The B&H site shows March 20th as well.
Henrys' in Canada say sometime in March.
Fujifilm stated at CES that they would ship by the end of February. I thought that this was to consumers. I guess that either they decided to wait in order to fill more of the initial orders and to avoid the EBay train wreck, or this is a factory ship date to the distribution chain.

Another month of waiting. Ugh.

Another month of waiting. Ugh.
My sentiments exactly.
After CES, they had said it would ship in Japan on February 18th, so I was hoping that we would see them in the US by the end of February.
I played with one yesterday. It is very light and plasticy and looks big. The lenses aren't small either especially with the hoods on. Hoods are cool though. Fuji rep will be dropping the set off to my local shop and hopefully I can have if for an hour next week. He indicated that will be on shelves late next month.

Any further impressions on build quality?

Well, the lens is a f/1.4, so I don't expect it to be small.
Regarding the build quality: Before I got my Bessa R3a, a lot of people here derided the build quality. However, I've thought it to be pretty good. It's obviously not a Leica, but it's much better than typical cameras of today.
Where would you put it on this scale. (just my own, feel free to argue)
0 - Holga
1 - Disposable
2 -
3 - Bessa L
4 - Entry level DSLR
5 -
6 - Sony Alpha
7 - Bessa R3a, Nikon D700
8 - XPan
9 - Zeiss Ikon
10- Leica MP
How would you compare the quality to your XPan? I imagine similar, since they are both made by Fuji
I didnt think it was anywhere near build quality of the Xpan. My X100 has a nicer feel to it as well. But that could be me, love the tactile feel of my M9 and that is probably the unfair filter my brain is applying.

Thanks, I wish we heard more real world reports prior to the X100 epic.... you saved another pre-order so even the zealots should be thanking you!
Patience grasshopper.
Looks like it is out for San Diego. Will it be in for Toronto ? Likely neither.

Hi
I missed a call "regarding the camera you order." arghh :bang: their Website shows the lenses (35mm & 60mm) are due in stock February but the body due mid March. So is it the lenses or the body:confused:
So now I've to wait till they open at 9am here in England but what do I do if it is lenses only use them as paper weights till mid March?

Is the aperture control manual like the X100?
Hi
The phone call I missed was only to check/confirm my order as they had put up pre-order without fixed price. So I've confirmed my order and should have
my order "in three weeks" which puts it where I thought it would be Mid March.

Where are you located?
(please say Canada :D:D:D )
The news of the Xpro release in April for Canada with only 10 cameras for the whole country was a bit disheartening.

B&H just updated their "Expected Availability (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/839135-REG/Fujifilm_162255391_X_Pro_1_Digital_Camera.html)" to March 7!
I emailed precision to cancel my pre-order.

This is bogus. End of March.
Seems like there is no shortage in Japan. Does this mean that people who bought to sell will have to discount it? Maybe it will be like X100. No shortage at first..

How is the pre-orders btw? Long line? Did you hear anything from Fuji?
I'm very excited about this camera. I have one pre ordered at Precision, but I'm mainly a 35mm lens guy and there isn't one available for it yet. So......any word on the M mount adapter?
Thanks

The pre-order line has been pretty much the same for the last few weeks, it's a nice wait but we expect to be able to fulfill all orders within a month or two. Really just depends on how Fuji ships and how many we get at a time. No official word from them, but last we heard from that end of the line is the end of this month. I don't know about this mid-March stuff everyone's tossing around, but they could be right. It's anyone's guess at this point.

Why do you say that?
B&H will be filling their first in line pre-orders at that time. Anyone on that list will be waiting a while, as they are in the thousands on their waitlist. I don't think anyone besides Fuji knows what the release date is at this time. B&H can claim whatever expected availability they want, because they really can't say for sure.

Good to hear. Still haven't heard any one getting shipments in the US. I did order my M adapter, which will take a long long time to get here.

28th or different date now?
I assume this all is coming via one boat, leaving Japan, dropping shipments off in Asia, then Europe and the UK, then cross the Atlantic to USA, based on the schedules of arrival? :}

Just talked to Adorama customer service and they said that Fuji still isn't even giving them an estimated delivery time.
I find it hard to imagine that they will make even make the B&H's March 28th date
It takes 8 days for a cargo ship to cross the Atlantic, so if a ship laden with X Pro 1s is leaving Felixstowe today, Fuji should know if it will be in Elizabeth, NJ by March 28th.
Ya.. I figured the date it hits shelves in North America would be sometime mid-late April. This was just my "thumb in the air" method based on Fuji's last "big thing" (the X100) . I'm not surprised really....

Believe me, there will be a thread once they hit the shore in the US. On the Fuji X forum last year someone knew that the boat had just hit shore with the X100s and made a post. I figured it was BS, but then I got my camera a few days later or something like that.

It arrived here in Oslo today! They messaged me from the store and said that my order was ready to be picked up. I was there downtown within the half hour. I also got the 35mm and the fastest memory card they had.
Looks great so far. Haven't really tried much besides manual reading and menu navigation. Put my new Gordy strap on it and just fondled it. Such a beautiful camera! Tomorrow it will come outside with me. :)

Jeez, a few more weeks.
I don't see why Fuji doesn't go to its largest market. They have cameras sitting on the shelves in Japan and Norway, with sales to be made in the US? Even two months of lag is real money when you consider interest on loans.
Meanwhile Leica is poised to launch a camera soon, and if they announce before Fuji ships, some people may change their minds, cancel their pre-orders and wait for the Leica.

Similar situation to Sony and its NEX-7. I wonder how many sales it lost by the huge delay between announcement(s) and actual delivery?

Not similar I think. Isn't the NEX-7 delayed by the tragic flooding in Thailand?

Yes, it seems that the boat (one boat, multiple boats, I have no clue) is going in sequencial order from East to West. Since Italy and France have them, I would think the cameras will be in the US in about a week.
I guess it´s only one ship. Wouldn´t it make sense to have one sail straight from Japan to the Americas if there were several?

I'm starting to get a bit more pessamistic. I think a ship laden with Fuji gear left Japan in mid-late Feb headed West, but Europe is the end of the line for that ship.
Gear being produced in March and April in Japan is being queued for North America and will head on a ship east to California. That trip is 11 days, plus then transit to various US stores.
On Jan 26, Fuji announced it would be available in Japan on Feb 18th, so that was 3 1/2 weeks notice. The US market hasn't received that announcement. Now add in additional transit time. I think it'll be about 5-6 weeks before we see it in the US.
jsrockit
03-21-2012, 05:41
AND remember, once the cameras hit land they go to Fuji first and then to each camera store... we're probably closer to two weeks depending on where you live and ordered from. 5-6 weeks sounds extremely pesimistic to me.

Haha. Just waiting for my camera like the rest of you...
Maybe if we were all better at math we'd be able to guess arrival time better! I actually think I remember this from my High School ACTs:
"If a boat filled to capacity leaves Japan on x date, stops in country v, unloads 1/5 of it's cargo, stops in countries w, x and y doing the same, how long will it take to reach country z taking into account the diminishing cargo at each stop?"
Margrave
I would probably need to double check, but here in Helsinki it shows it's already available:

Not sure. They only offered Xpresspost shipping. Their website says "Guaranteed delivery times of 2 and 3 days between major centres in Canada and the U.S.A."
I may get it at the same time as I would have gotten the order from the US given the longer delivery, but I doubt it will get it later. At least I have reasonable certainity I'll have it by Easter.
I had called Adorama this morning and they "still hadn't heard anything" and "didn't know whether they would have them before Adorama closed for 10 days for Passover" (I would choose local options to support local camera stores, but saving 8.25% tax on such a large order is too much)
Of course, Murphy's law might apply here. If I wait, then delivery in the US drags out. Now that I ordered from Canada, they appear in the US tomorrow. (Maybe I'll leave the Adorama order and return whoever gets here last!)

Just ordered mine w/ the 35mm from Henry's. Does anybody with experience know how long shipping typically takes from Canada (I'm in Colorado, if that helps)? :o They say they ship U.S. Express. Had mine on pre-order from B&H since early February, but I have a trip in two weeks, and can't really risk getting stuck behind the closure they have coming up. Thanks...
Got mine in Australia yesterday
It looks like US is the last market to get stock? Why is that

You may have been stuck behind a closure, but now you have a Canadian model. I'm glad you got your hands on an X-Pro1, I'm a bit jealous really, :D but you really don't want to deal with any warranty issues with an international purchase.
March the 20th was my birthday and nothing arrived in the mail from Fuji Australia ... I think they forgot! :p

This is true, but what fun is life without a little gambling? :D Besides, being stuck behind a closure and only having a P&S for this vacation just isn't an option. I'll take the risk and hope my run of good luck with purchases continues (I've never had to utilize a warranty).

I had to contemplate this scenario when I bought a new Zeiss Ikon from Matsuiyastore in Japan. When I brough up a possible warranty issue he said provided I was comfortable returning the camera to him he would deal with any warranty problems that may arise. Though I supect not all sellers would be quite so helpful.
At the time a new Ikon was $1300 AU in Japan and up around two grand here .... so I took the gamble!

The Canadian model will be very polite and friendly.
Servicing a warranty through Canada is much easier than Hong Kong although both are "international."
It stinks that Fuji has done such a poor job commmunicating. I would have stuck with my US preorder if I had some certainty that it was coming this week. I dont think B&H's March 28th date will hold, nor is there much hope for this week if Adorama hadnt heard anything as of today. What is frustrating is that there is available stock elsewhere in the world, but customers impatiently waiting in the US.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter to Fuji. They are making money if someone buys a Canadian version or a US version. It's unfortunate for US dealers when people go outside their home market, though.

it never bothered me, I've had to ship two Canon cameras back to the US for warranty issues and it all went well. Actually at times it felt better than dealing with Canon Australia to be honest. As long as the vendor has earned my confidence I dont care where he and the warranty are located.

I feel the same way. I sold off most of my old gear in advance of moving to the X-Pro1 (in retrospect, maybe not the best move), because I was confident the order would be met before my trip. But, with so little communication, I just can't take the risk. I've had mine pre-ordered through B&H for quite sometime...enough to see the expected availability date bounce from March 20-March 8- March 28. Now, on the eve of that date, there's still no word, so I just decided to go out and find one instead of waiting for them to show up here.
Now, I'll just wait impatiently for the postal system to get it to me. :D

Mee too. I've been checking the tracking page several times. I would have paid for faster delivery but there was no other option. I see that it is supposed to be 2 days from the processing facility to a major city, so add a day on either end, and it could take 4 days.
I hope to get it Friday, but I should have it early next week. (I bought Monday afternoon and it shipped Tuesday morning). I don't have a trip, but will be taking a lot of photos over the Easter weekend, so I should have it by then. (we lack a 'knock on wood' emoticon)

Not sure how bad Fuji's job communicating has been. All the major sites have had the same date for weeks now, except for B&H's temporary bounce.
They may not have been great on the dealer end, but there hasn't been any reason for Americans to think it was coming weeks early or not coming at all.
Steve Huff site .. He got his xp1 from Fuji USA today. He did an unboxing and first look video. These are not the pre-release stuff. If Fuji USA is shipping out to evaluators, I would hope that Amazon, b&h, etc should be seeing the first ships from Fuji soon.

Well, B&H has been sitting on March 28 for a few weeks now, and as of today, they have no word of when it will be in. Adorama has heard nothing. So, the communication from Fuji and their reps appears to have been "not so good".
It's not a big deal really...they have stated "end of March" for quite some time, and that may very well still be met. If I wasn't in a hurry to have one in hand for personal reasons, I wouldn't be sweating it. But, with so little info out there, and retailers shutting down for periods of time coming up, I just decided it wasn't worth the hand wringing...so I went to Canada. :)

Your situation is almost identical to mine (except I leave for my trip in THREE weeks ;)). B&H has the March 28th date, but no other major retailer has posted date and just say they have no idea.
I think for each person the ability to wait is different. I image some other posters are thinking "why are these guys so impatient?".
If you don't have a trip coming up or if you already have an X100 or a M9, then it may not be that bad. I've only been shooting film, but finding time to develop/scan has been very difficult since baby #2 arrived in December that I'm shooting less because of it.

We still have not heard anything from Fuji. I think we are just going to get a big surprise from UPS eventually, without any kind of forewarning. Unfortunately we have not gotten our daily delivery as of yet. The moment they come in I will be letting people know that their camera is here and ready for completion of the order. I will also be letting everyone know the deluge has started on our pre-order thread when they come in. End of the month was the ship from Fuji date. I suppose some dealers close to the Fuji warehouse *might* be able to get them out for this weekend. But the buyer would need an overnight delivery in any case...unless the customer is local to the store, so they can walk in and pick it up. So in that case yes, end of month.
Vistek notified me on the 23rd but I couldn't get into TO over the w/e. They shipped it Monday and I had it Tues late afternoon. I'd only ordered it a week before it arrived. :0)

You're right up there with us lowly dealers. Fuji hasn't said anything solid about this camera since day one, so it was anyone's guess as to when it would happen.
Well I haven't had any difficulty getting word direct from Fuji. All I did was ask... :)
And now we have this tweet from Brandon Remler (Fuji employee) confirming previous posts:
brandon remler @brandonremler
Fujifilm X-Pro1 is en route to all dealers who had orders in. Arrival time should be over the next couple days - then out to the customers.

You lucky son of a gun! Is it a beaut or what?
It is really nice so far. I am just starting to get a feel for it, but really cool. ISO 6400 performance is crazy good (with no noise reduction either).
I might not get much work done the rest of the day.
X-pro1 in my hand! Charging the battery now. Sooo excited!
Fuji indicates that release is April 4th. Dealers supposed to get either on Monday or Tuesday. Some may get it tomorrow. They are slowly shipping them out starting today. Not all dealers will get them in first shipment.
BH was correct in a way.
I called Fuji. Navigated through maze of phone and convincing.

I was just trying to illustrate that there is no such thing as "lowly" customers, just individuals who seem to be more privy to information than the rest of us.
It's not like they are as tight-lipped as the CIA, they just haven't been extremely helpful in disseminating reliable info for scheduled releases and launches.
We got word from Fuji earlier this week that the cameras "should be shipping this week." But with Fuji's history with this camera and keeping on schedule with their intended dates...

I don't have a MBA and I've avoided working in a corporate environment - but it feels like Business 101 in the Apple era to set a hard release date to build interest and then meet that date.
Throw in some direct communication between Fuji international, Fuji USA and big accounts for good measure.

You could say the opposite. Give an ambiguous release date and build chatter online / drama.

A US Company and a Japanese Company... two totally different cultures. Neither right or wrong.
Tough comparison with Apple also as they know they need to meet a much much higher number of units in those first days and weeks and to be off could mean about a half billion dollar/day oops. They sold about 750k ipads/day at release.
Betcha if Fuji thought they would move that many units, they would make a big splash re: release date also.
(As a side note, thanks to everyone on this forum for all the information I've been soaking up while lurking, and for making me not feel like a junkie as I refresh the forum every second or so looking for a "Cameras are here" post.)

What other dates have they missed? To my knowledge Fuji has not disseminated any information other than 'USA at the end of March' and it appears they are keeping to that date.
Now if Fuji did it like Apple, they'd be shipping to the stores now, they'd allow enough time for every dealer across the country to receive them, and then they'd all be for sale at 8am next Friday. :)

And as far as we know, child labor, unpaid overtime, 16 hour days, etc. are not part of the production process for the made-in-Japan XP1. No doubt Fuji isn't a charity organization, either.

Fit with your Kipon on body?
It fits nice and tight. Focus is similar to a manual SLR. It'll take a little getting used to do it quickly, but so did traditional rangefinder focusing. Here it is with the Summicron 50/2 DR (yeah I can mount this lens on this camera!)

Yeah, I just used the EVF to focus, but it was only in the "normal" focusing range. I found it reasonably easy. If you press the wheel, it'll magnify the EVF, so you can focus in on a point. I think with a little practice it'll be as quick as an optical RF.

This is pretty funny. I just checked Amazon's listing of the Xpro1 to see if they have any news of delivery dates. They don't.
But what's funny is that they don't list the price - noting that they can't publish the price because it is lower than the MSRP. You have to put the camera in your shopping cart to see the price.
But how much lower is it?
Fuji's MSRP: $1,699.95
Amazon's cut-rate deal: $1,699.00
You save 95 cents.
Wow. 95 cents on a $1,700 purchase.
Are you going to jump back in and try to find one?
I am considering that now. Hopefully there are enough inventory.
I sold off my cursed MPs and trying to get rid of 35 fle.
Funny I got a mysterious ups ship notification. It's 3 lb to be delivered by the 5th. I am thinking if it's a preorder I didn't cancel....

Well, the postman had a surprise for me this morning! I had ordered the X-Pro from Henry's on Monday and I was pleasantly surprised to see it arrive before the weekend. Very fast shipping from Ontario to Montana.
The battery is charging as I type and a cursory examination of the camera shows that it appears to be well made and thoughtfully designed. The only short term problem that I have is that I need to work on my taxes this weekend!:bang:

Ya know.. more so than the fact that I'm impressed with Henry's (I haven't really bought from them in years - but that's only because I have contacts at my local independent shop) I'm even more impressed with the fact that Canada Post and USPS seems to have their "act" together in getting these items out to the folks within a week.. Well folks, bad news. Another day has rolled around without a shipment in from our Fuji distributor, which more than likely means a delivery beginning of next week. Sorry for the bad news, but wanted you folks to know first hand.

Fuji USA will honor Canadian warranty service up to one year. Since Canadian warranty is two years, you can have it serviced after first year via Canada by shipping it in.

Yeah I was surprised that you could enter the Canada Post tracking number into the USPS site after it arrived in the US, and continue to follow the package in the US.
It left Jamaica (Queens) sorting facility on Wednesday at 5 pm and I got it in Texas at 11am. This partially makes up for the USPS losing my 2010 Easter photos of my baby girl, which taken on Kodachrome and shipped to Dwayne's.

It is strange. At the risk of sounding like a impatient fool, it just seems weird that Fujifilm chooses to deliver to the US later than everyone else. I would have thought we were a major portion of its pre-orders. On the other side of the coin, what is the rush really? They know they have a desirable camera and they know most will wait anyway.

I could also supply these cameras from Japan if anyone doesn't want to wait. Current prices are 135000 for the body, and 49000 yen for each lens. Unfortunately, the currency exchange rate is not very favorable right now, converting to dollars and adding Paypal fees and shipping/handling would make it a bit expensive. I have sold and shipped a few hundred cameras from Japan with very few issues, and many have found homes with RFF members. EMS shipping usually takes three days from posting to delivery.

Instead, I walked out with a body, the 35mm and a spare battery. I passed on the 18 and now will hold out hopes for the 60mm. I do know they had some stock left if anyone is in NYC.
