in a larger format, but the reflection in the water makes me very suspicious:

I can't believe the sun reflecting off of water makes for white highlights!
That looks perfectly normal for any camera, digital or film.

So is the XP1 not supposed to show a white disc when a circular specular highlight is over exposed?

What do you expect to see?

What do you define as blooming?

How do you define the difference between blooming any an overexposed region?

Do you have examples from your photos where circular specular hightlight are accurately portrayed?

jippie - it is not the same EXR engine. They are totally different animals. Do your homework before you shoot off your mouth. The only thing common between the two camera's is that Fuji liked to use EXR for both.

It appears you are exhibiting the same jealousy that many others are displaying. Presumably there is resentment that this camera is garnering such interest and it just isn't your thing.

No I'm not jealous, I was actually planning on getting one :) But I fear the camera will also be susceptible to the phenemon shown here and that Fuji still not addressed:

The picture format is really small, but I do suspect that the white disc blooming will be the same problem on this camera as it is on the X10: big white discs when exposed the bright points, and that firmware updates will not solve it:

Show us an example of an X1 photo where what you describe is actually happening, and we may pay attention. But please don't just make things up. It doesn't help anyone, including you.

Seriously blown highlights from the set illumination obviously. Nothing like orbs. Orbs are perfectly round with a very odd black outline. The X10 and XPro1 are both branded Fujifilm, but the sensors are entirely different, probably not even manufactured by the same vendor.

There are more and more x-pro1's in the wild now, and flickr is starting to get some examples. To me, looks like the 35mm f1.4 is superb, the 18mm f2 is excellent, and the dynamic range, noise, performance and color out of the camera are seriously great.

^--- what Gavin said -- exactly. And the impressive thing about that photo is *not* the specular highlight on the fender. It's the remarkable suppression of veiling flare with that huge light source in the frame.
