No Blockbusters left in our part of the world. All are closing so I stopped by and picked up a copy of The Bang Bang Club for like $12.

A real keeper.:D

Funny you should mention this ... I have not seen it, but it is starting right now on one of my movie channels on the satellite. :D

Interesting ... never heard that before.

I have it on DVD, and a very well-worn copy of the book on my shelf - more a biography of Greg Marinovich than a novel I'd say, but that's pedantic squabbling on my part :)
Does the movie deviate from the book greatly? I know there will be some minor things changed for the sake of cinema (Like only Marinovich's character looking accurate, what a surprise considering he supervised the production :D), but for the most part is it true to the book?

Slightly off topic, I highly recommend the book, and if you can find a copy, The Invisible Line, the posthumous book about Ken Oosterbroek

Saw the film a few months ago, pretty average, not terrible.

Although I have not seen it, I hear "pecker" is a good movie about the photography business.

More about the photography art world I would say, but a funny movie. Basically the antithesis of the bang bang club...which is kind of disturbing at times.

Yeah, true stories rarely are "the best movies" with great endings and such.

A movie is only as good as the actors and the director.
Saw alot of beautifully shot movies with less that satisfactory acting in my life.
Thats all

For those in the 'states, The Bang Bang Club is available streaming on Netflix.
The film is gritty enough to portray how nasty a job photojournalism can be.

Pretty good movie. Favorite quote: "We aren't group f/64. Our **** moves."

I lived in southern Africa during the period shown. A very authentic portrayal.

I wrote a movie review on it for my newspaper back when it came out, when nobody else had any ideas on what to fill the space with.

Just added to my Netflix instant queue - if it's bad, at least it's not costing me anything.

Yeah, well, it was nothing remarkable as a movie, watched it the other day, but always interesting to see anything depicting life in South Africa.
